Business Plan

1997/98 Office of University Advancement "Business Plan". Part of a presentation to the Ryerson Board of Governors, March 1997. This document pre-dates the "Invest In Futures" fundraising campaign.

CATE [Centre for Advanced Technology Education

File contains photographs of the Centre for Advanced Technology Education. The building was a 2 storey addition to the exisiting Eric Palin Hall located at 87 Gerrard St. East. Included are exterior photographs of architectural renderings, construction and the completed addition.

CJRT - Continuing Education building

File contains photographs of the CJRT or Continuing Education building (now known as Heaslip House) at 297 Victoria Street. Images are of the original building - before the renovations took place. Photograph of the sculpture over the door was used in the March 2003 edition of the FORUM.

Included in the file is a partial list of the people in the photographs. Photographs from this file were used in the July 2004 FORUM publication.

Campus engravings

File contains photographs of the various bas reliefs and sculptures that adorn Howard Kerr Hall. Included are photographs of "The Graduate" and "The Hockey Player" by sculptor Jacobine Jones. Also included are photographs of bas reliefs that adorn the south and east exterior walls of the building, done by sculptor Dora de Pedery-Hunt.

Campus exteriors

File contains photographic slides taken around campus. Included are aerial campus photos, Kerr Hall and the Quad, Victoria Lane - including the Podium and Library buildings, Lake Devo, Rogers Communication Centre, O'Keefe House, Pitman Hall, Student Campus Centre, the Normal School facade, and Yonge-Dundas re-development. Also include are photographs of flowers around campus and the Bird of Spring sculpture. A number of the photographs were taken during the winter.

Campus interiors

File contains photographs taken of various Ryerson building interiors. Included are the Library, the George Vari Engineering building, the Rogers Communication Centre, the Architecture building, and one identified classroom space.

Canada Foundation for Innovation cheque presentation

File contains photographs taken at the awards ceremony for an essay writing competition sponsored jointly by Public Affairs and the Office of Research Services. Photographs include group photos of all the essay writers, with some being recognized for winning essays by then Ryerson President Claude Lajeunesse. Photograph of competition winner Jacob Levman with Claude Lajeunesse was published in the July 2003 edition of the "FORUM". Jacob Levman was a Masters student in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Car Hoist - Civil Engineering

File contains photographs taken of the hoisting of the Civil Engineering car (1991 Pontiac Firefly) up and into the 4th floor of the Monetary Times building. Car is used in the Road Safety Research laboratory.

Career Fair

Companies and Banks such as Bell Canada, Sun Life, Canada Trust and Ford Canada were on campus recruiting and head hunting students.

Career accelerator cheque presentation

Canadian Women in Communications/Roger's "Career Accelerator" cheque presentation is a one week seminar for members of the group "Canadian Women in Communications" (CWC). In order to qualify applicants had to have a minimum of five years experience working in radio broadcasting. At the cheque presentation ceremony Stephanie McKendrick - CWC President, Pamela Wallin - CWC Board Member, Laura Nixon - CFO of Rogers, Dr. Ira Levine, Dr. Robert Gardner, Jerry Good (RTA Head of Audio and the person responsible for spearheading this project) and Claude Lajuenesse.

Carla Cassidy

File contains photographs of Ryerson Politics professor Dr. Carla Cassidy. Photographs were taken during 2 different sessions during the period when Carla was the Chair of the Politics and Public Administration Department.

Centre for Food Security

File contains photographs of former Ryerson director of the school of Nutrition Jennifer Welsh, Nutrition professor Cecilia Rocha, and Sociology professor Mustafa Koc. All three were part of Ryerson's Centre for Studies in Food Security. One of the images was published in the June 2004 edition of the FORUM.

Ceremony records

The Alumni Achievement Awards program was inaugurated in 1998 on Ryerson Polytechnic University's 50th Anniversary. There were initially two categories - Alumni Award of Distinction and Outstanding Recent graduate. The Alumni Award of Distinction is given for professional achievement. The Outstanding Recent Graduate Award is given an alumnus who brought honour to Ryerson withing 10 years of graduation. The winners are gifted with a medal created with funding from the Board of Directors of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts in honour of Mr. Sharpe's induction into the Business Hall of Fame in 1998. The award was re-named for Mr. Sharpe in 2002. In 2008 the Outstanding Alumni Volunteer Award was introduced, recognizing alumni who have provided outstanding volunteer assistance to the University. In 2013 the Outstanding International Alumni Award was introduced, recognizing the alumnus that has demonstrated exceptional accomplishment in their chosen profession, exceptional service in community affairs, and has contributed to the advancement of Ryerson University.

This file contains promotional material to fund raise for charities, primarily the United Way, but also Cancer Society, Ryerson awards, bursaries, and scholarships.

Chinese delegation

File contains photographs taken of a delegation of visitors from China to Ryerson. Photographs taken in the Board room on the 14th floor of Jorgenson Hall. Featured in the photographs are Ryerson President Sheldon Levy and then Dean of Engineering, Architecture, and Science Stalin Boctor. No indication on the photographs of the purpose of the delegations visit.

Cite Libre magazine launch

File contains photographs taken at the press conference for the English launch of the magazine Cite Libre. Event took place at the City of Toronto's Metro Hall rotunda. Then Ryerson President Claude Lajeunesse was the master of cerermony. Speakers included Aurele Beaulnes, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cite Libre; Jean-Louis Roux, former Lieutenant-Governor of Quebec; Ramsay Cook, professor of history at York University; and the magazine's editors Monique and Max Nemni. Former Prime Minister of Canada, the right honourable Pierre Elliot Trudeau was in attendance and is featured in the photographs. One photograph published in Ryerson's FORUM publication featured Claude Lajeunesse introducing Pierre Elliot Trudeau to Ryerson RFA president and Urban and Regional Planning professor Joe Springer. Photo was featured on the front cover of the February 2, 1998 edition of the publication.

Claude Lajeunesse tribute dinner

File contains photographs taken at the tribute dinner for outgoing Ryerson president Claude Lajeunesse. Dinner raised funds for a new Dr. Claude Lajeunesse Visiting Professorship in Innovation. Included in the pictures are Claude Lajeunesse, former Toronto Mayor Barbara Hall, George Vari, Carl Lovas, Ted Rogers, Loretta Rogers, Esther Farlinger, Dianne Cunningham, the Honourable Lincoln Alexander, former Ryerson president Terry Grier, Isadore Sharp, Rosalie Sharp, Isabel Bassett, Ernie Eves, Valerie Pringle, Ron Bessie, former City of Toronto councillor Kyle Rae, George Smitherman, Charlie Coffey, Jack Rabinovitch, Ed Zeidler, Joseph Rotman, and Dave Broadfoot. Photographs were featured in the July-August 2005 edition of the FORUM.

Colin Willows

File contains photographs of Colin Willows. Mr. Willows was involved in Ryerson's giving campaign and is a member of the LIFE Institute - programs for people ages 50+.

Consumer Info web site - launch

To launch the website Claude Lajuenesse and then Minister of Consumer and Commercial Relations, and others attend the kickoff of this new website. This was a joint venture between the Consumers Council of Canada, CIBC and the Consumers Association of Canada. A copy of the January 1997 issue of Canadian Insurance and Consumer Quarterly is added to the folder.

Continuing Education

File contains photographs relating the the School of Continuing Education. Included are photographs of Family Life Education certificate recipients; Mary McDougall Maude and Rosemary Shipton with the Publishing Certificate course; Life Institute members including former Architecture professor Pam Hitchcock; and Act II Studios production about living with cancer. There are other photographs in the file that are not identified.
