Continuing Education - awards

15 Continuing Education awards presented at the Awards Dinner sponsored by The Continuing Education Students' Association of Ryerson and The Continuing Education Division. In the color negatives there are staff and faculty presenting awards to selective students.

Richard Van Der Ross - lecture

Richard Van Der Ross , the first coloured rector at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa anti-apartheid educationist gave a lecture to a group of Ryerson students.

Oakham House cook - Tony Castillo

Several pictures of Tony Castillo, Oakham House cook. His picture appeared in Forum because he helped a man find his lost wallet. The man who happen to be a lawyer at the firm Miller Dallas Inc. wrote a letter to Claude Lajueness and Mayor Barbara Hall congratulating Tony Castillo for his kindness and actions he took in finding this wallet. United Way Pancake Breakfast (Eggy)

United Way Pancake Breakfast on Tuesday October 28, 1997 raised $1281.Service was provided by VP Dennis Mock, Ryerson's United Way co-ordinator Marg Macmillan, Executive Director of University Advancement Bob Crow, Nicole and Claude Lajeunesse, VP Michael Dewson, and VP Linda Grayson. A picture of the group appeared in Forum November 10, 1997. A yellow flyer advertising the location and the menu, with Nicole and Claude's favorite items.

Bring Your Kids to Work Day

Ryerson portraits - unveiling

Portrait unveiling of Egerton Ryerson and his wife in the Archives. Claude Lajueunesse , Ryerson Archivist Claude Doucet and Chief Librarian Eva Friesen were on hand with Peter and Janet Ryerson to help with the unveiling.

Architecture - Rooftop Gardens display

Landscape Architecture students displayed eight rooftop garden designs draw up for their client, Maurice Cody Public School in the artrium of the Architecture Building. Working with the Toronto school's 500 sutents and teachers, the third-year Ryerson Students designed plans and models for environmentally-firendly rooftop garden to be built at the school. Royal Commission Report Writers

Editors, Mary McDougall Maude and Rosemary Shipton are busy editing Royal Commission reports. Ms. Shipton and Ms McDougall Maude's partnership also includes their Publishing certificate program at Ryerson which began in 1990.
"Nobody knows these famous editors" from Forum, February 16, 1998.

Bridge Building Competition (Civil/Architect)

Model bridges built by Ryerson architecture and engineering students were put to the test in the university's annual competition February 19. The 34 bridges, built with only popsicle sticks, white glue and dental floss were tested for their resistance to various weights to the point of collapse. Image Arts - Kino Flo Demo (Hochleim)

Frieder Hocheim the Photographic Arts alumnus visited Ryerson to donate three sets of the revolutionary lighting system for which he won an Oscar in 1995.The Kino Flo motion picture set lighting systems ("Kino" is German for cinema and "flo" is short for fluorescent) "Oscar-winning grad lights up Hollywood" from Forum, November 24, 1997.

Alumni Awards ceremony

Graduates of Ryerson who have made achievements in different subject areas are honored. Plaques of the different honoraries are posted on the wall for alumni achievements.

Pebbles/Gretsky/The Bay Reception

PEBBLES - Providing Education by Building Learning Environments to Students. Wayne Greztky and in collaboration with The Bay presented Ryerson University with a cheque for $50,000.00 as part of the funding for the PEBBLES project.

Multi-Faith Centre - opening

"Mayor Mel Lastman at Ryerson March 26. 1998 for the official opening of the Multifaith Centre, a room made available in the Business building for the use of campus religious groups." From Forum, April 6, 1998.

Visitor - George Erasmus

George Erasmus held a lecture on "The truth or consequences : taking action on the Report of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples". The speech was co-sponsored by the Office of Employment and Educational Equity.

Campaign launch - Invest in Futures

File contains photographs taken during a fundraising campaign launch for the Invest in Futures fundraising campaign. Included in the photographs are images of Ryerson executives, faculty and staff. Included in the file is a partial list of the people in the photographs. Photographs from this file were used in the July 2004 FORUM publication.

Bruce Elder research grant

File contains photographs taken during and after a talk given by Ryerson Image Arts professor Bruce Elder. Bruce Elder was the co-winner of the 2000 Sarwan Sahota Distinguished Scholar Award and gave the talk as part of a series sponsered by the Office of Research Services. Pictures include shots of the lecture and group shots that include then dean of Communication and Design Ira Levine, Bruce Elder, then acting dean of Graduate Studies Rena Mendelson, then acting associate Vice President Academic Judith Sandys, and co-director of the Communication and Culture graduate program Don Gillies. One of the photographs was published in the April 2001 edition of the FORUM.

