Black Star Historical Photo Collection Donation

Ryerson received, through an anonymous donor, the Black Star HistoricalBlack and White Photography Collection and a $7 million financial contribution to support the preservation, research, study and exhibit of the Collection.This series contains announcements, a media release, invitation, news clippings anda Faculty of Communication Design newsletter documenting this historic event. There are also 3 Videocassettes documenting this event (news conference, comments)Location: A-V CollectionAlso included in this file is information on the new building being constructed to house the collection.

Academy Award For Technical Achievement certificate

"Technical Achievement Award" issued by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to Frieder Hochheim, Gary Swink, Dr. Joe Zhou and Don Northrup "for the development of the Kino Flo Portable, Flicker Free, High Output Fluorescent Lighting System for motion picture set illumnication." The Kino Flo system is described on the award as providing "high-output, flicker-free, color-corrected flurescent light to match 3200K or daylight" and as incorporating "remote ballasting" and making "available very flexible, compact, portable set lighting fixtures." The Award was presented on March 4, 1995 and is signed by Arthur Hiller, President of the Academy. Frieder Hochheim (Photo Arts '77) invented the system that "revolutionized lighting in the motion picture and imaging industry" and led the team that won the Academy Award

File contains photographs of a woman who is possibly Mary Jane Gomes, a 1982 Image Arts grad and a former Image Arts faculty member. File also includes a short biography on Mary Jane Gomes and her debut feature.

Axis New Media Festival

File contains materials from the Axis New Media Festival that showcases and celebrates work by graduating students of the New Media program within the School of Image Arts. File includes posters, postcards, and a program booklet.

Gallery and Research Centre post cards

The oversized post cards are artist renderings of the completed renovations of the Image Arts Building and advertise the future opening of the new gallery and research centre, anticipated to open on September 29, 2012. Before the opening took place, the gallery's name was changed to the Ryerson Image Centre (RIC).

The Art of the Archive - Ryerson Students and Alumni

The Art of the Archive exhibit that ran September 29, 2012 to December 22, 2012. The exhibit contained works by current students and alumni from the Image Arts program. Included are works by Alyssa Bistonath, Kyle Brohman, Julia Callon, Jenna Edwards, Tara Ernst, Daniel Froidevaux, Elisa Julia Gilmour, Ben Lenzner, Marc Losier, Eugen Sakhnenko, Kate Tarini, and Andrew Williamson.

Soon we were enroute again - The Margaret Corry Albums (1947-1963)

"Soon we were enroute again..." the Margaret Corry Albums (1947-1963) was an exhibit mounted by the students in the Film and Photography Preservation and Collections Management program with the Margaret Corry photograph albums held by the Royal Ontario Museum, courtesy of the Family Camera Network. The exhibit ran January 24 - April 18, 2018.

The Optics of Science - Early Western Stereographs from the Dr. Martin J Bass and and Gail Silverman Bass collection

"The Optics of Science - Early Western Stereographs from the Dr. Martin J Bass and and Gail Silverman Bass collection" was an exhibit mounted by the students in the Film and Photography Preservation and Collections Management program. The Optics of Science presented late 19th and early 20th century stereographic cards and supplementary material from the Bass Collection, part of The Image Centre’s holdings. "The exhibition and accompanying publication focus on representations of Western science and related knowledge at a time of unprecedented and rapid industrial, social, and geographical change. Comprising medical, clinical, anthropological, astronomical, and spirit photographs, the selection highlights the technical and historical intricacies associated with looking at images often entangled with colonial legacies" (https://theimagecentre.ca/exhibition/optics-of-science) The exhibit ran September 14 - October 22, 2022.

Kodak Canada - the early years 1899-1939

"Kodak Canada - the early years (1899-1939) was an exhibit mounted by the students in the Film and Photography Preservation and Collections Management program. Drawing from the Ryesron University Library Special Collections Kodak Canada Corporate Archives and Heritage Collection, the exhibit explored the development of the Kodak empire in Canada in the first half of the 20th century. The exhibit ran January 23 - February 24, 2019.
