Administrative history

The Department of English is one of the first departments to be established at the university, beginning in 1948. The faculty's English education objectives were influenced by the polytechnic and trades/business oriented vision of the institution during its early years. Early courses touched somewhat on literature review, however a stronger focus was placed upon enhancing the students grasp of grammar, spelling, and business environment writings. The Department of English has remained a staple of the Faculty of Arts ever since.

Custodial history

Scope and content

This fonds contains documents created by the Department of English. The majority of the records are administrative and academic in nature, focusing on internal correspondence, course syllabi and reading lists, budgetary information regarding the department, and faculty records. There are also a number of promotional posters and graphics created by the department to advertise their guest lectures, workshops, and the program in general. In addition, there are also several published books, primarily covering poetry and short story anthologies published by faculty members and students.
