A Greater Hospital - commemorating the opening of the new extensions including the new private patients' pavilion Toronto General Hospital

A commemorative booklet "A Greater Hospital" created to celebrate the opening of the new hospital extensions at Toronto General Hospital between April 21-26, 1930. The booklet has a brief history of the hospital and information about the new buildings. Booklet includes photographs.

Warming plate

White and blue china plate with blue line and flower pattern around rim. The Wellesley Hospital coat of arms is on one side. The plate is inset into a silver dish with spout for adding hot water to. Silver dish also has handles.

Ceramic tile from fireplace

Green bordered ceramic tile that is sectioned into 4 quarters. Each smaller square has a different plant or flower on it - shamrock, thistle, rose, and a leaves. Tile is supposed to represent flora of the British Isles - shamrock = Irelend; Rose = England; thistle = Scotland; and the leaves.
Tiles were used around the fireplaces in the original hospital rooms in Wellesley's "Homewood" building. This tile was taken from the fireplace in room 20. A green felt backing has been added to the tile.

Trophy

Small silver cup style trophy. Cup is silver and bottom is painted metal. Handles are on either side of the cup with twining patterned band around top of cup. Front has been engraved "For the Best Nurses in Toronto Christmas 1936 J. R. T."

Nurses leaving convocation ceremony

Two copies of a photograph of the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing class of 1967 leaving down the centre aisle of St. Paul's Church after the graduation ceremony. The pews and front of the cathedral are visible with Nursing director Dorothy Arnot, and Assistant director of Nursing education Dorothy Eden standing in the middle of the stage at the front.

Photograph of a man's arm and hand resting on the waist of a woman in a nurses uniform. Nursing students were not allowed to marry without the Nursing director's permission, and only in the last 6 months of their training. Photograph taken during graduation events for the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing. Apparently several members of the class of 1971 married during their last year of training. Photograph published in the Wellesley World magazine, Winter 1971 edition.

Jones, former long serving director of the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing) is holding a teacup in her lap and shaking hands with Mrs. Evelyn Jolley, Wellesley class of 1937. Mrs. Jolley was also the head of the Alumnae Association at that time. Photograph was published in the Winter 1971 edition of the Wellesley World magazine.

The mother - daughter tea was part of graduation week for the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing class of 1972B and was held at Prince Arthur House. Photograph was used in the Fall issue of the Wellesley World newsletter put out by the hospital.
