OneCard Office

The Ryerson One Card Office was created in December 2002. The One Card was introduced as the university's official ID card for students, staff and faculty; it also served as a library card. The card has magnetic strips that track funds for food contracts, vending machines, and photocopying/printing services. In December 2005, the new Ryerson One Card replaced old Ryerson Photo ID cards and the Intercon Security Access Cards.

By the fall of 2008 the card has been referred to as the Ryerson OneCard. The Office has as its main location in the lower ground level of Jorgenson Hall in JOR02.

The fonds includes job vacancy notices, forms and publicity records related to the OneCard, meal plan, membership and related e-mails.

Co-operative Education at Ryerson began in 1976 when Chemical Engineering & Applied Chemistry & Biology 4th year students were assigned to unpaid technical projects in government & industry two days a week. A formal co-op program and office was established in 1991. In 1997, the Office of Co-operative Education was established in its location at 101 Gerrard St. East under the direction of Dr. Easton to coordinate the expanding co-op activities in a number of departments at Ryerson. By 2011 when the Office celebrated its 20th anniversary, the program had been rebranded as Ryerson Co-operative Education.

Ryerson Taskforce on Anti-Racism

The Taskforce on Anti-Racism at Ryerson was established in the April of 2008. It was co-chaired by Eileen Antone from OISE-UT and Grace-Edward Galabuzi from Ryerson and membership included nine community members representing equally students, staff, and faculty. It issued a final report in January 2010.

The fonds contains backgroud e-mails, posters and publicity material and copies of the Final Report and the resonse by President Sheldon Levy.

The Student Information and Advising Centre (SIAC) was created as a pilot project and opened in the fall of 2008 in POD144 adjacent to the Jorgenson Hall main entrance. The Centre was created as a one-stop information destination. The centre grew out of concerns raised in the President's Commission on Student Engagement and Experience. The centre morphed into the AskMeRU InfoDesk housed in POD-61 that provides quality information in regards to all things Ryerson. Its goal is to direct and connect students to the appropriate service or department for their needs.

Modern Literature and Culture Research Centre

Members were drawn from across Ryerson. It was recommended that the committee continue to meet.

Ryerson Opera Workshop

The fonds consists of records pertaining to the operetta, Ryerson Opera Workshop, otherwise dubbed ROW, including programmes, notices and advertisements, newspaper articles and reviews, and a 1967 audio tape from The Wizard of Oz.

Established in 1951 by Jack McAllister, at the time faculty in the English Department, and in the continuing role of director-in-chief, the Workshop was an institute-wide, student endeavour from production crew to cast members.

Financial upsets were occasionally felt, with no Workshop performed usually because the Student Administrative Council felt it could not support the show.

Michael Twiss fonds

Michael R. Twiss is a limnologist (fresh water scientist) with expertise in the microbial plankton ecology of the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River system and interactions of plankton with elements in the water column. Twiss was a member of the Faculty of Applied Chemistry and Biology at Ryerson University from 1999 to 2002. He holds an honours Bachelor of Science degree in biology and environmental science from Trent University, a Master’s degree in botany and environmental studies from the University of Toronto, and a Ph.D. in science de l’eau (limnology) from the Université du Québec, where his thesis was awarded the Governor General of Canada Gold Medal for Academic Excellence. Twiss conducted a post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Marine Chemistry and Geochemistry at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution from 1996-1998. His research has been funded by such agencies as the National Science Foundation, the St. Lawrence River Research and Education Fund of the New York Power Authority, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, New York Sea Grant, Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada, and others. Twiss is a member of the St. Lawrence River at Massena Area of Concern Remedial Action Committee, a panel reviewer for granting agencies (NSF, NSERC), and an editor. He was associate editor of the Journal of Phycology from 2005 to 2012, and is on the editorial board of Frontiers in Aquatic Microbiology. Since 2002, Twiss has been a professor of Biology in the School of Arts & Sciences at Clarkson University.

Hart's areas of professional interest include: writing early childhood curriculum, integration in childcare, and implementing the emergent, project-based curriculum. Her most recent interest lies in developing and implementing the outdoor curriculum. She recently won the Ryerson Field Educator Award and participates with colleagues in leading and conducting presentations and workshops on a variety of topics related to early childhood education.

Robin Rowland is an independent author, journalist and visual journalist, based in Kitimat, British Columbia, Canada. From 1995 until 2001, Rowland taught Computer-Assisted Reporting and Investigative Techniques at the Ryerson School of Journalism. Until March 2010, she worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s news division as the Photo Editor for CBC News and as a producer for the news website CBCnews.ca. From 1988 to 1994, Rowland worked for CTV News. From 1982 to 1984, she worked for the CBC’s pioneering new media experiment, Project Iris, which involved sending to news out through the then primitive teletext system. She is the author of five books, including the first book on how to do research on the Internet.

Rheta Rosen is a family sociologist and a professor emeritus at Ryerson University with an area of interest in aging and intergenerational relationships. Besides developing the continuing education Certificate in Family Life Education in 1991, she was active on the committee that created the present Certificate in Family Supports. Rheta has taught Group Dynamics and Interpersonal Communication at Ryerson University and at Ryerson’s School of Nutrition. She was the Coordinator of the Interpersonal Skills Teaching Centre and Coordinator and Director of Learning and Teaching Services at Ryerson University. She has a PhD in Sociology from York University.

The Ryeham Radio Club was a student group formed in 1953 as an offshoot of the Radio Broadcast program. Members were predominantly members of the Electronic Technology course, several of whom were licensed amateurs. The club operated the radio code VE3RIT, and in 1956, Ryeham became net control for Eastern Canadian universities. Ryeham eventually changed its name to the Ryerson University Amateur Radio Club, and continued in existence until approximately the year 2000.

It would appear that the society was created because of the Technology student's dissatisfaction with their representation with SAC, in 1967 or 1968. In Fall of 1969 they became the governing body for the Technology programs under the Student Union. S.E.T.S. appears to have been in existence until the mid 1970's.

For more than three decades she has edited the award-winning literary magazine Descant, and through the magazine and other anthologies has promoted the work of Canadian writers nationally and internationally. She has published ten books of poetry, as well as edited more than one hundred and thirty issues of Descant magazine, as well as many books, most recently, Blake In Our Time: Essays in Honour of G.E.
