Sign - Welcome To Ryerson

Poster mounted on foamcore. It is a four-color shot of the clock tower with"Welcome To Ryerson - Ryerson University" on it. Used at Ryerson events. This item became obsolete with the change of Ryerson's logo.

Sheri Cohen

File contains photographs of Ryerson Social Work graduate Sheri Cohen. Sheri Cohen graduated from Ryerson in 1996 and received an alumni achievement award in 2007. Photographs were taken along Victoria Lane and were taken for use in Ryerson's Invest in Futures campaign.

Seniors' Microcomputer Lab dedication

Dedication of the seniors microcomputer lab in Palin Hall . The computers were a donation from IBM. and the lab will be run by the L.I.F.E. Institutue. Claude Lajeunesse, Marilynn Booth, Ayman Antoun (IBM), Cam Jackson (Minister Responsible for Seniors) and Harold Wakefield (President of the L.I.F.E. Institue) was there for the ribbon cutting and dedication of the lab. A picture of seniors checking out the new equipment appeared in "Forum, July 1997 vol. 22, no. 12.

Self-defence instructors - Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) course

File contains photographs of Ryerson Security investigations specialist Keith Christie, crime prevention specialist and RAD (Rape Aggression Defense) instructor Chris Beninger, and staff training and development specialist Tanya Fermin holding protective equipment. One of the photographs was published in the Feb. 2004 edition of the FORUM in a story about Ryerson's RAD course.

Security - phones in Quad

A new safety device in the Ryerson quad provides direct communication to the security desk in Jorgenson Hall. Director of Equity and Harassment Services Jane Mays said the device, "moves us so much forward in communicatin and safety on campus". Scholarships, John Brooks Community

Shakeel Adam of Aerospace and Andrea Fraser of Adminstration and Information Management are the first winners of the Ryerson sponsored John Brooks Scholarhips. A page from Forum (pg.6) December 6, 1996 entitled "Aero, AIM studentst are first to win John Brooks awards.

Sam The Record Man - ROSOTF donation

Sam Sniderman, Claude Lajuenesse and Bruce Hurley meet in the store of Sam the Record Man to launch the Ryerson Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Fund (ROSOTF). Investment income from the ROSOTF will be used to provide financial assistance to Ryerson student in financial need. From the Forum, February 28, 1997 pg.10 "Sam (the ROSOTF Man) makes some sweet music for student aid".

Sally Horsfall Eaton Centre opening

Ryerson signage

Ryerson family papers

File contains photographs taken of individual pages of the Ryerson Family papers that were donated to the Ryerson Archives in 1997. Also included in the file are photographs of Ryerson Archivist Claude Doucet looking throught the scrapbook. Photograph can be found in the Ryerson Magazine, Spring 1997.

Ryerson chair competition

File contains photographs taken at the ceremony for the Ryerson chair competition. The competition was held in the Interior Design school. Photographs include Ryerson President Claude Lajeunesse, design competitors, Interior Design student Agata Jaworski (winning designer), and the chosen prototype. A photograph of Agata Jaworski sitting in her winning design was published in the April 2002 edition of the FORUM.

Ryerson chair - drawings and photographs

Drawings and digital (cd) images of Ryerson's official "Chair". The cd documents the various stages of the production of the chair, designed by Interior Design student Agata Jaworski. This chair was the winner in a competition among Ryerson's Interior Design students. The chair serves as a gift to major benefactors to the University. An image (chair and designer) has been printed from the cd and placed inside the file folder.

Included are photographs of Jim Peters and the Archives room; Claude Doucet and the Ryerson Family papers; Claude Doucet and Peter Ryerson with the Egerton Ryerson portrait he donated; Archives bicentennial display; Copies of photographs from RG 95.1 of various campus activities; and photographs of pages from the Ryerson Family papers.

Ryerson Today

Effective October 19, 2009 Ryerson Today - an e-publication put out by the Marketing and Communications department of University Advancement - will replace the current Forum Online (RG 395.6), President's Newsletter (RG 12.146), Campus News (RG 395.84), and Infoline (RG 395.22).
As of November 12, 2012 Ryerson Today established a new format and will no longer be printed for our collection as a whole. Pertinent newstories and letters from the President etc. will continue to be printed as they appear.

Ryerson Engineering Student Society - VW Bug push

File contains photographs taken during the first annual VW Bug Push for charity. Organized by the Ryerson Engineering Student Society. The push raised money for Hospital of Sick Children Foundation. The push took place around the Kerr Hall Quad.

