George Eastman Memorial Monument in Kodak Park

The photograph records a speech being given moments after the George Eastman Memorial Monument is unveiled, September 15, 1934. Below the monument are the ashes of George Eastman, who died on March 14, 1932. It is situated in the former Kodak Park, later renamed Kodak Business Park.

Item is a small hand held camera with black plastic and metal casing. Winding knob on bottom left and metal latch for attaching a flash on top (no flash included). Around lens opening, "BULLET CAMERA" is printed. Designed in art deco style.

Detective camera

Item is a wooden, leather-covered Waterbury Improved Detective Camera. The design is a simple box format with film holders accessed through a door at the rear, and shutter assembly inside the front of box. On the inside of the plate holder door, a sticker reads "Caution, This film must be developed before Jan. 1st, 1900."

Kodak Vest Pocket Autographic

Item is a folding trellis strut camera from the Vest Pocket series for 4.5 x 6 cm (1.77" x 2.36") exposures on 127 roll film. Lens is a Kodak Anastigmat 84mm f4.7, with a ball-bearing shutter with B,T, 1/25, 1/50, etc.. A case in included.

Item is a black imitation leather-covered wooden folding camera for 3 1/4 x 4 1/4" exposures, on No. 124 film. The camera has red cloth bellows and was originally priced at $9.00 USD.

Inside, a photograph of 4 men and 1 woman seated around a table, in the background several mirrored walls. The diners have all signed the bottom of the card and dated it. "1/26/56" "Dave Narved(?), Chas Bocklet(?), Burwell Abel, Marg Dunn, Run(?) Dunn". On back of card, blue print reading "Souvenir Photo" surrounded by a blue border. At bottom right, further blue text reads "For extra copies write to:/ PLANETARY PHOTO/ 311 West 34th Street/ New York 1, N. Item consists of a photograph mounted on grey card. Image shows a group of men seated outside a large brick building with a wooden sign high above their heads "HER-/ SPILLMAN/ THE/ ONLY/ BUILDERS/ OF/ IMPROVED/ 1873-1890" with the image of a carousel painted on the sign. The front row of the group holds up a wooden sign that reads "2ND ANNUAL OUTING/ OF HERSCEHLL SPILLMAN & CO'S/ EMPLOYEES JULY 3RD 1902." At bottom right, embossed in card, "L. H. Linh-pf(?)/ TONAWANDA, N.Y."

Portrait of Richard Gordineer

Item is a cream card with photograph of a well dressed black man. On verso, a long text in black letterpress followed by a purple stamp at the bottom reading "C.A. Stacey, Artist./ Over 56 Main Street,/ Medina, New York." The text is a brief biography of Richard Gordineer, a slave born to a Mohawk Dutchman and a black woman, who was freed in 1825 along with all the slaves in New York state. He was an excellent baker, and was regularly employed as a whitewasher until he lost all his savings in 1862. Gordineer died on December 11, 1884.

Item is a cream coloured cabinet card with oval fram decoratively drawn on card to mimick a heavy wall frame, complete with nail and hanging ropes. Photograph shows a young girl in checkered blouse holding flowers. On verso, a US 2 cent stamp, c. 1862-1871. Cancelled "[illeg] MILLS PENN YAN N.Y./ Jan 5, 1885."

Item consists of a brown card with oval photograph surrounded by an embossed oval frame. At bottom right, embossed, "Sl--?/ NIAGARA/ FALLS N.Y." Photograph shows a man wiht high collar, ascot tie and kerchief in his suit jacket.

Item is a cream cabinet card with gold letterpress, partially obscured by the photograph which is pasted on top, sideways. "Van Aken/ ELMIRA, N.Y." with a decoration with letters "V" and "A" intertwined. Photograph shows two individual circular portraits of a man and a woman. Handwritten in ink at the base of the woman's portrait is "1851" and the man's, "1850". Given the style of dress and hair, this is probably the date of the original picture and not a birth or death date. On verso, an elaborate border and design with griffon and foliage, with the text "E.M. Van Aken/ Photographic/ Art/ Studio./ Practical Photographer,/ 120 West Water Street,/ ELMIRA, N.Y./ COPYRIGHTED 1889."

Photograph is a full length portrait of a young boy, probably about 5 years old, wearing a lace shirt with dark cuffs and a dark ascot tie, trousers cut off at the knee, and holding a stick in one hand and a hat in another. He sits on the edge of a stone pillar with a background of abstracted leaves for a backdrop. On verso, an etching of a waterfall with the text "Goodwin./ 314 SO SALINA ST/ ART Photography./ INSTANTANEOUS PROCESS". At the top edge, handwritten in ink, "Georgia Wilson".

The girl on the right holds a doll in her hand with elaborate hat and lace vest. The older boy wears a plain double breasted suit and cropped trousers, and the younger wears a sailor-style fashion. They stand in front of an abstracted studio backdrop. On verso, handwritten in pencil, "16 Washington St.".

