Medals

File contains Canadian (British) and American World War I and II medals. Some were awarded to Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing class of 1915 alumnus Willmina Ferguson and the others were donated by her family to the Archives.

Certificate of appreciation - Elsie K. Jones

Framed certificate of appreciation granted to Elsie K. Jones upon her retirement from Wellesley's School of Nursing in 1964. It reads as follows:

Graduating class of 1975 photographs

File contains photographs of the graduating class of 1975 of the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing. Included are the class composite, and photographs of the ceremony. This is the last year the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing graduated a class. The school amalgamated with Ryerson Polytechnical Institute's nursing program in 1973 (along with those of Sick Children's Hospital and Women's College Hospital). The graduation ceremony was held on June 2 and included the last classes from all three schools.

Graduation, 1959

File contains an invitation to the graduation exercises on May 28, 1959 at the Sherborne United Church, and two copies of the the superintendent's report given as an address at the graduation ceremony. Report contains information about the school and the hospital.

Graduation, 1964

File contains materials relating to the Class of 1964 graduation from the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing. Included in the file are a copy of the superintendent's report given during the ceremony, one invitation to the graduation reception, and one invitation to the graduation ceremony.

Graduation, 1969

File contains materials relating to the Class of 1969 graduation from the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing. Included in the file is one copy of the valedictory speech, three ceremony programs, three ceremony invitations, one invitation to the graduation breakfast, two copies of the speech given by Canadian Oil Companies Ltd. president W. Harold Rea (whose daughter graduated from Wellesley in 1963), an assortment of correspondence and memos relating to graduation.

File contains materials relating to the Class of 1971 graduation from the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing. Included in the file are one invitation to the graduation breakfast, two copies of the invitation to the graduation ceremony, two copies of the ceremony program - one official and the other an oversize unbound copy, a copy of the valedictory speech, and one copy of the working copy of the ceremony invitation.

Graduation, 1972A and 1972B

File contains materials relataing to the graduation of both the Class of 1972A on June 22, 1972 and the Class of 1972B on September 7, 1972.
For the Class of 1972A, the file contains two invitations to the graduation breakfast, two ceremony invitations, one invitation to the graduation tea, one ceremony invitation mock-up, and one copy of the ceremony program.
For the Class of 1972B, the file contains two copies of the ceremony program, one copy of the graduation breakfast invitation, and two copies of the ceremony invitation.
Also included in the file are various memos and correspondence about the ceremonies.

Graduation, 1974

File contains materials relating to the Class of 1974 graduation from the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing. This was considered the "last" Wellesley class graduation - although there was a 1975 graduation for the students that joined Wellesley in 1972. Included in the file are three copies of the ceremony program, one invitation to the Class of 1974 tea, one name plate, three copies of the ceremony invitation, two invitations to the graduation breakfast, one special guest instruction card, one copy of the graduation speech of Carol Whiting - Acting Principal of the Wellesley School of Nursing, three copies of G. E. Thornton's, Director of the Wellesley Hospital, speech, a news clipping fromt the Toronto Star about the graduation, and memos and correspondence in regards to convocation.

25th anniversary - 1937

The 25th anniversary of the founding of The Wellesley Hospital and The Wellesley Hospital Alumnae Association's celebrations were held June 28 - July 2, 1937. Events included a luncheon at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, bridge and dance at the Royal York Hotel, a banquet at the King Edward Hotel, a reception at Government House hosted by Lieutenant-Governor Herbert Bruce (hospital founder), Class of 1937 graduation exercises, and a picnic and swimming at Dr. R. J. MacMillan's farm.
The file includes one souvenir booklet, two reunion banquet programmes, and an invitation to the reception hosted by Herbert and Angela Bruce at Government House. There is also a 16mm film of the Hospital's Anniversary activities.

Miscellaneous photographs

File contains a series of miscellaneous photographs. Three of the prints are of a spread of nursing magazines; one is of an "Innovations in Nursing" display in the hospital's front lobby; one is a composite with the central image of the nurses choir with smaller images of older people; and the final photograph is of six children in the yard of a house.

Hospital information

File contains brochures created to give the reader information about the hospital as a whole. Included are four brochures from 1967 designed to be a "tour" of the hospital, and brochures from 1976, 1976, and 1988 that would have been given to people coming to The Wellesley for treatment.

Twenty-five Year club

File contains programs for the Hospital's 25 year club celebrations. First introduced in 1969, the dinner has been held almost every year since then. Included are two programs from the May 9, 1988 dinner held at the Four Season's Hotel, one from the May 4, 1993 event also held at the Four Season's hotel, and one from the September 30, 1997 dinner held at The King Edward Hotel.

