Glass filters in case

Brown leather case has a metal snap and is stamped on the front with "Rollei F&H", and on the back with "GERMANY." The small clear glass filter is printed with "Carl Zeiss Jena, Proxar 1, Nr. 585040." The large clear glass lens is printed with "Carl Zeiss Jena, Proxar 1, Nr. 573601." A card identifies the lenses by name and number in German, French, and English: "These Proxars are so adjusted to each other that, when attached to objectives having exactly the same foci, they again give uniform foci and thus also bring about the same alterations in extension for focusing to various distances."

Wood camera frame

Camera is made of wood: a two-part hinged frame supports a hinged lens assembly and hinged contact frame. The lens assembly includes a leather and felt lens cap. There is also a metal-ringed glass lens and a small metal key loose inside the camera body.

One envelope contains two prints of A.T. Orr, one with him and a group of friends, the other holding game after hunting.

Nurse Jill and Dad

Item consists of a colour photograph of a young woman and older man in front of the Palace of Westminster (or Houses of Parliament) in London, UK. The young woman is wearing a blue dress and is sitting, while an older man dressed in a suit with a red tie stands beside her. They are both looking at the camera. In the midground there are cars driving by and in the background the Palace of Westminster is visible. On the back of the photograph is typed "Nuse Jill and Dad. Photo by Win, London, 1972." The image is surrounded by a 0.5 cm white border and is printed on Kodak Paper.

Item is a paper cabinet card holder. Printed text on cover reads, 'Paid Book Post, Printed Matter only'. Blue stamp reads, 'Star Office, Feb 5 1895. Item is a certificate of Honour. Inscription reads, 'High School of Montreal. Certificate of Honour. This is to certify that at the June Examinations, 1906 Edward De L. Orr of 2nd year took first place in and honourable mention in Arithmetic, Dictation, French and Writing. Wellington Dixon, Rector'.

Egypt album

Reptile pattern, black cover embossed design. Bound by braided string. Grey pages - photographs glued in. Album made in Great Britain by Ensign Albums. No notations or dates.

Themes include dogs, forest, camping, mountains, snow, biking, early motorbikes, railroads, families, log cabins, rivers, military, and mining at the beginning. From the fourth page to the ninth page the photographs feature images of palm trees, desert, the pyramids, other Egyptian landmarks, the construction of a railway, farming, camping, wagons pulled by camels, a river and waterfalls. The final pages completed of the album show family snapshots, a farm in the country (possibly England), croquet, a harbour, dogs and ships.

Sketch of interior of Cornelius Vanderbilt House

Item is a sketch of the interior of a room with furnishings, made with ink on glassine paper. Inscriptions read: "Geo. S & Polley & W. Pub. Boston" "Interior Cornelius Vanderbilts Residence". The mansion was located on 1 West 57th Street in New York City and was built in 1883. Cornelius Vaderbilt II was an heir, socialite and businessman. The house was sold at the beginning of the First World War for seven million dollars.

This series part of Life Model Slides. "The most popular slides in Victorian times were 'life model slides', which depicted popular sentimental stories of the day.The slides were produced by arranging actors in costume in front of a painted back drop. Stage props were placed in front of the actors and the scenes from the story were photographed. The slides were often hand tinted with colour and sold in boxes, along with a text to be used as a reading.In particular the temperance movement and political speakers used slides to convert a mass audience." Perhaps the fifth one in a series, because the man in the slide is the same man from 2008.001.1303. Image of two men talking by a gate, at what looks to be a ranch. The one man is the dressed in a black suit, holding a briefcase or suitcase, perhaps a doctor. The second man is holding a cowboy hat, and has a beard. The image is handpainted over a B&W slide.

This is how date was decided. There's a red and white sticker on the glass with a number 2 written inside. The image is of a mummified head, with neck. Nothing else.

Image is of a rock/natural bridge in mountains, it is called the Prebischtor or the Pravcicka Gate.

Stikcer on wood frame is crumbling off, "statue de …" cannot read because it's been ripped off. Very brittle. Image is of a man standing on a statue that is laying on its side. Like its been recently uncovered or excavated, with palm trees in background.

There looks to be some pink newspaper framing the image, perhaps to hold it in place in the frame. Please note that research shows that the image does not look like other photographs of the New York Herald newspaper offices based in New York City. Image is of a building, in a square.

Devil's Bridge

Lantern slide, glass B&W slide in wood frame. Image framed in black and gold. Sticker on glass handwritten in pencil "Devils Bridge" and perhaps the word "Switzerland." In print "E. & H. T. Anthony & Co. New York." Image of two bridges spanning a river, in a canyon. Research showed that it is the Devil's bridge of St. Gotthard's Pass in Switzerland. It is recorded that the first bridge was destroyed by a flood in 1888, and the second bridge was built in 1826 and third one in 1958. This image shows two bridges, the original and the second which is why the slide is date ca. 1826-1888.

Baptistery of St. John, Pisa

It is located in the Piazza dei Miracoli, near the Cathedral and the leaning Tower.

Research into Dresden museums showed that it resembled the facade of the Old Masters Picture Gallery, state art museum located in the Semper wing of the Zwinger Palace.

It is an illustration representing the poem "Coming Thro' The Rye" by Robert Burns (1759-1796), composed 1796.

Sackville Street, Dublin

Lantern slide, glass slide in wood frame. Image area is circular as is the hole in the wood frame. Illustration is hand painted onto the glass. Handwritten on sticker "Ireland - Sackville Street, Dublin." Illustration of a busy street scene with people, horse & buggies, streetcar with buildings on either side of the street, and the Nelson's Pillar at the end of the street. Cobblestone street, men in top hats. Please note, date is based on the knowledge that since 1924, the street has been known as O'Connell Street, Dublin's main thoroughfare. The Nelson's Pillar was erected in 1808 and destroyed by a bomb in 1966. It is a granite pillar topped by a statue of Horatio, Lord Nelson.

The apple thief

Magic lantern used to project this type of circular slide was of German design, and was available c.1850. Magic lantern slides were popular in the 1890s.
