RTA '73 2013 reunion photographic slides collection

This file contains a collection of 113 photographic slides compiled by RTA Class of 1973 Alumni and Video Lab Assistant at the Roger's Communication Centre (as of 2014) Sal Greco. The slides show various members of the Class of 1973 in their graduation year and in childhood.

RTA 1973 Class Reunion videos

This file contains a DVD containing still photographic images, videos, and a music file for the 1973 RTA class reunion held in October, 2013. Also on the disc is a video of 1986 reunion party. Salvatore (Sal) Greco was responsible for the creation of the disk and much of its content.

The project is also referred to as CHIMP (Children's Media Project).

First live Canadian television broadcast materials

Photograph, negative and press clippings of the first live television broadcast in Canada, as presented to an audience of over 300 members of the radio industry (including dealers) from the Toronto area. Entitled "This is the Fashion", the show was a collaborative effort between the schools of Electronics, Broadcasting and Fashion Design and was produced in the Ryerson boardroom and transmitted via coaxial cable to viewing screens in the Institute's auditorium. This special event was intended to promote not only television but the FM band (on which Ryerson's new radio station --CJRT-- was just starting to operate).

TV Cameras - Classroom Props

A TV camera made out of a cardboard box and a tin can. Prop was used in Bill Lawrence's (RTA '54 graduate, RTA faculty member 1980-1996 and TV personality) classes by his students as a means of helping them relax in front of a live TV camera. Bill Lawrence signed his name on the bottom of the base.

Television Camera Tubes

Two camera tubes of different sizes:

RG 102.51.01 - An Image Orthicon Tube (38cm high x 7cm base) from the early days of black and white video imaging technology. It came from one of the first two television cameras acquired by Ryerson in 1953 for the training of its Radio and Television Arts students. The tube was made by English Electric and the cameras by British Marconi. The tube was given to Elvino Sauro by pioneer Radio and Television Arts faculty member Andy Kufluk.

RG 102.51.02 - A Plumbicon Tube (21cm long x 3cm base) from one of the last tube cameras owned by Ryerson. This model was from a Sony DXC 1820-KA single tube colour video camera. Colour was obtained through a sophisticated and almost invisible striped filter on the face of the tube. It was eventually replaced by cameras equipped with solid state imaging devices called Charge Coupled Devices (CCD’s).

Videotapes: Student Television Lab Productions

Videotape productions written, acted and produced by 2nd and 3rd year RTA students as part of their course assignments. The collection includes three VHS videotapes and four 3/4" tapes. In some cases duplicates were made. Information about the productions is included with each video.

RTA Program Review and Evaluation

Documentation prepared for the academic element of the Program Evaluation Process for RTA. The material includes two submissions: 1. submitted to the Dean of Applied Arts, Vice-President Academic and the President; 2. submitted to the Academic Standards Committee of Academic Council (2 copies -- although both documents have the same date, they are not exactly the same. Because there is no evidence to indicate which of the two was the final submission, both copies have been kept. CBC $50 Million Extension Plan press conference

RYERSONIAN, February 15 article, photographs re. Press Conference held at Ryerson announcing the $50 million extension plan for CBC. The Secretary of State, Hugh Faulkner, addressed approximately 120 RTA students and members of the Toronto press. RTA Chair, John Twomey, was instrumental in arranging this event.

Theatre Arts - The Magazine of the Theatre

File contains "Theatre Arts" magazine. It was distributed to the Department Heads of Ryerson Institute of Technology (a distribution sheet is included). Included are 41 copies of the magazine from 1958-1962.
