Military tour of duty album

Red cover embossed with foreign letters in gold; bound with yellow and black string. Notations in white ink and drawing on pages in yellow pencil. Black pages with thin protective paper bound between pages. Some photographs lose or partially loose.

Additional materials consist of stamps, envelopes, menus, business cards, receipts, advertisements, postcards, newspaper clippings, foreign [paper] currency; includes elements from British Red Cross Society, International Photo Supply Co., Kodak film, and a menu and program from Old Alleynians Annual Dinner containing multiple signatures on the back.

Sites and locations include Whitfield Barracks, The Bank of China in H.K., The Elinor, Hong Kong Bisley, the Sai King Patrol; countries include Singapore, Hong Kong, Repulse Bay,

England album

Leather cover embossed with flowers, metal clasp; one prong on clasp [front cover side] slightly loose. Some flower borders within. Gilt edge to pages. No handwritten notations.

Photo studios include J.Brown, Newport Salop; W. W. Winter Art Photography, Derby.

Themes include portraits, early bicycles, boats and carriages.

Transiberia album

Green cloth binding with "photos" embossed in black on the cover; number "7" stamped in blue. Grey pages with dark green border around photos. Notations in black ink. Photographs are mounted onto a card betwen two additional pieces of paper; the outside pieces of paper have windows cut to fit around the photographs.

No loose photographs however several photographs are becoming loose and peeling out of their windows. Many photographs are significantly faded and yellowing has occurred.

Locations include Scheveningen, Antwerpen, Kharbin, Kayota (Korea), Seoul, Kobe.

Themes include: street views, architecture, Transiberian railroads, landscapes and waterscapes.

Dates include September - December, 1912; 1-12 Januari, 1913; Februari, 1913.

For miscellaneous scraps

Blue cover embossed with gold lettering "For Miscellaneous Scraps" and gold and black decorative embossing. Gold embossing on spine reads "Scraps". Some handwritten notations in black ink. Mix of blue and white pages.

Includes newspaper clippings, photographic reproductions cut-out from publications, photographs, engravure reproductions from newspapers or journals. One or two loose items.
Elements are glued onto pages. Majority of pages are blank.

Social album

Brown paper cover, bound with brown string, embossed with word "photographs" in gold. Cover flaking. Black pages.

Themes include family and social snapshots. Many photographs are loose. Also includes some loose postcards. Some loose photographs and postcards have notations or messages with dates on their verso. Also contains a loose newspaper clipping, feature article titled: "A Half Forgotten Legend of the Genesee: How an Indian maid and her French lover leaped to their death in River's Bosom".

Dates include: January 1949, December 1952.

Southsea album

Black cover bound with black string; "Photographs" embossed in gold. Notations in white and gold ink on black pages.

Sites include: Clarence Pier, the War Memorial, Portsmouth Town Hall, Town Hall Square, Southampton Waters, Ryde Harbour, Seaview at the Isle of Wight, the English Channel.

California and Utah album

Leather edged cover, detached binding. Contains photographs and pressed flowers. Lengthy notations in black ink. More of a journal with photographs. Vast majority of pages are blank.

Themes of photographs include early trains and railways, portraits, scenic views.

Includes some loose photographs and pressed flowers; also includes printed photographic reproductions from journals adhered to pages;

California album

No cover, no binding. Black pages. Edges of pages flaking, torn and falling apart. Handle with care. Photographs mounted using black photo corners. Some loose photographs. Many photographs missing. No notations, no dates. Some photographs fading; some photographs show signs of damage - looks as if something spilled on them.

H.M.S. Superb Voyage album

Decorated blue cover with green pages. Photographs inserted into openings in pages. Handwritten notations in black ink. Some loose photographs; back indicate they were postcards.

Inside front cover: "Photographs taken from H.M.S. Superb during her voyage under sealed orders from Rosythe (Scotland) to take supreme command of the allied fleets in the Mediterranean and Near East, arrange the Armistice with Turkey and capture the German fleet in the Black Sea."

Green cloth and cardboard cover, with embossed gold letters. Spine and bindings intact. Black pages with various window openings per page. Photographs are mounted with glue behind windows.Several images have faded significantly. Some silver mirroring. Black paper is fading, top layer of page is separating.

Themes include family and group portraits, domestic animals.

South Africa-India album

Green cover with black edge and corners; spine and binding detached. Green end pages and brown pages throughout. Few handcoloured photographs; several photographs significantly yellowed.

Themes include landscapes, scenic views, snapshot portraits, carriages, coastal views, beach scenes, ships and boats, architectural photographs of popular sites, traditional or tribal dress, early car, military uniforms, weddings, horse-drawn carriages, elephant-back carriage.

Sites and locations include: Bay Esplanade, West Street, The Old Fort and Ocean Beach at Durban, South Africa; some places in Natal, South Africa.

South Africa horse album

Red cloth cover with embossed gold design. Watermark and stains on cover. White pages with two window openings per page.
Photographs are mostly taken in South Africa. Included are photographs of De Aar, which at the time was the second-most important railway junction in the country. Photographs are mostly of horses on polo fields, some of people playing polo, some of trains and people with horses. There are also photographs of military and military camps, and a photograph at Vry Staat Hotel.

WWI family album

Brown cloth cover with gold embossed letters- "Photographs." Black pages with photographs mounted with glue. Notation on photo borders with black ink. Sewn binding. Photographs are mostly family snapshots of people, sometimes with automobiles or in uniform from the Northcote family. Also included are images of golfing, bridges, fishing, horse riding, camping, farms, cattle, sheep, chicken coops, horse drawn sleigh, the beach, trees, houses, dogs, trains, children, biking, deer and wagons. Three newspaper articles are pasted in. One about the Northcote family (mother, six sons and two daughters) all serving in the war, one about Pte. Wm. Clements dying in battle, and one of Corporal Northcote being the first Royal Engineer to be awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal.

Item is a decorated hard cover album (CDV album). Closes with clasps. Album pages are beige with open slots for photographs. Hand-painted flowers frame the openings on every page. Gold trimmed. Contains tintypes and albumen cartes-de-visite.
