Research on the building and several of the individuals depicted in the bottom portion of this photograph lead the Archives to believe that the normal school inquestion is not the one which was in St. James Square in Toronto for so many years but is in fact the school in Ottawa which opened in 1875. William Scott, who served as the Toronto Normal School's first principal and is shown in the photograph, taught at the Ottawa Normal school from 1881 to 1894.