Graduate student essay awards (2005)

File contains photographs taken at the awards ceremony for the graduate students essay contest. Included in the photographs are then dean of Graduate Studies Maurice Yeates, then president Claude Lajeunesse, and contest winner Jadah Folliott. Jadah was a MA student in Spatial Analysis. Photograph from awards ceremony featured in IMPACT - as part of the FORUM publication - in the July/August 2005 edition.

Kodak donation

File contains photographs taken at the announcement and cheque presentation from Kodak Canada to the University. Donation was for funding the Kodak Lecture Series and for establishing seed funding for a new digital imaging facility. Included in the pictures are then Image Arts dean Brian Damude, then Ryerson president Claude Lajeunesse, and Kodak Canada president Norm Naumoff. Image from file featured in the November 2002 edition of the FORUM.

File contains photographs of researcher Dr. Kari Krogh. Dr. Krogh was a senior research fellow with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research who chose to do her research at Ryerson in the School of Disability Studies.

Pam Seatle - Arts and Culture Career Fair

One strip of five negatives taken during the Arts and Culture Career Fair at Ryerson. Three of the photographs feature Pamela Seatle, a Citytv reporter who opened the fair, talking at the microphone. The other two show an unidentified man, and an unidentified woman speaking at the microphone. One of the photographs of Pam Seatle was used in the April 2000 FORUM.

Universal Studios lab ribbon cutting

File contains photographs taken at the ribbon cutting for the new Universal Studios Canada instructional demonstration facility in the Image Arts building. One photograph, featuring Ryerson President Claude Lajeunesse, Image Arts chair Brian Damude, Senior VP NBC Universal Canada Ron Suter, and President and CEO GE Canada Elyse Allan, was published in the May/June 2005 edition of the FORUM.

Straw tower competition

File contains photographs from the straw tower building competition in the Olive Baker Lounge in Jorgenson Hall. Seventy-five grade 8 students from Cardinal Leger Elementary School competed. Event was organized by Civil Engineering student Dale Lynch, a former student of the school.

File contains 7 invitations. Three are for the installation for G. Raymond Chang as Chancellor of Ryerson University at the convocation held November 2, 2006 at 9:30am; one for the reception held in honour of G. Raymond Chang held at 6pm on November 2, 2006; and three are for a luncheon in honour of the conferring of the title "Chancellor Emeritus" on the Honourable David Crombie, O. C. held on November 2, 2006 at 12:30pm. File also contains greetings from The Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities Chris Bentley on the Installation of G. Raymond Chang as Chancellor, and a guest book from the reception.

File contains images taken for use in the FORUM publication. Photographs of Maria Alberto, a 36 year employee at Ryerson in Food Services. Photograph featured in the April 2003 edition of the publication in the "staff spotlight" section.

Basketball practice

File contains photographs taken during Ryerson Rams men's basketball team practice in the Kerr Hall gym. Practice is last one before the team left for Halifax to participate in the national finals. One photograph from this file was published in the FORUM on March 29, 1999. Included in the file is a photocopy of this image.

File contains photographs of Ryerson Aerospace engineering professor Kamran Behdinan. Photographs were taken in various places and with various equipment. They were taken for use in Ryerson's "Invest in Futures" donation campaign.

Car Hoist - Civil Engineering

File contains photographs taken of the hoisting of the Civil Engineering car (1991 Pontiac Firefly) up and into the 4th floor of the Monetary Times building. Car is used in the Road Safety Research laboratory.

Cite Libre magazine launch

File contains photographs taken at the press conference for the English launch of the magazine Cite Libre. Event took place at the City of Toronto's Metro Hall rotunda. Then Ryerson President Claude Lajeunesse was the master of cerermony. Speakers included Aurele Beaulnes, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cite Libre; Jean-Louis Roux, former Lieutenant-Governor of Quebec; Ramsay Cook, professor of history at York University; and the magazine's editors Monique and Max Nemni. Former Prime Minister of Canada, the right honourable Pierre Elliot Trudeau was in attendance and is featured in the photographs. One photograph published in Ryerson's FORUM publication featured Claude Lajeunesse introducing Pierre Elliot Trudeau to Ryerson RFA president and Urban and Regional Planning professor Joe Springer. Photo was featured on the front cover of the February 2, 1998 edition of the publication.
