Biografie

Harold Grant Collingwood was born on August 4, 1909, in Exeter, South Huron, Ontario and died at the age of 87 in May 1996. As a commercial photographer, Collingwood was commissioned by numerous companies namely the Mclean Hunter newsletter and Chatelaine magazine.

Geschiedenis beheer

The photographic archive was left to Robert Johnston, the nephew of the photographer Grant Collingwood and the executor of the Collingwood estate, upon the photographer's death in 1996. The material was passed to Rhea Johnston, wife of Robert Johnston, upon his death in 2011.

Bereik en inhoud

The Collingwood collection contains 35mm, 120mm and 4x5 negatives as well as prints and color slides. Grant Collingwood photographed Toronto from 1940s to 1990s. The collection consists of photographs of jazz musician, street views of Toronto, events and trade fairs, weddings, architecture and the office culture. Additionally, there are photographs of manufacturers and machinery.

An arrangement was imposed by the archivist, keeping the material in chronological order by year, but subdivided by subject matter to improve access.
