Rogers Communications Centre

File contains photographs showing the evolution and creation of the Rogers Communications Centre. File includes photographs from the announcement by the Minister of Colleges and Universities that Ryerson would be getting a centre for Applied Communications and Computer Science; Fundraising dinner for the new building including Ted and Loretta Rogers donation of $2 million; the groundbreaking ceremony and reception; Architectural drawings and construction photographs; Grand opening ceremony and reception; and finally the donation from Storagetek.
Also in the file is a site plan of trees and an internal memo regarding the fundraising campaign.

University Information Fair: Ryerson Display

Ryerson's information booth at the University Information Fair held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre was assembled in sections: 7 colour photo panels, measuring 8' x 3' were shot and arranged to present a panoramic campus scene of the Victoria/Gould Sts. area. 2 black and white information panel/signs were also included.

Diplomas/Degrees/Certificates: Sample Boards

Two display boards, presented to the Board Of Governors, with samples of Ryerson certificates, diplomas and degrees. One board has samples of documents from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute and the other board presents samples of documents under the Ryerson Polytechnic University status.

Sheldon Levy installation

This file contains 3 copies of Program for Installation of the President and Vice-Chancellor, list of representatives of the university and community colleges joined the academic procession for Installation ceremony, 4 invitations, 3 posters, 1 ticket to the ceremony, and ceremony reservation reply card.

60th Anniversary Alumni Magazine Insert

The magazine insert - in the January mailing of the Alumni Magazine contains many photographs from the archives collections. Archives staff worked closely with Magazine staff - which included weeks of work finding and pulling photographs to be included in the print and online editions of the magazine and timeline.

Ryerson Campus Carnival 2003

Correspondence, posters, invoices etc created and maintained during the planning of the annual campus carnival. Also included are photographs taken during the actual event.

Board of Trade dinner

File contains photographs taken during the Young Professional Board of Trade dinner. They include photographs of speeches and group shots of members.

Bridge building

File contains photographs of Ryerson's annual Civil Engineering bridge building competition. Included are images of various bridges made from popsicle sticks being tested for strength. Also included in the photographs are shots of the big cheque won by a Ryerson team last year in the national Troitsky bridge building competition at Concordia University.

Bridge busting

File contains photographs taken at the annual Civil Engineering bridge building competition. Included are images of bridge construction and demolition. Winners of this competition get to travel to Concordia University in Montreal and participate in the Troitsky bridge building competition. One of the photographs was published in the FORUM in March 2002.

Campaign launch - Invest in Futures

File contains photographs taken during a fundraising campaign launch for the Invest in Futures fundraising campaign. Included in the photographs are images of Ryerson executives, faculty and staff. Included in the file is a partial list of the people in the photographs. Photographs from this file were used in the July 2004 FORUM publication.

Canada Foundation for Innovation cheque presentation

File contains photographs taken at the awards ceremony for an essay writing competition sponsored jointly by Public Affairs and the Office of Research Services. Photographs include group photos of all the essay writers, with some being recognized for winning essays by then Ryerson President Claude Lajeunesse. Photograph of competition winner Jacob Levman with Claude Lajeunesse was published in the July 2003 edition of the "FORUM". Jacob Levman was a Masters student in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Centre for Food Security

File contains photographs of former Ryerson director of the school of Nutrition Jennifer Welsh, Nutrition professor Cecilia Rocha, and Sociology professor Mustafa Koc. All three were part of Ryerson's Centre for Studies in Food Security. One of the images was published in the June 2004 edition of the FORUM.

December 6 memorial display - Paper Prayers

File contains photographs taken of the "paper prayers" display as part of the December 6th memorial. Display occurred in the Olive Baker lounge in the Podium building. Members of the Ryerson community were encouraged to submit their thoughts on violence, a prayer, a poem, a remembrance of a victim of violence or empowering words and they would be put on display.

