Scope and content
Lantern slide, glass B&W slide in wood frame. Image framed in black and gold. Sticker on glass handwritten in pencil "Devils Bridge" and perhaps the word "Switzerland." In print "E. & H. T. Anthony & Co. New York." Image of two bridges spanning a river, in a canyon. Research showed that it is the Devil's bridge of St. Gotthard's Pass in Switzerland. It is recorded that the first bridge was destroyed by a flood in 1888, and the second bridge was built in 1826 and third one in 1958. This image shows two bridges, the original and the second which is why the slide is date ca. 1826-1888.
