Unsorted materials

Series consists of materials previously stored on the UM (unsorted materials) shelves in the Archives. They are believed to be files maintained by Gail Donner in her role as the chairman of the Nursing Department.

Included are files on:
Nursing Advisory Committee records; Curriculum Committee records; Assistant Chairman's and Administrative meeting minutes; Departmental Council records; Total Faculty meeting records; Curriculum working parties; College of Nurses of Ontario; Correspondence with the Dean of Community Services; Advisory Committee for post diploma programs in psychiatry, paediatrics, and adult intensive care; Learning resources committee; conference attendance; faculty lay-offs; Heads of Diploma Nursing Programs committee; admissions; and some general information from the various campuses of Ryerson's program - Sick Kids, Women's College, and Wellesley.

Eric A. Campbell series

Series consists of materials collected by Eric A. Campbell when he attended the Training and Re-establishment Institute, taking a course in Horology. It is a unique donation as when he started his coursework it was the Training and Re-establishment Institute and completed the course at Ryerson Institute of Technology.

Briefs to establish permanent schools once TRIT closes

File contains petitions for the permanent establishment of existing schools under the Training and Re-establishment Institute once the Institute is disbanded. The schools concerned are: Food Industries; Electronics; Architectural draughting; Beauty Culture; Welding; and Barbering. Included are multiply copies of each petition.

I.T.U. Lessons in printing - a series of practical printing texts for shop, home, and school

Series consists of courses entitled I.T.U. Lessons in Printing by the International Typographical Union in Indianapolis, Indiana. Contains 8 units of learning that appear to be from 2 different course sections, one in general printing and the other is newspaper printing. Used by the Training and Re-establishment Institute of Toronto, some of the booklets have their crest on the front.
Topics include elements of composition, display composition, job composition, english for printers, imposition and lock up, newspaper advertising, and newspaper practice.

Developing for the 80s fundraising campaign

The series holds records documenting preliminary work in establishing the five-year fundraising campaign aimed at improving Ryerson's learning environments through non-governmental donations to upgrade student program equipment, perform building renovations, and ...

The financial goal was $6,000,000 aimed primarily at industry organizations, as well as, alumni, faculty, staff and families, Ryerson intended to promote the school's expertise in technical education, the increasing demand for such education with the lack of adequate funding.

The Image Centre

Black Star Historical Photo Collection Donation

Ryerson received, through an anonymous donor, the Black Star HistoricalBlack and White Photography Collection and a $7 million financial contribution to support the preservation, research, study and exhibit of the Collection.This series contains announcements, a media release, invitation, news clippings anda Faculty of Communication Design newsletter documenting this historic event. There are also 3 Videocassettes documenting this event (news conference, comments)Location: A-V CollectionAlso included in this file is information on the new building being constructed to house the collection.

Filmbuilding.99

This series contains textual, moving image, and data records related to The International Academic Congress "Filmbuilding.99 - Devices and Delicacies of Film Design", which was hosted at Ryerson. Includes conference program, periodicals, posters, grant applications, organization committee meeting minutes, promotional materials, correspondence, and financials.

Maximum Exposure and year end show materials

File contains materials from Maximum Exposure, the year end festival and exhibition of work by students in the School of Image Arts. It includes pamphlets, brochures, programs, posters, cards, presentation folders, and photographic prints.

Exhibitions - Image Arts gallery or studio installations

Series contains posters, postcards, and other promotional materials for exhibitions held in the exhibit space in the Image Arts Building, as well, colour slide photographs of exhibit installations and photographic images displayed by students and faculty.

Slides

Series contains 40 sleeves of slides removed from the catalogued collection of the audio-visual department of the Library. A decision was made to retain 34 of these sleeves. Information about the subject matter (dates and description) had to be retrieved from microfiche according to call number and shelf list.

Access Services files

Access Services evolved into "Borrower Services" (RG 5.246) with the re-organizationof the Library.This collection contains e-mail messages and minutes of Access Services staff meetings.

Information services and reference files

Under the restructing of the responsibilities of the librarians in 1998 "Reference" has been included with this sub-series. All librarians having portfolios relating to this area will be included under this subseries: Library user analysis; publications; data/GIS; library user education; collections, series; and collections, monographs.This area involved into Research & Learning Services (RG 5.248) with further re-organization of the Library in 2002.

Audio-Visual Library (Media Centre) photographic slide collection

Originally organized into the Audio-Visual binder collection with no assigned record group, it became evident that these files belonged under the Library - as the Audio-Visual Resource Library and Media Centre were once part of the Learning Resources Centre. The Series is organized using the binder number the slides were stored under. Included are staff and faculty photographs, departmental photographs, general campus photographs, building photographs, and events.

Censorship Issues in the library

File contains textual records, Posters and buttons. Textual records relate to the library's treatment of various issues related to censorship including challenged books and Bill C-54. Buttons and posters were generated as part of the Library's protest against the proposed Bill C-54, which would have increased censorship.

Library newsletters

The Series consists of newsletters published to inform its readership of the activities of the Library, including employee profiles and administration updates.

The LRC newsletter (Library and Research Centre) was produced simply and in-house (within the Library) in 1987 and had no official title. No other issue was produced.

"Nexus" replaced the first newsletter in April 1990, as a more formal newsletter and aimed at a readership including Ryerson faculty and Library staff. With the November 2009, Issue 21, NEXUS became available only as an e-issue. The last issue was Spring 2014, Issue 29.

Faculty Council general files

Series contains meeting minutes, agendas, correspondence, reports and other materials related to the Faculty Council prior to and after the Board's formation.

Board of Directors meetings

File contains agenda, meeting minutes, committee notes, meeting notices, and other materials relating to the Board of Directors of the Ryerson Union. Majority of the material is from 1971.

The series contains copies of student nominal rolls with each student's respective program RIT enrolment and/or secondary school or place of residence prior to admission to Ryerson Institute of Technology during the years of 1952, 1954, 1956, 1961 and 1962.

Guidance Counsellor Information files

Series contains records created by the Admissions Office for Guidance Counselors and Guidance professionals for the purpose of promoting Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, Ryerson Polytechnical University and Ryerson University to secondary school students.

Reference photograph files

Series contains photgraphs taken and maintained by the Department of Information Services prior to their amalgamation with Community Relations. The photographs were used for publications including FORUM, THE ANNUAL REPORT, THE RYERSON RAMBLER, TECHNIKOS and THE ADMISSIONS BULLETIN during the period 1967 to 1986, covering such subjects as Convocation, Fashion, Homecoming, Individuals, Parades/Picnics, RTA, Visitors and the Winter Carnival. Series consists of photographs created by/for the office of Information Services showing various events, programs, campus, and buildings on campus. Also included are scripts to slide shows the images were used in.

Series contains 6 volumes of the School's News Bulletin published by the Information Services Department. Newsletter contains stories about campus events, people, and school business.
The series has been divided into 6 files based on volume.

Unsorted material

Series consists of materials transferred in the Archives holdings in the 1970s and left in piles on shelving units. No original order was apparent. After viewing materials it was discerned that the best course of action was to sort material by subject.
