Architecture Building

Several photos of the architecture building on Church Street before, during and after the complete build; as well as, the official opening on October 14, 1982. In attendance were :

Architecture Building (720 King St. W.) and Classroom photographic images

The file contains photographic images divided into separate files :

A. 1977 - The "Annex" Architecture building in flames and the fire aftermath, including the drying of books and journals.

B. 1977-1978 - School of Architecture at 720 King St. W. with faculty and students in process of architectural design (1977) ; official opening (1978) ; student projects.

C. 1973, 1982 - Student award winners.

D. 1981 - Official opening of the Hester How Day Care Centre at Toronto's City Hall with Brian Segal (University President), Paul Godfrey (Metro Chairman), and Arthur (Art) Eggleton (Toronto Mayor). The playground equipment was designed and constructed by TMU (formerly Ryerson) first year Architecture students.

Development and Renovations of Ryerson Campus photographs

A binder of black and white photographs depicting various changes (development/renovations/construction) of the Ryerson campus/campus buildings during the period 1967-1972. They have been removed from their original plastic sleeves and placed inside acid-free files folders and then arranged by year and subject as follows:

Design Archive photographic collection

Design Archive Inc. was the professional company of photographer Robert Burley, who established it in January 1987 and acted as president until January, 2000. Design Archive Inc. specialized in architectural photography: work is project-based, with project locations including commercial centers, businesses, private residences, and public places of note. Interior and exterior architectural structure is the predominant photographic subject, with landscapes and detailed design highlights, furniture, and machinery filling out the collection. In 2003, Burley accepted a full-time teaching position at Ryerson University’s School of Image Arts and suspended work at Design Archive Inc.

These fonds include photographic materials, including photographic prints, contact sheets, negatives, CDs, and other miscellaneous items that were collected by Design Archive Inc. from 1987 to 2003.

Business - Hanoi University book donation

File contains photographs and negatives of the business book donations for the Foreign Trade University in Hanoi. Photographs include images of Ryerson Polytechnic University's business student Steven Hammerschmidt; Mary Jo Nicholson, co-ordinator of Law in the School of Business Management; business student, Manny Farmanara ; and faculty member Art Pierce. File also contains 1 sheet of textual material. Photograph published in the Forum newsletter.

Good Waitress Service! by Ethel A. DeMings

Photostated copy of "Good Waitress Service!" authored by Ethel A. DeMings, former head of the Institution Management course at what was then the Ryerson Institute of Technology. The pamphlet was distributed by the Canadian Restaurant Association.

Substance accounting: a fundamental knowledge structure for all disciplines

A copy of the paper authored by Helmut Burkhardt and published in the proceedings of the Annual General Meeting of the American Society for Engineering Education. The meeting took place in Toronto in 1990. It was also published in the proceedings of the 2nd Canadian Conference on Foundations and Applications of General Science Theory held at Ryerson in 1990.

Wilde 1982 was the Lesbian and Gay History Conference, held at Ryerson on June 30-July 3, 1982. The event was co-sponsored by the Canadian Gay Archives and Doing It! Gay Liberation in the '80's.

This file contains one copy of the Rowsell's Toronto City Directory (1850-1851). Also included are two articles, photocopies of selected pages, and the Library Circulation book card set in place when the book was removed from the shelf.

The fonds contains records created by Peter Di Gangi (Sicani Research), containing research related to Indigenous governance in Canada. The content includes published and unpublished materials and topics include: policy and research papers on Indigenous law and policy, federal government reports and statistics, Ontario government reports and statistics (focused on northern and northwestern Ontario), draft reports and intervenor submissions prepared for the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples (RCAP), Assembly of First Nations reports and committee kits, records from the Centre for Treaty Advocacy, policy papers on federal legislation and the Indian Act, social programs, taxation, lands, various court cases and decisions with analyses, materials on the evolution of federal Claims policy and efforts at reform, some material related to United States Indian policy and treaties.

The fonds has been divided into series by box (35 in total) and further divided into files and items. The series, file, and item titles were provided by the donor (with some exceptions).

Names and terminology used in the scope and content field reflect the names and terminology used in the files and on the items and is often outdated and out of use. (i.e. Department of Indian Affairs (DIA); Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations). Every attempt has been made to utilize the current names in the creator and access points fields in the records (i. e. Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC); Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN).

Harold Brillinger in the following activities :

  • June 1978 graduation, in the graduand procession and later with his B.A.A. degree in Photographic Arts.
  • 1980, teaching tap dancing in the Summer at Ryerson, Physical Education skills program; and a formal portrait of his students. A few of these images were published in Ryerson's "The Rambler", October 1980.
  • ca. 1980, 1 contact sheet of Harold dancing with a large group of children and teenagers all wearing hats (event or class unknown).

File contains assignments, quizzes and other course related materials. Also included is a letter written various universities in the U.K. requesting an information exchange to help Ryerson develop its Building Science.

Exhibitions - Image Arts gallery or studio installations

Series contains posters, postcards, and other promotional materials for exhibitions held in the exhibit space in the Image Arts Building, as well, colour slide photographs of exhibit installations and photographic images displayed by students and faculty.
