Biographical history

Hitesh Doshi is a Professor of Architectural Science in the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science at Ryerson University and, since the 1980s, an independent practicing professional engineer. Doshi earned his Bachelor of Technology from IIT Mumbai and his MASc from the University of Toronto. He joined the faculty at Ryerson in 1995. His areas of specialization include: green roofing; performance and rehabilitation of buildings and durability of building envelope components; value engineering, life cycle costing, decision theory and building economic modeling; visualization of building envelope details; and technology and teaching.

Biographical history

Douglas R. Banting received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario, his Masters of Science from the University of Guelph, and his Ph.D from the University of Western Ontario. He started at Ryerson in 1980 in the Geography Department and is still currently teaching there. Douglas Banting has published many papers and participated in various projects including acting as a co-investigator in the Urban Mapping for Metropolis (Yonge & Dundas) project for Ryerson, and as a principal investigator in the Examination of the GIS Job Skill Sets, Roles and Responsibilities for the Faculty of Arts SRC Research Grant. In 2004 the City of Toronto commissioned a team from Ryerson University - including Douglas Banting, to investigate the benefits of green roofs in Toronto. That paper was published in 2005 and became the basis for the City's Green Roof Strategy.

James Li is a professor of Civil Engineering at Ryerson University, teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in environmental engineering. Li graduated with a BASc in Civil Engineering and an MASc in Hydraulic Engineering from the University of Windsor, and a PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of Toronto. His research interests include environmental hydraulics and hydrology, urban green development, laboratory analysis of dioxins and furan, and geographic information systems.

One copy of the report co-authored by Doshi, Banting, Li, and Missios with help from Architecture Students Angela Au, Beth Anne Currie, and Michael Verrati. The report was initiated by the City of Toronto in partnership with the Ontario Centres of Excellence - Earth and Environmental Technologies. The study was undertaken by Ryerson University and funded by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Green Municipal funds.
