Original photograph is in a decorative frame/case (daguerreotype or ambrotype?), and it is a studio portrait of a man and woman, sitting side by side, looking straight out at the camera, hands folded in lap. Woman wears a white bonnet and checked dress. Clothing of sitters suggest that original photograph dates from the 1850s. Handwriting on the back in pencil, not able to decipher.

His cheeks are hand painted.

Item is an unmounted portrait of a man seated and a woman standing with her left arm resting on back of his chair. There is a table in front of her, beside him with a book on it. She also holds a book, that is resting on the table. She wears a hat and shirtwaist with buttons, the sleeves are puffy which are in keeping with fashion of the 1890s. She wears a brooch at her neck. He is sitting with his legs crossed, his body rurned away from the camera, but his face looking right at camera. He holds a scroll in his hand, and wears a sash of somesort across his chest. He looks very pleased with himself. Both their cheeks are tinted pink. Top corners angled off, and bottom edge is curved.

Item is an unmounted group portrait of four men and one woman sitting in a car. It is believed to be a Ford Model A car dating from 1903 which is how the photograph is dated. All four men are wearing bowlers hats, and suits with jackets and ties. Woman is wearing a large hat with flowers. Man behind wheel and another in backseat both have mustaches. Studio backdrop. Black band across top of image.

Item is an unmounted studio portrait of two men, both seated and turned toward each other, but not looking at each other. Both wearing dark frock coat with white shirts, no ties. One on left has a mustach. Both cheeks are inted pink. Man on right has his arm on armrest, and the other one on his knee. Varnish coating gives tintype a brownish colouring. Studio background looks like a fireplace.

Hair tied back with soft bangs is in keeping with the fashion of the 1880s. Her hands are held together in front, in black gloves. She is shown from the waist up.

Given their clothing perhaps they are in mourning. All four corners are angled off.

Item is a daguerreotype framed in brass matt, cover glass and brass preserver, but no case. Image is of a man with a mustache and a hat. He's wearing a dark suit with vest and silk tie tied in a bow. Looks as though the daguerreotype has been removed from its case.

Item is a hinged union case (plastic case) with scroll design. Die Engraver is Frederick C. Key, Casemaker is S. Peck and Company who began manufacturing in 1852, as per example in Union Cases: A Collector's Guide to the art of America's First Plastics by Clifford and Michele Krainik p. 173. Inside cover has a brown velvet cushion. Image side has brass matt, cover glass and brass preserver over tintype. Image is of a little boy, right hand on armrest. Cheeks tinted pink.

Item is a cyanotype image featuring a portrait of a man dressed in the Canadian Navy uniform, on his hat is written H.M.C.S. He stands in what looks like the back yard or garden of a house. Paper is very thin.

File contains three cream-coloured cards embossed with the coat of arms of the University of Guelph and the words "Macdonald Hall/ Guelph" in the upper left corner. On the lower right, the photographer's studio is identified as "The O'Keefe's/ Guelph, Ontario". Two of the portraits are duplicates. The third portrait is identified as "Jennie". Each card has a piece of glassine tissue covering the photo inside.

Item is a grey and green mottled-pattern bi-fold card with, art nouveu floral design embossed into the upper left corner of the front flap. On the front of the right flap is embossed the name of the photographer: "Craswell/ Charlottetown, P.E.I." Inside, a photograph of a woman with a short haircut. The image is very dark, causing the rest of her body to be obscured. On the inside of the left flap, a handwritten note gives her name and the date.

Black leather album, lined with satin, bound with black string. "Photographs" is embossed on the front cover, and "Royal Albums" and "Made in USA" are in gold letterpress inside the back cover. Snapshots are glued to 40 black construction paper pages. Primarily vernacular images of weddings, soldiers, and vacations. Only Dick Gossett, Alan Pride, Bill McMillan, Duncan Wallace, and Minnie (Wallace) Owens are identified. One photograph of young men is entitled "Bolsover Flirts."

Royal Albums

Canada album

Item consists of a brown album with gold embossing and darker brown detailing. Item has part of a metal clasp on right of cover. Pages are white with gold embossing and sleeves with cutouts to insert the photographs into. Spine is torn and in very poor condition.
Photographs are all carte de visite size, and there are 5 tintypes in paper mats spread throughout the album. Some are hand-coloured. They are all portraits, some are labeled in pencil or black ink on the back of or below the photograph with the subject's name and sometimes a date. The photographs were taken accross Canada in Charlottetown, Montreal, Halifax, Pictou, Ottawa, and others as well as Boston, Washington D.C., New York and Auckland New Zealand. The collection consists of a large number of studio portrait photographs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries in carte-de-visite or cabinet card formats. There is a large collection of landscape and industrial imagery dating from the Victorian era to the 1960s. The collection also comprises many vernacular photographic albums, good examples of glass and metal photographic processes including cased daguerreotypes, ambrotypes and tintypes. The fonds is comprised of the following 8 series: Portraits (sub-series for Groups and Celebrities), Vernacular Photography (amateur snapshots), Landscapes and Industry (sub-series for Slides), Albums, the A.T. Orr collection and a Miscellaneous group of images which were generally created in mixed media.

Photograph shows a boy seated on a plush chair with one leg crossed under, holding a tennis racket. Boy is same as pictured in 2005.001.107.

Item is a portrait of a little girl in tartan skirt and sash, with black coat and black hat (traditional highland dress?). Photograph is mounted on grey card stock with embossed border and text at bottom in bronze letterpress, "J. Walker/ FERGUS, ONT." On verso, in pencil, "2.00".

Item is a photograph mounted on card backing, showing 4 children in outdoor setting with studio backdrop. Boy at centre sits on a swing with his sisters on either side, and the youngest seated on a log. On verso, in pencil, "McCallums - Ailsa Craig/ Lived next-door to us -".

Portrait of Richard Gordineer

Item is a cream card with photograph of a well dressed black man. On verso, a long text in black letterpress followed by a purple stamp at the bottom reading "C.A. Stacey, Artist./ Over 56 Main Street,/ Medina, New York." The text is a brief biography of Richard Gordineer, a slave born to a Mohawk Dutchman and a black woman, who was freed in 1825 along with all the slaves in New York state. He was an excellent baker, and was regularly employed as a whitewasher until he lost all his savings in 1862. Gordineer died on December 11, 1884.

Item is a pink carte de visite with note handwritten in black ink at bottom, "Mrs Day, Singh, India 1443". Photograph shows an Indian woman in sari seated in a wicker chair holding a sleeping baby in ruffled, Western-style dress. On verso, in pencil, "Bible woman/ Balbia(?)." In a different hand, "1.00". and again, different and at bottom of card "1443".

Item is a cream carte de visite with gold border and portrait of a man in suit and bowtie, with a thick beard. On verso, in black letterpress, "EREKSON & LEE,/ PHOTOGRAPHERS,/ 285 MAIN STREET,/ BRIDGEPORT, CT./ Duplicates may be had at any time." A 2 cent US stamp is stuck on the back.
