"Alcohol and Ryerson - A Review" report

A review of Ryerson's alcohol policies and procedures with draft resolutions for changes. The report followed the coroner's inquest recommendations stemming from the accidental death of a high school student at the ferry docks after attending the Ryerson Picnic at the Toronto Islands.

"Coming to Life" documentary

File contains 2 copies of a documentary created by the LIFE Institute in conjunction with the Programs for the 50+ at the Raymond G. Change School of Continuing Education and the Government of Canada's New Horizons for Seniors program. The documentary tells eleven stories of people who are involved with the LIFE Institute and Programs for the 50+. Included in the documentary are stories about Geoff Arnold, Sharon Hampson, Dorothy Knight, Joan Lee, John Simke, Josephine Spencer, John Twomey, Kitty Wintrob, Charles Wright, and Marilyn Wright.

"Dialogue with the Giants" Journalism conference

File contains photographs taken by Ryerson employee Jerry Davey at the "Dialogue with the Giants" journalism conference at Ryerson. Included in the photographs are the big name newspeople including Richard Gwyn, Barbara Amiel, Allan Fotheringham, Sydney Gruson, Jeffrey Simpson, Peter Jennings, Peter Mansbridge, Morley Safer, Robert MacNeill, Barbara Frum, Henry Champ, and Peter Gzowski. The event raised money, through ticket sales, for the Committee for the Protection of Journalists, an international organization the helps journalists who face imprisonment abroad.
Photographs are of the panel discussions and one group photograph of all the participants.

Two copies of an 8mm colour film of Ryerson activities taken by Journalism instructor Ted Schrader. An approximate list of scenes, in rough sequential order, is as follows : Ryerson Hall and St. James Square grounds; students in cars; orientation and initiation; a visit to the Ottawa Press Gallery (Earl Beattie); the Ryersonian newsroom (Ted Schrader); the cafeteria; an "away" football game (student supporters, parade, cheerleaders, band, Al Sauro); ROW/RIOT(?) rehearsals; the front of Ryerson Hall; the temporary buildings and quonset huts; a young Paul Nowack; Earl Beattie; a TTC chartered bus(?); students at the Ryerson Hall entrance; a reference to the Eisenhower U.S. election. An 8mm colour film of Ryerson activites taken by Journalism instructor Ted Schrader, in the 1950s (period could be around 1954, based on the play Antigone, which was presented in January of that year) . "Headstart" (Summer program), 1972, 1977

File contains photographs taken during the Head Start for New Canadians program. Photographs depict project workers of the Opportunities for Youth project and young students participating in the Head Start program in various classrooms on campus.

"Peter Pan" ROW production

The file consists of the original 16 mm film re. the 1969 ROW production of 'Peter Pan'. The film rolls were screened on equipment available in the School of Image Arts technical department.

FILMS :
For identification purposes the film cans were labelled A and B. Based on the technician’s evaluation and expertise, only the A film was transferred onto two videocassettes. The B film requires more specialized equipment not available in the School of Image Arts.

Two videocassettes, copies of the 16 mm film, can A.

"Ryerson Honours Chancellor David Crombie" video

A brief (7:40 minutes) retrospect of David Crombie's life and career at Ryerson, presented at a farewell reception celebrating the end of Crombie's term as Ryerson's first Chancellor. Terry Grier, Al Wargo, Lynda Friendly and Claude Lajeunesse gave brief personal comments about the individual, David Crombie.The Ryerson Archives was given credit for the use of archival material about Ryerson and David Crombie.Because this was a joint production of the President's Office and the Office of University Advancement, a decision was made to co-arrange under both Groups. (Ottawa) Normal School composite class photograph 1892

Sepia tone photograph of the 1892 Normal School graduating class,which includes the donor's (Hugh Brown) mother. Research on the building and several of the individuals depicted in the bottom portion of this photograph lead the Archives to believe that the normal school inquestion is not the one which was in St. James Square in Toronto for so many years but is in fact the school in Ottawa which opened in 1875. William Scott, who served as the Toronto Normal School's first principal and is shown in the photograph, taught at the Ottawa Normal school from 1881 to 1894.
