Edward Parker's memoirs

File consists of written reminiscences of Edward (Ed) Parker, Director of Ryerson's Journalism, Advertising and Printing Management Program (1948-1955). These accounts were written in periodic installments for the Ryerson Archives. They contain numerous anecdotes and reminiscences of general acquaintances, employers, colleagues, newspaper people, and actors whom Parker met and befriended during his career. Parker offers interesting observations of Howard Kerr, Ryerson's founding principal. This file contains the following memoirs:

Parks Association of Metropolitan Toronto

File contains records relating to park associations in Toronto, Ontario, and New York. It would appear Bascom St. John was involved with this cause in Toronto and wrote editorials.

Technical Education in Britain

File contains a copy of the white paper "Better Opportunities in Technical Education" presented to Parliament in the United Kingdom by the Minister of Education by command of Her Majesty in January of 1961.
The paper proposes the reorganization of the system of courses for technicians, craftsmen, and operatives in technical colleges in England and Wales.

Included in the file are: memos; part I of the report of the Advisory Council of the Metropolitan School Board regarding the East York Board of Educations application to renovate East York Collegiate as part of the Federal-Provincial Technical Assistance program; a report on an interview with Federal Minister of Labour Dr. G. V. Haythorne and his assistant G. G. Cushing, Feb. 27, 1964; and a survey of vocational education and training 1959-1960 by the Dominion Bureau of Statistics - Education Division - Vocational Education section.

Scitec Conference 1981 - Ontario Science Centre

File created and maintained by Helmut Burkhardt in his role as Chairman of the program committee for the 1981 SCITEC conference. The SCITEC (The Association of the Scientific Engineering and Technological Community of Canada) annual general meeting and conference was held at the Ontario Science Centre November 8, 9, 10, 1981. The conferences theme was "Education for Survival and Prosperity".
The file contains correspondence, conference programs, new releases and other records related to the SCITEC conference.

Energy and Lifestyle - Shaping the Future conference

File created and maintained by Helmut Burkhardt. The conference, sponsored by the Forum of Toronto Arts Productions and ATEED Centre for Environmental Communities, was proposed to have been held October 21 - 22, 1978 at the St. Lawrence Centre.

File contains records related to the formation of the Ryerson Energy Centre in 1976. Included are planning documents, correspondence, and meeting minutes. Also included is a copy of the 2nd edition of the Centre's newsletter.

Presentation to Porter Commission, 1977

The Royal Commission on Electric Power Planning was chaired by Dr. Arthur Porter and was referred to as the Porter Commission. An interim report on nuclear power in Ontario titled "A Race Against Time" was published in 1978.
The file includes a copy of a part of a submission authored by Helmut Burkhardt and R. Szmidt for the commission, a page and folder of handwritten notes, and an unrelated letter from the University of Regina regarding the formation of their Energy Research Unit.
