This Victorian self-help book, written by Samuel Smiles, was a 1869 Christmas present from Egerton Ryerson to his nephew, George S. Ryerson.
The title page is inscribed in ink with, "GS Ryerson from his uncle Egerton Dec 25th 1869". Written in the same hand on the Introduction page is, "This is the only thing Egerton Ryerson ever gave me but the lessons of this book are worth the savings of a lifetime" signed, GS Ryerson.

Physical condition
Both spine extremes are fragile with the underlying paper and cloth cover cracked and weak. The front cover has what appears to be ink spills. The binding is secure. Handle with care.