Report of the Nursing Task Force at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute

The Nursing Task Force at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute was organized in response to the January 1973 memorandum regarding the integration of Hospital School's of Nursing into Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology. The task force formed in July of 1973. Ryerson Vice President Administration George Korey was the chairman and was composted of representatives all institutions involved. It's purpose was to guide the integration of the nursing schools from The Wellesley Hospital, Sick Children's Hospital, and Women's College Hospital into Ryerson's nursing program. Three working committees were established: Committee on Curriculum and Clinical Facilities; Committee on Teacher-student Affairs and Internal Resources; and Administrative and Finance Committee all overseen by an executive committee.
File contains a copy of the final report of the task force published in January of 1974, and one copy of appendix f - Nursing Task Force meeting minutes.

1967 Winter formal

File contains photographs and contact sheet of photographs from the Nursing Winter Formal. Included is a photograph of four couples posing in front of pillars on an ornate balcony. The other photograph is of four Wellesley Nursing students holding the Canadian Centennial maple leaf logo. This photograph was published as the front cover of The Wellesley World, the hospital's newsletter/magazine.

Alumnae World War II scrapbook pages 55-56

Two page typewritten letter from Jean Wood, secretary-treasurer of the Toronto Branch of the British Minesweepers Auxiliary. The letter thanks Grace Bolton and the Alumnae for the knitting they have done since Aug. 4, 1943, listing all the items contributed. It also thanks them for sending money to cover the wool provided by the auxiliary for the projects.

Picadilly Night, 1973

Two photographs from "Picadilly Night". Picadilly night was an annual event held in the cafeteria by the Student Nurses to raise money for student scholarships. One photograph shows three women tickets at Picadilly Night 1973. The second photograph shows two student nurses looking at a pillow cover at Picadilly Night, 1974. Photograph published in the January 1974 Wellesley World magazine.

Province of Ontario - Department of Health Inspector of Training Schools - Nurse Registration branch report, 1935-1936

The 1935-1936 Wellesley Training School report compiled by Gertrude Ross, Superintendent of the School for the Department of Health, Nurse Registration branch. Also included is a copy of the report by the Assistant Inspector for the Department of Health.

Province of Ontario - Department of Health Nurses Registration division report, 1953

The 1953 Wellesley Division -Toronto General Hospital report compiled by Elsie K. Jones, Superintendent of the School for the Department of Health, Nurse Registration division. Also included in the file are supplementary materials regarding hospital policy, books etc used to create the report.

College of Nurses of Ontario annual report, and Hospital Board of Directors annual report, 1964-1965

The College of Nurses of Ontario 1964-1965 annual report completed by Dorothy Arnot, Director of the Wellesley School of Nursing. Also included are two copies of the annual report created for the Wellesley Hospital Board of Directors, and the Canadian Nurses' Association questionnaire about students from diploma schools of nursing.

Scholarship and award recipients

File contains photographs of Wellesley Alumnae being awarded the Elisabeth Flaws Memorial Scholarship of the Elsie K. Jones LaVenture memorial fund. The Elisabeth Flaws scholarship was available to alumnae members who are actively involved in the affairs of the Association and are taking post graduate studies in nursing at the degree level. The Elsie K. Jones fund was available to registered nurses on staff at the Wellesley for a minimum of one year and are taking short term course in graduate studies. This fund required a one year service commitment to the Wellesley are completing the course.

Spring dinner, 1978

File contains photographs taken at the Alumnae association's May dinner held at The Town Inn. Elaine Hykawy, the Nursing consultant for the Ministry of Health was the guest speaker. The Class of 1938 celebrated its 40th anniversary, and the class of 1968 celebrated their 10th anniversary at the dinner. Two of the photographs were published in the September 1978 Wellesley World magazine.

1980s

File contains magazines printed in the 1980s. In Fall 1982 the magazine switched back to a glossy magazine style.

The Wellesley Hospital

Nurses' week

File contains photographs related to Nurses' Week and Wellesley Hospital. The majority of the photographs relate to Nurses' Week 1984 held May 1 - 7. There is a photograph of an informational display about nurses and 3 photographs of drawings submitted to the poster contest sponsored by the Ontario Nurses Association for children of Wellesley staff. The photographs of the contest winners were published in the July 1984 edition of Lion's Tale staff newsletter.
The other two photographs are of a drawing from the 1985 Nurses' Week poster contest; and a photograph of a Nurse modelling in the fashion show that was part of the 1986 Nurses' Week events (Published in the August 1986 edition of Lion's Tale).

The Wellesley Hospital Medical and Research Centre events

The Wellesley Hospital Medical and Research Centre began construction in 1964, with the demolition of the original Hospital Building "Homewood". The cornerstone laying ceremony was held Wednesday May 19, 1965. The building was officially opened October 10, 1967.
File contains invitations and programs for the cornerstone laying ceremony and the official opening of the building.
