Student information questionnaires

File contains 2 surveys created and administered by students in the Hotel and Restaurant program. The first survey was given to day students at the school and concerned their drinking habits in relation to specific locations. The second survey deals specifically with The Colonial Tavern which used to be located at 201-203 Yonge Street.

Annual student awards ceremony programmes

File contains awards programmes and tickets for the annual ceremonies held in the fall. Programmes are included from the Hotel, Restaurant, Institutional Administration Department, Hospitality and Tourism Management, and the Ted Rogers School of Hospitality and Tourism Management ceremonies.

"Blurb" newsletter

"Blurb" was a newsletter put out by Ryerson's chapter of the Society of Hosts. It seems to have ended in 1973 and then was brought back in 1980 for two editions.

The Hospitality Placement Center

This file contains a 1977 Hospitality Placement Center promotional calendar and three copies of the "Job Seekers Bulletin" - one each for 1970, 1971, and 1973. The job seeker's bulletin features head shots and information about Ryerson Hospitality graduates. The class of 1970 bulletin was published in "Canadian Hotel and Restaurant Magazine" December 15, 1969 edition. These appear to be the pre-cursor to "Face of our Future" graduate publication put out by the school.

Departmental display boards

Seven oversized foamcore boards with photographs, text, and newspaper clippings on them. The boards are titled: Awards night; [Hotel students' associations]; [laboratory work]; Ryerson of the Past; The Beginning; Bake Shop 1950's; [Visitors?].

Hospitality Management Development Programme/Hospitality and Tourism Management Development seminar program

The Hospitality Management Development program began in 1982 when Ryerson began offering seminars based on restaurant and hotel simulation games. The seminars are led by industry leaders and academics. Included in the file is a brochure for the May 5-7 and May 12-14, 1983 Restaurant Management game seminar; two brochures for the 1985 Hospitality Management Development Programme seminars held from January to March of that year; and one folder with details about the Hospitality and Tourism Management Development seminar program held between March and November of 1986.

Annual Short Course for Management Personnel in the Hospitality Industry

File contains brochures for the 1966 and 1971 short courses. The 1966 course was the 9th annual one and was held November 21-22. The theme for the course was "Increasing Employee Productivity" and was led by Travis Elliott and George D. Bedell. The 1971 course was the 14th annual one and was held November 22-23. The theme was "Management Planning for Productivity". The guest lecturers were Vance A. Christian, Atid Kaplan, Douglas Snedden, George M. Horn, and A. H. Calvert.

Proposal For Curriculum Revision

This file contains Presentation of Proposal for Curriculum Revision Effective Fall 1984, presented to Academic Standards Committee. The presentation was done by the Chairman of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management William F. Lougheed. Included in the presentation is a copy of Report #55 of the Academic Standards Committee, November 1983 which recommends that the changes be implemented.

File contains a listing third-sixth semester courses offered during the 1970-1971 school year, and instructions to 2nd year students wanting to study french during the 1977-1978 school year.

Trinidad Information

File contains historical, geographical and other information about Trinidad and Tobago. Also included in the file are copies of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago's Civil Service Act, and correspondence regarding a Ryerson student study tour in Trinidad.

Staff Meetings

File contains a report and accompanying materials for staff training "You and Your Job" held November 21 and 22, 1973. Also in the file are meeting minutes from staff meetings held in 1972.

Progress reports

File contains correspondence and weekly progress reports to from W. H. Shepherd, director of the Trinidad and Tobago Hotel School, to Dr. L. S. White, Chairman of the Hotel Administration program at Ryerson.

Preliminary proposal

Chairman's copy of the preliminary proposal "A proposal re: Technical Assistance in the Development of a Trinidad and Tobago Hotel School located at Chaguaramas Bay, Trinidad". Report was submitted by Ryerson Polytechnical Institute to the Canadian International Development Agency (C.I.D.A).

Photographs

File contains photographs of the buildings and people associated with the Trinidad and Tobago Hotel School. Included are photographs of the building's exterior, interior photographs of students, staff, kitchen, dining room, hotel rooms, and some that appear to be from the school's grand opening. Also in the file is a copy of "Canada Exchange" magazine, volume 2 number 2 published by the Canadian Bureau for International Education. This edition of the magazine has an article and photographs about Ryerson's involvement in the Trinidad and Tobago Hotel School.

On-site Inspections (Korey)

File contains reports and findings from George Korey's site visits to the Trinidad and Tobago Hotel School between 1972-1974. Also included in the file are his notes and other materials relating to the 28th annual conference on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education - "Dynergy 1973 - A mandate to shape the future". The conference was held in San Diego, California August 5-8, 1973.

Official School opening

The Trinidad and Tobago Hotel School opened officially on Monday May 14, 1973. In attendance from Ryerson were Dr. George Korey, Vice President Administration and acting Dean of Business; and Dr. H. H. Yates, Vice President Academic. The file contains newspaper articles, photographs, an explanation about "Capsule Programs" offered by the school, news releases, and other materials related to the Hotel School.
