Europe albumen & photomechanical album

Item is a photograph album with a blue cloth cover and leather spine. Binding is intact. White pages. Includes 88 photographs, including albumen, platinum and photomechanical reproductions. Photographs mounted with glue. Notation in brown/black ink. Photographs on one side of page only. Handwritten notations in black ink; some scribbling and childish drawings in pencil.

Themes include architectural images of well-known sites and one or two famous paintings, including the Descent of the Cross painting by Ruben.

Item is a cabinet card portrait of baby. Brown text below photograph reads, 'Copyright Barraud 263 Oxford St London A few doors West of The Circus'. Brown text on back of card reads, 'Mr. Barraud 263, Oxford St. W (regent circus) London. Mr. Barraud bestows particular attention on enlargements, miniatures and reproductions which can be made from any photograph. All negatives registered and carefully preserved. Mr. Barraud's studios are approached by a lift constructed on the most approved patents which will be found a great advantage to sitters as no stairs have to be ascended, childrens portraits the same prices as other sitters.' Inscription in ink on back of card reads, Willi a Kiss, from Phyllis Margaret Dickson'.

St Giles-without-Cripplegate Church, London

Lantern slide, glass B&W slide in wood frame. Image framed in black, and shaped like an circle. Y sticker on wood frame. Image of the interior of St Giles-without-Cripplegate Anglican church in London, England. It shows the tombs of Ben Johson, Edmond Spencer, John Milton and Samuel Butler. When the church was built it stood without (outside) the city wall, near the Cripplegate. The church is dedicated to St Giles, patron saint of beggars and cripples. It is one of the few medieval churches left in the City of London, having survived the Great Fire of 1666.
