Audio-Visual Library (Media Centre) photographic slide collection

Originally organized into the Audio-Visual binder collection with no assigned record group, it became evident that these files belonged under the Library - as the Audio-Visual Resource Library and Media Centre were once part of the Learning Resources Centre. The Series is organized using the binder number the slides were stored under. Included are staff and faculty photographs, departmental photographs, general campus photographs, building photographs, and events.

Volume I

File contains 20 pages of slides showing the:

  • Canadian Library Association's exhibit at Ryerson
  • Library scenes from the Library's former location in the Business Building (Victoria Building)
  • Library scenes from the Mordell Building, (Library building)
  • Student orientation 1969
  • General Ryerson scenes

Television services

File contains textual records dealing with the library's television services including an architectural drawing, correspondence, and a report on lab equipment for broadcast journalism.

Alumni Office general file

File contains general textual records pertaining to the Alumni Office including sample Alumni I.D. cards and correspondence. It also contains a proposal to establish a collection of historical films and related material.

Architecture library general file

File contains memoranda, drafts, correspondence, reports, and an architectural drawing related to the Architecture library. It also contains records related to the planning of a new building to replace the former School of Architecture rental space that was severely damaged by fire.

1968-1969

File contains survey results, correspondence, and reports regarding education television at Ryerson and its impact on the Library's Audio-visual resource centre.

1970-1972

File contains general textual records from the Audio-Visual department, also known as the Media Centre, from 1970-1972.

It includes correspondence and the following reports:

  • Budgetary Equipment Cost for ITV System
  • Concept of Design of Instructional Television Viewing System for the Library Resource Centre
  • Technical Specification for a Video and Audio Retrieval System

1978

File contains proposals, correspondence, and a provisional report on library circulation systems from 1978, related to the DOBIS circulation system from.

1979

File contains policy and procedures correspondence, and a black and white photograph from 1979 related to the DOBIS circulation system.

Book Budget file

File contains the book budget documents from 1982-1984 and various acquisition budget allocations, memorandums, and a report on the library acquisition budget of 1984/1985.

Archives general file

File contains the Archives general records, including correspondence, floor plans, budget documents, brochures, proposed standards, and a proposal for an archives and records management program.

6th floor general file

File contains documents related to activities of the Library 6th floor staff, including annual reports, collection analyses and listings, job responsibilities, correspondence, and procedures from 1979.

8th floor general file

File contains documents related to the 8th floor of the library including annual reports, correspondence, periodical listings, policies, job descriptions, order listings, and pathfinders from 1977-1979.

9th Floor general file

File contains documents related to the 9th floor (Community and Social services) of the library including correspondence, a request for funds for the energy information service, proposals, meeting minutes, job descriptions, questionnaires, and pathfinders from 1974-1979.

Library staff workshop notices

Workshops to familiarize staff with the resources of the Library's public service departments were conducted in the 1970s and 1980s. Dhttp://atom.rula.info/index.php/library-staff-workshop-notices/edit#uring the 1980s and 1990s, computer skill workshops and other electronic training was often arranged and conducted by Zita Murphy. However, by 1985 a committee was formed, the Staff Development Committee. Also in 1985, an in-house role-playing training video was made for servicing patrons.The file contains memos, workshop announcements, and lists of attendees.

1968

File contains memorandums, estimates, meeting minutes, reports, and correspondence on library planning from 1967-1968.

General correspondence

File contains the correspondence, newsletter clippings, agreements (one with Bell Canada and one with the Minister of National Health and Welfare), needs assessments, and reports related to the Telidon project and the Nutrition Information Service at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute.
