Messages of protest at former site of Egerton Ryerson statue

File contains photographs taken on campus of spray painted messages related to Egerton Ryerson and his role in Residential Schools in Canada. The messages were created in response to the discovery of the remains of 215 children at the site of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School located on the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation. On June 6, 2021 after a march and rally in Toronto, the statue of Egerton Ryerson was pulled down. The plinth it sat on was later removed by the University.
The photographs were commissioned by the Office of the President and were taken after the statue was pulled down and the plinth was removed. The photographs are of the messages of protest that were spray painted and chalked on the walls of Kerr Hall, the sidewalk and road in front of where the statue was located, on the stones in Lake Devo, and on the walkways in the Kerr Hall Quadrangle. There are also photographs of the areas around where the messages were located - Gould Street and the Kerr Hall Quadrangle.

The building is located at 45 York Mills Road, in the former Borough of North York. Other materials include a postcard of Robbins Drug Store in New Brunswick, five telegrams from Allan Jackson, four newspaper articles about wireless operators, three articles about women entering the Royal Canadian Air Force, a booklet from Westminster Abbey entitled "Westminster Memories," and eleven small souvenir picture cards featuring different interiors, a brochure called "What's on and Where to Go in Glasgow," a pamphlet about the Castle of Edinburgh, a letter from Allan Jackson to his wife Mrs. G.A. Jackson in Montreal, a map of London, a London Underground map, two London transport day tickets, and several pamphlets from various sites in London.

Photographs are mostly family snapshots of people, sometimes with automobiles or in uniform from the Northcote family. Also included are images of golfing, bridges, fishing, horse riding, camping, farms, cattle, sheep, chicken coops, horse drawn sleigh, the beach, trees, houses, dogs, trains, children, biking, deer and wagons. Three newspaper articles are pasted in. One about the Northcote family (mother, six sons and two daughters) all serving in the war, one about Pte. Wm. Clements dying in battle, and one of Corporal Northcote being the first Royal Engineer to be awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal.

Black cover and pages.Album manufactured in New York by F.L. Schafuss & Co. Photographs glued in. Handwritten notations in black ink. Includes panoramic photographs and one navigational chart for sailing. Some loose photographs.
Photographs are travel snapshots from a cruise aboard the S.S. Vigilancia, a steamship that traveled from New York to Vera Cruz, Mexico. There are photographs of the popular sites and activities in Cuba, Bahamas and Mexico, including bullfighting, shoe shining, street scenes, cattle ranches, restaurants, mahogany, rubber, cocoa and banana trees, canoeing, vendors, Pico de Orizaba, markets. cathedrals, monuments, etc.
Other notable photographs are of the interior of The Grand Hotel, Wreck of the USS Maine at Havana, Monument to Cubans executed by the Spanish at Fort Cabana, ox-carts, and horse-drawn trams. Photographs taken at The Sequential Great Bull Fight, Havana. Vera City Mexico, Frontera Tobasco Mexico, Monte Cristo, Balancan, San Carlos, Santa Margarita, Vega Canal, Calle de Mayo and Mexico City.
Black cover album with grey pages. Photographs glued in. Bound together by screwposts. Some photographs are torn, cut, cracked; many are loose or coming loose. Many pages are left blank; approximately ten to fifteen pages from the back of the album, there is a newspaper clipping of Princess Elizabeth holding baby Princess Anne (b. 1950).
Album belonged to a nurse from Alexander Ontario who served in Cuba during the Spanish-American War. Some are amateur travel photographs and some appear to be taken with the purpose of being sold as a souvenir, featuring text.
Included are images of Havana, the coast, harbour, buildings, monuments, etc; the Red Cross Building, a U.S. hospital, a man dead on a stretcher, bullfights, and locals. Possibly a photo of Theodore Roosevent delivering the U.S. Soldiers.
Also included are an invitation, a newspaper cutout of an illustration of The Cane-bottom'd Char by W.M. Thackeray and an unidentified pressed plant leaf.

Item is a Kodak proprietary technology introduced in the 1980s for picture display and storage. It used the common CD format but functioned with prporietary software. Customers could now have image put on a CD as part of the film processing package by a photo finisher. The disc could be played by on many CD players.

Item consists of a snapshot box camera for use with 120 film. The camera body is card with a red leatherette covering. The Brownie No. 2 Model F was manufactured between April 1929 and 1933, and was available in a variety of colours, including red.

Item is an Ansco Cadet 127 roll film camera with flash unit. The design of this camera was made to compete with the Kodak Brownie Star series, including similar three-point flash contacts. The camera features an Anscar Lens and a dial to switch between black and white and colour. The body is black plastic.
Item consists of a wooden box used for black and white film developing, containing a stainless steel round metal film tank and reel for 120mm film, 2 handles for film winding that fit through holes in the box, 1 film spool, and a metal instrument. A metal spool holder is mounted to the inside of the box. To use the developing tank, the film backing paper is attached to a spindle in the wooden developing tank, along with a light-tight cover, all of which are wound onto the spindle. The spindle is then transferred to the metal developing tank to be processed.

Item is a folding field camera for exposures on 8x10 plates, manufactured by the Rochester Optical and Camera Company. Wood camera with red bellows and brass hardware. Created for advanced amateur and professional photographers, the back was reversible to allow the photographer to photograph in both landscape and portrait orientations and had adjustable tilt to account for distortion. Includes a Ross f8-64 lens.
