When the church was built it stood without (outside) the city wall, near the Cripplegate. The church is dedicated to St Giles, patron saint of beggars and cripples. It is one of the few medieval churches left in the City of London, having survived the Great Fire of 1666.

Album belonged to a nurse from Alexander Ontario who served in Cuba during the Spanish-American War. Some are amateur travel photographs and some appear to be taken with the purpose of being sold as a souvenir, featuring text.
Included are images of Havana, the coast, harbour, buildings, monuments, etc; the Red Cross Building, a U.S. hospital, a man dead on a stretcher, bullfights, and locals. Possibly a photo of Theodore Roosevent delivering the U.S. Soldiers.
Also included are an invitation, a newspaper cutout of an illustration of The Cane-bottom'd Char by W.M. Thackeray and an unidentified pressed plant leaf.

Item consists of a dark blue album with gold embossed sailboat on the cover and the word Photographs. It is bound with black string. Pages are black. Photos are held in with black photo corners, or are loose. There is no writing in the album.

Accompanying material: map of Madrid, 2 photo postcards of bullfighting, 2 photo postcards of Winston Churchill's grave, 1 photo postcard of La Scala Theatre in Milan with two tickets and a program.

The house was sold at the beginning of the First World War for seven million dollars.

Cyanotype image of a church with its surrounding grounds. Looks like a swing set in background. Inscription handwritten in black ink on recto "Presbyterian Church." Paper very thin. Dated 1904 because same handwriting as 2008.001.1881.

4x5 film pack adapter for Premo camera. Metal and wood pack adapter. Inscription on side of wood "For Premo cameras." Premo cameras were manufactured by Rochester Optical and Camera company, which was bought out by Eastman Kodak in 1903. Date based on inscription: "Manufactured by Eastman Kodak Co. successor to Rochester Optical Co. Rochester, N.Y., U.S.A. Canada 25-03 British Pat. Apr. 21-03 France Pat. Apr. 18-03 German C.R.P. June 7 - 1905 U.S.A. Pat. May 19-03." (Eastman Kodak changed the name of the Rochester Optical Company to the Rochester Optical Division in 1907). Inscription on outside of metal back, "Premo film pack adapter."

Item is a beige coloured card with photograph of a young man and two women, the women wear puff-ball sleeves and the youngest wears a belt around her waist in the popular fashion for the time. At the bottom right, in gold letterpress, "G.F. Castleden/ Old Photo. Stand/ MOOSOMIN, N.W.T." On the verso, in pencil, initials have been added over the approximate place of the sitters. The girl on the left has the initials, "E.A.C", the man, "S.J.C." and the woman on the right, "M.E.C."

Item is a photograph of two seated women in white blouses and plain, dark skirts. The one on the right has a wrap skirt with buttons at the seam near the waistband and holds a book loosely in her right hand. A young man stands between them, wearing a suit and tie of a dark colour. On verso, printed in black ink, "POST CARD/ CORRESPONDENCE/ ADDRESS ONLY".

Series consists of cabinet cards, cartes de visite, ambrotypes, daguerreotypes, tintypes and gelatin silver prints made by professional photographers, generally featuring a studio mark or imprint. Prints are usually found mounted on cards.

Item is a cream cabinet card with gold letterpress, partially obscured by the photograph which is pasted on top, sideways. "Van Aken/ ELMIRA, N.Y." with a decoration with letters "V" and "A" intertwined. Photograph shows two individual circular portraits of a man and a woman. Handwritten in ink at the base of the woman's portrait is "1851" and the man's, "1850". Given the style of dress and hair, this is probably the date of the original picture and not a birth or death date. On verso, an elaborate border and design with griffon and foliage, with the text "E.M. Van Aken/ Photographic/ Art/ Studio./ Practical Photographer,/ 120 West Water Street,/ ELMIRA, N.Y./ COPYRIGHTED 1889."
