Dr. Lynn, a dermatologist and pathologist, and George Kapelos, Chair of the Department of Architectural Science at Ryerson University, initiated the idea for Designing for Shade by consolidating years of discussions regarding the possible applications of architecture as preventative medicine for skin cancer and how to influence public policy makers to adopt these medical and design solutions. Access is restricted because some documents contain confidential information.

In the fall of 2005 the this form of media was distributed digitally. A decision was made to close this sub-series and file information in individual files.

The money will fund graduate fellowships and research chairs within the school. The University of Toronto donation was to fund scholarships, research chairs and labs. The University named the department of Electrical and Computer engineering after Edward S. Rogers.
