History

In 1877, in order to convince Henry Sandham to stay with the photography studio rather than leave and devote himself to painting, William Notman offered him a partnership. The Montreal studio was called 'Notman & Sandham' until 1882, when Sandham departed for Boston to pursue a career as a book illustrator.
