Student Services Human Resources

Series consists of vacancy / job postings and personnel papers of two student residences, Palin Hall (later Oakham House) and Bond House (later O'Keefe House).

Student residences employee file

File contains personnel records of employees who worked in the two on-campus student residences, Palin Hall (later Oakham House) and Bond House (later O'Keefe House). However, it primarily has records related to Raymond and Aurlie Wycik (Pappa and Mamma Wycik), who worked in Palin Hall running the tuck/snack shop and acting as dons.

Ryerson Hall and Quadrangle photographs

File contains two photographs. One shows the quadrangle from its south east corner looking north west. The other photograph is facing the "Ryerson Institute of Technology" sign at 50 Gould Street.

RCTV Files

During the summer of 1969, an agreement was reached between the president of SURPI and Ryerson for a community television service to be operated under the direction of a board comprised of five representatives. The RCTV Board (two students, two administrators and one faculty member) set all programming policies and an executive committee of two RCTV board members was responsible for programming approval on a week to week basis. RCTV ceased to operate when equipment became obsolete and funding stopped in the late 1970s.

Subseries consists of four file folders and committee minutes pertaining to Ryerson Community Television. The records are those of the Director of Student Services who served as Chair of the RCTV Board.

Future directions For CACUSS position paper

An extract from a CACUSS (Canadian Association of Colleges and University Student Services) position paper concerning their future development, articulating aspects of the future which may be relative to Ryerson. Ron Taber, Director of Student Services, and a member of CACUSS,sent copies of extract, with a covering memo, to the President,Vice-Presidents, Deans and Directors.

Guides for Students

The file contains guides for students welcoming them and available services for their first year at Ryerson.

Five Year Plan

File contains the records on the reaction to the Academic Planning document that was dated September 9, 1975.

Student Learning Support

This file consists of promotional records offering learning support services to both undergarduate and graduate students.

Within the department of Student Services is the team Student Learning Support, located in the Student Learning Centre building, centralizing learning assistance in the form of individual help, group sessions, and workshops for :

  • Writing Support
  • and a Test Centre

Orientation files

File contains orientation files including freshman orientation and registration guides; correspondence; chairmen listings; and a proposal for orientation.

Ryerson Theatre files

File contains Ryerson Theatre's files including a report on the studies of Ryerson student facilities, rate schedule, a report on the use of the theatre, and appendices.

Retention - The Student Experience seminar

In 1986 President Brian Segal established a Promotional Planning Group to help ensure that Ryerson retain its current enrolment share of a high school student pool that was expected to shrink by 20% during the next decade.The early work of the Promotional Planning Group included references to retention and the student experience on campus, but it was decided to focus more on the traditional student and specifically on the development of a promotional plan. Arnice Cadieux, a member of the Planning Group, attended a convention which focused on marketing and recruiting and Ron Taber, also a member of the Planning Group, attended one ofthe many sessions related to the topic of retention. It was decided to present their information, with the assistance of the Registrar, Jennifer Brunzell, at Ryerson's Senior Management Retreat, May 1986, in the form of a seminar 'Retention - The Student Experience'.

Student Activities Committee records

File consists of correspondence, plans, and reports from the student union's Blue and Gold Society regarding orientation and dances, primarily the location of dances in the gymnasium vs. the Great Hall.

Women's Affairs files

File originated in Student Affairs Office (named changed to Student Services in 1968). Materials created by the Student Affairs Committee on Ryerson Women. Included in the file is correspondence, preliminary report on the needs of women students, questionnaire sent to students and 2 copies of the results.

Student Services documentation files

File contains Student Services documentation files. It includes correspondence, position papers, letterheads, reports, brochures, surveys, flyers, information booklets, bookmarks, and newsletters.

CJRT files

This file contains CJRT files including correspondence, information and agendas for "The Confederation of Tomorrow Conference", and newsletter clippings.

Pub incident file

File contains supplementary reports, correspondence, statements, and apologies related to the pub incident of 30/31 January 1993. It also includes supplementary reports on a smoking incident on 22 February 1993.

Office name plate

File contains a metal name plate listing: Aboriginal Services, Access Centre, Appeals, Financial Aid, Information Services, Scholarship and Awards, Student Programs.

Interaction '79

File contains correspondence, a folder kit with brochures and pamphlets about various student services.

Student Housing study

Folder contains the Student Housing Preference Survey, a student housing analysis and miscellaneous correspondence regarding student housing.

Miscellaneous photographs

A collection of miscellaneous 4 x 6 colour prints. Some photos have been identified while others have been assigned a temporary subject until further information is available to confirm the event or individuals capturedin these photograhs.

The file consists of three copies each of years 2005 and 2006, promoting the campus facilities, services, and enjoyment to be had by first year students

Project-Funds Allocation Committee for Students (P-FACS) files

Project-Funds Allocation Committee for Students or P-FACS is administered by the Office of Student Community Life under Student Services. It consists fo student representatives from various interests at Ryerson to support, by application, student events. A portion of student fees supports the funds.

Plastic sword

The sword is a sample of those used in a Student Services sponsored event to host the world's largest sword fight during Orientation Week. Held in the Quad, participants were required to pass through one entry/exit point with turnstiles. Among the participants were President Sheldon Levy and Eggy. RSU students and a representative of Guinness World Record monitored participant exit. Ryerson broke the world record for the largest sword fight.

Preloaded 1GB USB drive

The USB preloaded with Program and Campus life information for new students. Stamped with The Ted Rogers School logo.

Orientation records

File contains brochures, booklets, postcards produced in conjunction with Ryerson's annual orientation week events.

329 Church Street architectural pieces

Series consists of two architectural pieces, a wood mantlepiece and a stained glass window, removed from 329 Church Street before its demolition to make way for Ryerson's Architecture Building.

Stained glass window

Stained glass window in green painted window frame. Glass largely yellow with purple and blue shape in centre and red and other coloured round spots overall.

Student Services - Board of Governors presentation materials

File contains materials gathered by Student Services for a presentation to the Board of Governors. Included are career centre stats, an organizational chart for Student Services, mission statement, reports about the Centre for Student Development and Counselling, Financial Aid and Awards, Career Centre, Health Centre, Office of the Director, Student Services, International Student Services, Athletics and Recreation, and Student Housing Services. Also in the file are brochures and applications - Student Housing, Career Centre, and the Recreation and Athletic Centre.