Ryerson Community Park phase II

File contains photograph from the official opening on June 14, 1984 of the second phase of Ryerson Community Park. The Park was where the patio of the Ram in Rye campus pub is now located. In the photograph are Bill Cochrane, Chairman of the Alumni Fundraising and Board of Governors member; Bob Knox, Vice President of Public Affairs for Sears Canada; William Pattison, Chairmen of Ryerson's Board of Governors; Art Eggleton, Mayor of Toronto; and Reuben Baetz, Minister of Tourism and Recreation. They are posing beside the commemorative plaque.

Royal Commission Report Writers

Editors, Mary McDougall Maude and Rosemary Shipton are busy editing Royal Commission reports. Ms. Shipton and Ms McDougall Maude's partnership also includes their Publishing certificate program at Ryerson which began in 1990.

File contains head shots of professor (School of Business Management), Roy Morley. Includes a print copy of an article from the "FORUM", Feb., 1998.

Ron Besse

File contains photographs of Ronald D. Besse in various places around Ryerson including the Wall of Fame in Jorgenson Hall, in the walkway to the Rogers Communications Centre, and outside the RCC. Ron Besse is a Ryerson alumnus (Business '60), former member of the Board of Governors, and a Ryerson Fellow (1982).

Business Administration '60

As chairman, president and CEO of Canada Publishing Corporation, Ron Besse built one of the country's largest publishing groups, turning a small operation into a diversified publishing empire. The firm is the parent of Gage Educational Publishers, Macmillan Canada, Global Press, and Gage Distribution Company. In 1994, The Financial Post named it one of the 50 best managed companies in Canada. Mr. Besse, a former member of the Ryerson Board of Governors, was named a Ryerson Fellow in 1982. A past director of West Park Hospital and a former member of the Board of Trustees for Sunnybrook Health Science Centre, Mr. Besse has also been a tireless supporter of fundraising for Mount Sinai Hospital.

Rogers' fellowship reception

File contains photographs taken during the annual reception for Edward S. Rogers Sr. Graduate School fellowship winners. The fellowships are awarded to Communication and Culture students for outstanding academic achievement. Included in the photographs are Ryerson President Claude Lajeunesse; Ted and Loretta Rogers; and fellowship winners Lori Anne Cooke-Scott, Laurie Petrou, Peter Ryan, Sean Springer, and Nathan Holmes. One of the photographs was printed in the June 2004 edition of the FORUM.

Rogers inaugural fellowship winners

File contains photographs taken of the inaugural winners of the Rogers fellowships from the School of Communication and Culture. The fellowships are awarded to graduate students in the Edward S. Rogers Sr. Graduate School for Advanced Communications of which Communication and Culture is the first program in this new school. Shown in the photographs are Ted, Loretta, and Melinda Rogers; fellowship winners Alison Powell, Susan Aitken, Emma Aiken, and Julie Gustavel; and Ryerson president Claude Lajeunesse. One of the photographs was published in the April 2002 edition of the FORUM.

Rogers Communications Centre

File contains photographs showing the evolution and creation of the Rogers Communications Centre. File includes photographs from the announcement by the Minister of Colleges and Universities that Ryerson would be getting a centre for Applied Communications and Computer Science; Fundraising dinner for the new building including Ted and Loretta Rogers donation of $2 million; the groundbreaking ceremony and reception; Architectural drawings and construction photographs; Grand opening ceremony and reception; and finally the donation from Storagetek.
Also in the file is a site plan of trees and an internal memo regarding the fundraising campaign.

Rogers Communication Centre groundbreaking and opening

File contains photographs taken of the groundbreaking of the Rogers Communication Centre on November 15, 1989. Included in those images is Ryerson President Terry Grier and Ted and Loretta Rogers. Also in the file are photographs of the grand opening of the building on December 11, 1991. Included in those images are Ted and Loretta Rogers, Ryerson President Terry Grier, Board chair Isabel Bassett, Minister of Colleges and Universities Richard Allen, and Ted and Loretta's children Edward and Martha.

Rockwell Automation donation

File contains photographs of Rockwell Automation's donation to support research being carried out by Ryerson Professor Bin Wu in the Laboratory for Electric Drive Applications and Research. Included in the photographs are Steve Rizzo, manager of medium voltage development; Charles Cipolla, president of Rockwell Automation; Bin Wu, professor in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering; and Derek Northwood, Dean of the department of Engineering and Applied Science. One of the photographs was published in the February 2002 edition of the FORUM.
