History

Born in Toronto, Canada, David Dixon trained at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute and graduated in 1993. Dixon apprenticed with designer Alfred Sung, and in 1995, established the David Dixon label. Starting out at the Toronto Fashion Incubator, he began wholesaling and manufacturing his line and in 1999, David left the incubator to his own design and production studio based in Toronto. David Dixon remains affiliated with the Incubator acting as its President and acts as mentor to designers.
He has received numerous awards including the Saga International Scholarship in Copenhagen, Denmark (2000-2001); the Matinee Fashion Foundation Grant (1998-2002); City of Toronto New Designer of the Year (1996); Yorkdale New Designer of the Year (1995); and the Fur Council of Canada bronze award (1998). David also received acclaim in his career at Ryerson by placing as second runner up in the Smirnoff International Young Designer Competition and the Moore Pearsal Leather Competition.
