Architecture - Designing for Shade

Dr. Lynn, a dermatologist and pathologist, and George Kapelos, Chair of the Department of Architectural Science at Ryerson University, initiated the idea for Designing for Shade by consolidating years of discussions regarding the possible applications of architecture as preventative medicine for skin cancer and how to influence public policy makers to adopt these medical and design solutions. Included are images of the weekend-long charrette in June 2003 as part of the Designing for Shade conference.

Bookstore and Victoria Street parking garage

File contains photographs the Ryerson Bookstore and Victoria Street parking garage. Included are photographs of architectural renderings, construction of the building and completed interior and exterior shots. Also included are photographs of the Ryerson Engineering Mech Force 10 prank. The group pulled a VW bug shell up the side of the parking garage.

Ryerson Community Park phase II

File contains photograph from the official opening on June 14, 1984 of the second phase of Ryerson Community Park. The Park was where the patio of the Ram in Rye campus pub is now located. In the photograph are Bill Cochrane, Chairman of the Alumni Fundraising and Board of Governors member; Bob Knox, Vice President of Public Affairs for Sears Canada; William Pattison, Chairmen of Ryerson's Board of Governors; Art Eggleton, Mayor of Toronto; and Reuben Baetz, Minister of Tourism and Recreation. They are posing beside the commemorative plaque.

File contains photographs taken during the press conference announcing the redevelopement of the Yonge-Dundas north-east corner with the construction of the "Metropolis" complex. Included are a photograph of the marble Ryerson bust, a copy of a photograph of Egerton Ryerson from the 1850s, two photographs from Egerton Ryerson's 177th birthday party March 24, 1980, and a photograph from the Heritage Day reception March 24, 1982. Also included are many photographs of the Egerton Ryerson statue on Gould Street.

Transit strike

File contains 2 photographs of bicycles on campus because of the transit strike. One photograph shows the bikes locked to the Podium building 2nd floor railing. The other shows bikes locked to the railing in front of the Library building along Gould Street.

Gold Medal: Isadore Sharp Outstanding Recent Graduate

One gold plated medal with the Ryerson crest and "Ryerson Polytechnic University" on one side and a side view of Isadore Sharp and "The Isadore Sharp Outstanding Recent Graduate Medal RYERSON" on the other.
The Isadore Sharp outstanding recent graduate medal is awarded to an alumnus who has within 10 years of graduation brought honour to Ryerson and achieved distinction in their professional life.

Fairchild Media Group donation and tour

File contains photographs taken during the tour and donation announcement by Fairchild Media Group. They donated $30 000 to create the Fairchild Public Affairs Award to benefit RTA students who demonstrate an awareness and understanding of ethnic, social or political issues. Two scholarships of $3000 each are to be awarded annually. Pictured are RTA professor Jerry Good; then acting RTA chair Robert Gardner; Fairchild Radio Station manager Gary Nobody; and Fairhchild chief operating officer Calvin Wong. One picture was published in the February 2001 edition of the FORUM.

Ted Rogers' leadership gift signing and press conference

File contains photographs taken at the donation signing and press conference for Ted and Loretta Rogers' donation of $10 million to Ryerson and $25 million to the University of Toronto. Event took place at the University of Toronto. Ryerson's donation went towards founding the Edward S. Rogers Sr. Graduate School of Advanced Communications. The money will fund graduate fellowships and research chairs within the school. The University of Toronto donation was to fund scholarships, research chairs and labs. The University named the department of Electrical and Computer engineering after Edward S. Rogers.

Raymond Chang as Chancellor of Ryerson University at the convocation held November 2, 2006 at 9:30am; one for the reception held in honour of G. Raymond Chang held at 6pm on November 2, 2006; and three are for a luncheon in honour of the conferring of the title "Chancellor Emeritus" on the Honourable David Crombie, O. C. held on November 2, 2006 at 12:30pm. File also contains greetings from The Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities Chris Bentley on the Installation of G. Raymond Chang as Chancellor, and a guest book from the reception.

Basketball practice

File contains photographs taken during Ryerson Rams men's basketball team practice in the Kerr Hall gym. Practice is last one before the team left for Halifax to participate in the national finals. Cite Libre magazine launch

File contains photographs taken at the press conference for the English launch of the magazine Cite Libre. Event took place at the City of Toronto's Metro Hall rotunda. Then Ryerson President Claude Lajeunesse was the master of cerermony. Speakers included Aurele Beaulnes, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cite Libre; Jean-Louis Roux, former Lieutenant-Governor of Quebec; Ramsay Cook, professor of history at York University; and the magazine's editors Monique and Max Nemni. Former Prime Minister of Canada, the right honourable Pierre Elliot Trudeau was in attendance and is featured in the photographs. One photograph published in Ryerson's FORUM publication featured Claude Lajeunesse introducing Pierre Elliot Trudeau to Ryerson RFA president and Urban and Regional Planning professor Joe Springer. Photo was featured on the front cover of the February 2, 1998 edition of the publication.

File contains photographs taken at the official contract signing between Ryerson and George Brown College regarding the joint centre for Studies in Community Health. Then Ryerson President Claude Lajeunesse, then George Brown College president Frank Sorochinsky, and journalist Diane Francis - chair of fundraising campaign, are pictured.
