Wellesley World magazine

File contains copies of the Wellesley World magazine created the the Wellesley Hospital with news and stories about the Hospital, its, staff, and its auxiliary. Also included in the magazine was a page called "The Lion's Roar" which featured news and information from the Wellesley School of Nursing Alumnae Association. The magazine was published four times yearly.

Wellesley Central site closing

In 1998 when the Wellesley Central Hospital closed its medical departments and clinics were moved under the umbrella of St. Michael's Hospital. The Wellesey Central Hospital became the Wellesley Central site. On July 5, 2001 the final inpatient department was moved from the Wellesley site to St. Michael's Hospital on Bond Street. On July 18, 2001 a garden party, sponsered by St. Michael's Hospital and the Wellesley Central Health Corporation (WCHC), to commemorate the official closing of the site. The site would revert back to WCHC on July 31, 2001.
The file contains an invitation and a programme from the July 18, 2001 garden party. It also contains a special edition of the St. Michael's Hospital newsletter In Touch - "A Tribute to the Wellesley Central Site".

Twenty-five Year club

File contains programs for the Hospital's 25 year club celebrations. First introduced in 1969, the dinner has been held almost every year since then. Included are two programs from the May 9, 1988 dinner held at the Four Season's Hotel, one from the May 4, 1993 event also held at the Four Season's hotel, and one from the September 30, 1997 dinner held at The King Edward Hotel.

The Wellesley Hospital Medical and Research Centre events

The Wellesley Hospital Medical and Research Centre began construction in 1964, with the demolition of the original Hospital Building "Homewood". The cornerstone laying ceremony was held Wednesday May 19, 1965. The building was officially opened October 10, 1967.
File contains invitations and programs for the cornerstone laying ceremony and the official opening of the building.

The Wellesley & You - Caring Partners in Community Health

The Wellesley & You was a Development Office newsletter. Contains newstories about various Hospital departments and fundraising to support them and Hospital research. Included in the file are:

The Wellesley Hospital - Development Office

The Hospital for Sick Children affiliate pediatric program

The Hospital for Sick Children program, in place since 1919, was offered to nurses from Toronto General Hospital, Toronto East General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, Wellesley Hospital, St. Michael's Hospital, Branson Hospital, Women's College Hospital, and Soldiers' Memorial Hospital in Orillia. Graduate Nurses preparing for Ontario registration and students from the University of Toronto (come with their own instructor) were also in the program. Pediatric nursing was made a compulsory course for Nurses wishing to become registered with the Province of Ontario. The program itself lasted 8 weeks and covered conditions that were the most serious or most common in children including allergic conditions, cancer, congenital conditions, and exceptional children.
File contains a duotang with an outline of the pediatric nursing affiliate program.

Student notebook

Purple covered notebook belonging to a class of 1944 graduate. Inside the notebook are lecture notes and a copy of the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing procedures manual relating to the second year of training. Lecture notes for classes - Dietetics, Orthopedic surgery and Surgical Nursing.

Student fashion show, 1974

Photographs of Wellesley 2nd year nursing students modeling clothing in a fashion show held March 28, 1974. The show's theme was "Spring" and was held in the cafeteria. All clothing was supplied by The Patricia White Shop. The show was organized by 2nd year students and raised $400 dollars to help with graduation costs. Two of the photographs were published in the May 1974 Wellesley World newspaper.

Spring dinner, 1978

File contains photographs taken at the Alumnae association's May dinner held at The Town Inn. Elaine Hykawy, the Nursing consultant for the Ministry of Health was the guest speaker. The Class of 1938 celebrated its 40th anniversary, and the class of 1968 celebrated their 10th anniversary at the dinner. Two of the photographs were published in the September 1978 Wellesley World magazine.

Scholarship and award recipients

File contains photographs of Wellesley Alumnae being awarded the Elisabeth Flaws Memorial Scholarship of the Elsie K. Jones LaVenture memorial fund. The Elisabeth Flaws scholarship was available to alumnae members who are actively involved in the affairs of the Association and are taking post graduate studies in nursing at the degree level. The Elsie K. Jones fund was available to registered nurses on staff at the Wellesley for a minimum of one year and are taking short term course in graduate studies. This fund required a one year service commitment to the Wellesley are completing the course.

Report of the Nursing Taskforce

File contains a copy of the Nursing Task Force's report on the integration of the Hospital for Sick Children's, Women's College Hospital's, and Wellesley Hospital's Schools of Nursing into the existing Ryerson Nursing diploma program. Also included in the file is a copy of a letter to George Korey, acting chair of the Nursing Task Force at Ryerson, from G. E. Thornton, Executive Director of the Board of Wellesley Hospital.

Report of the Nursing Task Force at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute

The Nursing Task Force at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute was organized in response to the January 1973 memorandum regarding the integration of Hospital School's of Nursing into Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology. The task force formed in July of 1973. Ryerson Vice President Administration George Korey was the chairman and was composted of representatives all institutions involved. It's purpose was to guide the integration of the nursing schools from The Wellesley Hospital, Sick Children's Hospital, and Women's College Hospital into Ryerson's nursing program. Three working committees were established: Committee on Curriculum and Clinical Facilities; Committee on Teacher-student Affairs and Internal Resources; and Administrative and Finance Committee all overseen by an executive committee.
File contains a copy of the final report of the task force published in January of 1974, and one copy of appendix f - Nursing Task Force meeting minutes.

Red Cross Outpost Hospital - Red Lake, Ontario

File contains memos and correspondence regarding The Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing affiliation with the Red Cross Outpost hospitals. This agreement allowed 3rd year nursing students to gain experience interning at the Red Lake Outpost Hospital in Red Lake Ontario - located Northwest of Sudbury, about 100 kilometers from the Ontario-Manitoba border. The Wellesley School ended it affiliation with the program in 1971.

Also in the file is a copy of the annual report for 1961 presented by Elsie K. Jones for the Board of Directors of the Wellesley Hospital, and a copy of a report for the Department of Health on the title of person responsible for the administration of the educational programme.

The 1958 Wellesley Division -Toronto General Hospital report compiled by Elsie K. Jones, Superintendent of the School, for the Department of Health Nursing branch. Also included is the site visit report by the Senior Inspector Schools of Nursing and the Supervisor Public Health Nursing, and a variety of correspondence surrounding the reports. There appears to be some correspondence from 1960 included in the with these reports - not sure as to why this was stored with the 1958 report.

Picadilly Night, 1973

Two photographs from "Picadilly Night". Picadilly night was an annual event held in the cafeteria by the Student Nurses to raise money for student scholarships. One photograph shows three women tickets at Picadilly Night 1973. The second photograph shows two student nurses looking at a pillow cover at Picadilly Night, 1974. Photograph published in the January 1974 Wellesley World magazine.

Official Opening of the Edmund C. Bovey Lithotripsy Unit

The Edmund C. Bovey Lithotripsy Unit officially opened at The Wellesley Hospital on Tuesday January 19, 1988. The unit was a University of Toronto program being run at The Wellesley.
File contains a Wellesley Hospital folder. Inside the folder are two brochures and a two page informational packet about the lithotripsy machine. Also in the folder is an invitation to the opening.
