The National Arts Centre received the 1971 Design Canada Concrete Awards Program Award of Excellence: "A fine concept on a difficult and restrictive site...splendid functional and space planning with a pleasing relationship to people...an outstanding example of in-situ and precast concrete work used together structurally and as a cladding."

Images of the reception area show a ceramic mural by Angelo di Petta called Canadian Allegory. This mural is made of 84 tiles which will cover the entire third floor lobby wall.
