Class of 1925 and others

Sepia toned photograph of 12 members of the class of 1925 taken at the 1937 reunion and 25th Anniversary of the Hospital celebrations. In the photograph. Included with the photograph is a piece of paper indicating the people in the photograph and the ones missing from it as well.

25th anniversary - 1937

The 25th anniversary of the founding of The Wellesley Hospital and The Wellesley Hospital Alumnae Association's celebrations were held June 28 - July 2, 1937. Events included a luncheon at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, bridge and dance at the Royal York Hotel, a banquet at the King Edward Hotel, a reception at Government House hosted by Lieutenant-Governor Herbert Bruce (hospital founder), Class of 1937 graduation exercises, and a picnic and swimming at Dr. R. J. MacMillan's farm.
The file includes one souvenir booklet, two reunion banquet programmes, and an invitation to the reception hosted by Herbert and Angela Bruce at Government House. There is also a 16mm film of the Hospital's Anniversary activities.

Elisabeth Flaws and Elsie K. Jones scholarship award winners

A letter sized piece of paper and an oversized poster listing the names of winners of the Elisabeth Flaws scholarship and the Elsie K. Jones Scholarship.
The letter sized listing lists winners, in black ink calligraphy, between 1940 and 1985.
The poster lists winners, in black black ink calligraphy, between 1940 and 1991. It also notes that awards were not handed out in 1987, 1989, 1992, and 1993.

Series contains published materials created by or about the Wellesley Hospital. Included in the series are 2 copies of the book written by Hospital founder Dr. Herbert Bruce, 2 copies of the Wellesley Hospital history book written by Joan Hollobon, and numerous magazines and newsletters written by Wellesley Hospital for the staff and the general public.

Wellesley World magazine

Series consists of copies of the Wellesley World magazine created the the Wellesley Hospital with news and stories about the Hospital, its, staff, and its auxiliary. Also included in the magazine was a page called "The Lion's Roar" which featured news and information from the Wellesley School of Nursing Alumnae Association. The magazine was published four times yearly.

Wellesley Hospital staff appreciation day

Photographs found in original photo developer's envelope and inscribed "Staff Appreciation day 1984 Nov 14. Photographs from this event were all taken in the hospital's cafeteria. Not all of the photographs are of the staff appreciation day - some of the negatives show teaching and posed group photos.

Miscellaneous photographs

File contains a series of miscellaneous photographs. Three of the prints are of a spread of nursing magazines; one is of an "Innovations in Nursing" display in the hospital's front lobby; one is a composite with the central image of the nurses choir with smaller images of older people; and the final photograph is of six children in the yard of a house.

Hospital information

File contains brochures created to give the reader information about the hospital as a whole. Included are four brochures from 1967 designed to be a "tour" of the hospital, and brochures from 1976, 1976, and 1988 that would have been given to people coming to The Wellesley for treatment.

Special Events

Series contains items and files related to various events held by The Wellesley Hospital. Included events are long service awards, the Wellesley Auxiliary anniversary, the 25 year club, and the cornerstone laying and grand opening of the Medical Building.

Twenty-five Year club

File contains programs for the Hospital's 25 year club celebrations. First introduced in 1969, the dinner has been held almost every year since then. Included are two programs from the May 9, 1988 dinner held at the Four Season's Hotel, one from the May 4, 1993 event also held at the Four Season's hotel, and one from the September 30, 1997 dinner held at The King Edward Hotel.

Report of the Nursing Task Force at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute

The Nursing Task Force at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute was organized in response to the January 1973 memorandum regarding the integration of Hospital School's of Nursing into Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology. The task force formed in July of 1973. Ryerson Vice President Administration George Korey was the chairman and was composted of representatives all institutions involved. It's purpose was to guide the integration of the nursing schools from The Wellesley Hospital, Sick Children's Hospital, and Women's College Hospital into Ryerson's nursing program. Three working committees were established: Committee on Curriculum and Clinical Facilities; Committee on Teacher-student Affairs and Internal Resources; and Administrative and Finance Committee all overseen by an executive committee.
File contains a copy of the final report of the task force published in January of 1974, and one copy of appendix f - Nursing Task Force meeting minutes.

Condiment dish with lid

White and blue china condiment dish and lid. Plate attached to bottom. Blue line and flower pattern around rim of lid, top of dish and around edge of attached plate. The Wellesley Hospital coat of arms is on one side of dish. Lid handle is embellished with gold, and lid has small opening for spoon.

Ceramic tile from fireplace

Green bordered ceramic tile that is sectioned into 4 quarters. Each smaller square has a different plant or flower on it - shamrock, thistle, rose, and a leaves. Tile is supposed to represent flora of the British Isles - shamrock = Irelend; Rose = England; thistle = Scotland; and the leaves.
Tiles were used around the fireplaces in the original hospital rooms in Wellesley's "Homewood" building. This tile was taken from the fireplace in room 17. A green felt backing has been added to the tile.

The Wellesley School of Nursing sous-fonds

The Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing opened in 1912, offering a three year course in nurses training. It continued until 1973 when it was amalgamated with the Ryerson Polytechnical Institute School of Nursing.

Sous fonds contains materials relating specifically to the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing. They include photographs, correspondence, artifacts, books, and ephemera.