Item is a cream card with lithographed drawing of an ornate wooden frame in gold with blue tassles. Inside frame, photograph of a man holding the lapel of his jacket open with this left hand. On verso, a U.S. Revenue stamp meant for playing cards cancelled Jan 5, 186(5?).

Item consists of a cream card with embossed text at bottom edge, "DINGELDEY'S/ 780 JEFFERSON ST./ BUFFALO, N.Y." Photograph shows a boy with loose dress shirt and cropped pants holding a newspaper and wearing a beaten hat which looks to be fashioned out of newspaper.

Item is in a cream coloured card-frame embossed opening, with embossed letters "Potter's Patent March 7 1865." Which is how we dated the tintype. Photograph is a studio portrait of two women, both seated, arms resting on the one armrest with fringes. Woman on right is dressed all in black, with black hat and veil - perhaps mourning wear. The woman on the left is in full skirt with black trim and black top, white collar and black hat. Both have pink tinted cheeks.

Item has a cream card-frame embossed opening, with embossed letters "Potter's Patent March 7 1865." Which is how we dated the tintype. Photograph is a studio portrait of two women, both standing, side by side. Both women wear hats. One on left wears a dark shirtwaist, with a striped full skirt with hair tied neatly back and little bow at the neck. Woman on right has a dark dress, buttons down the front with a small white collar, in fashion in the 1860s. Her hair is shoulder lenght ringlets, also in fashion in the 1860s. Both have pink tinted cheeks.

Item is a small silver gelatin portrait print. Yellow and brown in colour, image is of a young girl with long brown hair, tied up on the side with a barrette. Background is a studio setting with a pillar or column. Inscription on recto "Florence" handwritten in black ink, across bottom of image. Inscription on verso "Tel. Main .3877 A. E. Otis Photographer Open Sundays & Holidays 457-59 Fulton St., B'klyn" in red ink stamp.

Annie Deacon

American actress, burlesque performer. She is recorded as having performed in "Our Cinderella: A Burlesque" by William Gill in the Colville Company's 1878-9 season, and in "The Magic Slipper" for Haverley's Theater in New York in August 1879, produced by Samuel Colville's Opera Burlesque Company.

American actress and "Gaiety Girl", Jennie McNulty was the leader of the Chroisters' Association in 1895, a predominately women's club with four small rooms for reading, writing, and relaxing and two large rooms for rehearsals.

Item is a cabinet card portrait featuring four monks, two seated with two standing behind in a photography studio. The card is greyish blue in colour, and the photographer's stamp on the verso reads: "PHOTOGRAPHERS, / ROMASZKIEWICZ / 1017 BROADWAY, / BUFFALO, N.Y.".

Graflex RB Series D

The Graflex RB is a single-lens reflex camera, the last of the family of field cameras known as "Graflex cameras", in contrast to the "Graphic" Graflex cameras. This model was produced between 1928-1947. It features a rotating back (abbreviated to RB), 4" x 5" plate holder, a light-excluding focusing-hood, interchangeable film holders, extensible lens with hood, and a f/4.5 anastigmat lens with a focal length of 7-1/2 inches (190mm), and is is designed to be held at waist height for use. The Graflex was used in the USA Navy and favoured for its ability to capture outdoor and action scenes. The aperture and tension can be adjusted according to the shutter speed plate, a table mounted on the side of the camera indicating adjustments. The Graflex RB series D is composed of straight-grain Honduras mahogany covered with black Morocco leather and chrome details.

This camera is accompanied by a carrying case of wood, black leather, and green felt. It contains one camera instruction manual: "Instruction manual for Graflex Cameras: RB Super D & RB Series B: Also Earlier Models including Series B, RB Series D, Auto, RB Auto, Auto Jr., RB Tele & RB Jr." It also contains 7 film holders and one replacement rotating back. The back piece is inscribed with: "Graflex Cute film Magazine: Pat Sept 7, 1920 Other Patents Pending: Made in U.S.A. by Folmer Graflex Corporation Rochester, N.Y., U.S.A., 43. For use of this alternate back, the camera back must be removed and rotated.

Seneca Camera City View plate camera

Item consists of a 5" x 7" dry plate view camera with Eastman Kodak Company Fixed Prime Lens with automatic shutter. The City View camera from the Seneca Camera was available in several sizes from 5"x7" to 17"x 0", and were originally sold in a set that included a base, plate holders, carrying case, and tripod.

The Lark at the Longacre Theatre

Item consists of a Playbill program for the production of the Jean Anouilh play The Lark at the Longacre Theatre. The play starred Julie Harris, Christopher Plummer, and Boris Karloff. Newspaper photographs of the production are tipped into the program throughout.