Bruce Elder research grant

File contains photographs taken during and after a talk given by Ryerson Image Arts professor Bruce Elder. Bruce Elder was the co-winner of the 2000 Sarwan Sahota Distinguished Scholar Award and gave the talk as part of a series sponsered by the Office of Research Services. Pictures include shots of the lecture and group shots that include then dean of Communication and Design Ira Levine, Bruce Elder, then acting dean of Graduate Studies Rena Mendelson, then acting associate Vice President Academic Judith Sandys, and co-director of the Communication and Culture graduate program Don Gillies. One of the photographs was published in the April 2001 edition of the FORUM.

Included in the photographs are then dean of Graduate Studies Maurice Yeates, then president Claude Lajeunesse, and contest winner Jadah Folliott. Jadah was a MA student in Spatial Analysis. Innovation Nation book launch

File contains photographs taken at the book launch for "Innovation Nation: Canadian Leadership from Java to Jurassic Park". Co-written by 4 Ryerson Information and Technology Management (ITM) professors Wendy Cukier, Ken Grant, Catherine Middleton, and Denise Shortt along with Leonard Brody and Matt Holland. Net proceeds from book to support an ongoing prize for the best business plan from ITM's e-business program. Kodak donation

Donation was for funding the Kodak Lecture Series and for establishing seed funding for a new digital imaging facility. Malabar scholarship presentation and Malabar Costume Company

File contains photographs taken at the presentation of the inaugural Harry and Jean Malabar Costume Awards. Open to students in the 3rd and 4th year of costume design in the Theatre School, third year students Jean Louie and Elyssa Caron were the first winners and were presented their awards by Harry Malabar. Endowment fund created by friends and family of Harry and Jean in honour of Harry's 100th birthday. . Pictures also include shots taken in the Malaber Costume Company, founded by Harry Malabar in 1923. Photographs featured in the April 2000 edition of the FORUM publication.

POA Educational Foundation

File contains taken at an unidentified event involving the POA Foundation at Ryerson University. The POA Foundation is a charitable foundation founded in 2002 by Aditya Jha. They created an endowment fund at Ryerson to support 5 scholarships in Engineering, Business, and Community Services. The scholarships are as follows: The Aditya Jha Graduate Diversity award; The Aditya Jha Undergraduate Diversity award (2); The Aditya Jha Undergraduate Entrepreneurship award; and the Aditya Jha Community Development award.

Harry Rosen tribute dinner

The event raised $305, 495 for Ryerson's Retail Management program. Attendees included Harry Rosen; Ryerson President Claude Lajeunesse and his wife; Fashion Television host Jeanne Beker; Michael Belcourt; Ryerson Vice President Finance Linda Grayson; Hudson Bay Company CEO George Heller; and Board Chair Robert Guerriere.

Ryerson chair competition

File contains photographs taken at the ceremony for the Ryerson chair competition. The competition was held in the Interior Design school. Photographs include Ryerson President Claude Lajeunesse, design competitors, Interior Design student Agata Jaworski (winning designer), and the chosen prototype. A photograph of Agata Jaworski sitting in her winning design was published in the April 2002 edition of the FORUM.

Pam Seatle - Arts and Culture Career Fair

One strip of five negatives taken during the Arts and Culture Career Fair at Ryerson. Three of the photographs feature Pamela Seatle, a Citytv reporter who opened the fair, talking at the microphone. The other two show an unidentified man, and an unidentified woman speaking at the microphone. One of the photographs of Pam Seatle was used in the April 2000 FORUM.

TTC GPS research project

File contains photographs taken of Ryerson Civil Engineering professors Amer Shalaby, Ahmed Al-Rabbany, and Industrial Engineering professor Saeed Zolfaghari standing at a TTC stop on Church Street. Photographs taken to accompany a story regarding their research contract to develop a satellite based tracking system for TTC vehicles. One of the photographs was published in the Sept. 2000 edition of the FORUM.

Universal Studios lab ribbon cutting

File contains photographs taken at the ribbon cutting for the new Universal Studios Canada instructional demonstration facility in the Image Arts building.
