Human Resources Orientation for Chairs

John Cowan of Queen's University was keynote speaker at the orientation session for chairs, who are central to achieving the mission of the university, The orientation called for a lot of interaction among chairs, something that typically dosesn't happen in the course of the school year. Dr. Dewson commended Larissa Allen and Sandy Schwartz of Human Resources for organizing the orientation. Article appeared in Forum, September 12, 1997 "Orienting chairs'.

Career Fair

Companies and Banks such as Bell Canada, Sun Life, Canada Trust and Ford Canada were on campus recruiting and head hunting students.

J. Stuart Mackay Award (Lombardi)

John Barba-Linardo Lambardi, president and CEO of CHIN Radio/TV International was named 1997 reicipient of the J. Stuart MacKay Communicator of the Year Award. The award presentation was made at the Rogers Communication Centre by President Calud Lajeunesse. Toronto Mayor Barbara Hall thanked the MacKay family and congratulated Mr. Lombardi on his award. Forum, April 11, 1997 "Johnny Lomardi honored with Mackay Award".

Architecture - Rooftop Gardens

Third-year Landscape Architecture students at Ryerson Polytechnic University have created eight rooftop garden designs and models for their "cilent", the Maurice Cody Public School of Toronto. The Toronto Board of Education's Greening Schools Program started in 1993 was to provide a set of guidelines to encourage schools to tie their curriculum to the progam's seven areas.

Security - phones in Quad

A new safety device in the Ryerson quad provides direct communication to the security desk in Jorgenson Hall. Director of Equity and Harassment Services Jane Mays said the device, "moves us so much forward in communicatin and safety on campus". Career accelerator cheque presentation

Canadian Women in Communications/Roger's "Career Accelerator" cheque presentation is a one week seminar for members of the group "Canadian Women in Communications" (CWC). In order to qualify applicants had to have a minimum of five years experience working in radio broadcasting. At the cheque presentation ceremony Stephanie McKendrick - CWC President, Pamela Wallin - CWC Board Member, Laura Nixon - CFO of Rogers, Dr. Ira Levine, Dr. Robert Gardner, Jerry Good (RTA Head of Audio and the person responsible for spearheading this project) and Claude Lajuenesse.

Included are a photograph of the marble Ryerson bust, a copy of a photograph of Egerton Ryerson from the 1850s, two photographs from Egerton Ryerson's 177th birthday party March 24, 1980, and a photograph from the Heritage Day reception March 24, 1982. Also included are many photographs of the Egerton Ryerson statue on Gould Street.

Transit strike

File contains 2 photographs of bicycles on campus because of the transit strike. One photograph shows the bikes locked to the Podium building 2nd floor railing. The other shows bikes locked to the railing in front of the Library building along Gould Street.

Gold Medal: Isadore Sharp Outstanding Recent Graduate

One gold plated medal with the Ryerson crest and "Ryerson Polytechnic University" on one side and a side view of Isadore Sharp and "The Isadore Sharp Outstanding Recent Graduate Medal RYERSON" on the other.
The Isadore Sharp outstanding recent graduate medal is awarded to an alumnus who has within 10 years of graduation brought honour to Ryerson and achieved distinction in their professional life.

Ryerson Today

Effective October 19, 2009 Ryerson Today - an e-publication put out by the Marketing and Communications department of University Advancement - will replace the current Forum Online (RG 395.6), President's Newsletter (RG 12.146), Campus News (RG 395.84), and Infoline (RG 395.22).
As of November 12, 2012 Ryerson Today established a new format and will no longer be printed for our collection as a whole. Pertinent newstories and letters from the President etc. will continue to be printed as they appear.

Photographic assignments

Series contains images taken by University Advancement photographers. They cover a wide range of subjects including campus events, staff and faculty portraits, donor receptions and building demolition and construction. A majority of the images were taken for the purpose of publication in the University Advancement publication "The Forum".

Photographs were taken on the day of the unveiling (May 28, 2001) as well as some taken two days previous (May 26, 2001).

Athletics luncheon

BOMA donation - signing ceremony

File contains photographs of the signing and ceremony of BOMA (Building Owners and Managers Association) donating $100,000.00 to create an annual awards program that assists four business management students each year.

File contains photographs of architect Mr. Santiago Calatrava. Mr. Calatrava proposed a design for the new Centre for Computing and Engineering. This project was never realized.

Irene Campagna

File contains photographs of Irene Campagna, assistant to the Dean of Business. The photographs were taken for the former Ryerson publication "FORUM" and were published in the December 2003 edition.

Christmas sing-a-long

File contains photographs taken during Ryerson's annual Christmas carol sing-a-long. Event takes place around tree in the front lobby of Jorgenson Hall. Pictures feature Santa Claus and various staff, faculty, and community members.

Continuing Education booth - Sheraton Hotel

File contains photographs of Continuing Education's booth at the Sheraton Hotel. Booth part of the University Continuing Education Association's annual conference. Pictured at the booth are the dean of Continuing Education Marilyn Booth; database and digital services administrator Thom Boivin; manager of marketing and publications Janet Hercz; and associate director Amy Casey. Booth won the association's gold award for excellence in marketing and publications and the New York Times best of show award. One of the pictures was published in the July 2002 FORUM.

Gordon Cressy farewell

File contains photographs taken during a farewell celebration for former Ryerson Vice President, University Advancement Gordon Cressy. Featured in the photos are then president Claude Lajeunesse, then Chancellor John Craig Eaton, and Gordon Cressy.

Entrepreneur alumni night - Allan Slaight

File contains photographs taken at entreneur alumni night. Speaker was Allan Slaight of Slaight Communications. Mr. Slaight donated money to Ryerson University to support the Start Me Up Ryerson student business plan competition at the Ted Rogers School of Management.

Fairchild Media Group donation and tour

File contains photographs taken during the tour and donation announcement by Fairchild Media Group. They donated $30 000 to create the Fairchild Public Affairs Award to benefit RTA students who demonstrate an awareness and understanding of ethnic, social or political issues. Two scholarships of $3000 each are to be awarded annually. Pictured are RTA professor Jerry Good; then acting RTA chair Robert Gardner; Fairchild Radio Station manager Gary Nobody; and Fairhchild chief operating officer Calvin Wong. One picture was published in the February 2001 edition of the FORUM.

High performance computing virtual laboratory (HPCVL) ceremony

File contains photographs taken of the opening of Ryerson's high performance computing virtual laboratory. Ryerson's lab is the Toronto nodule of a consortium of colleges and universities including Queen's University, Royal Military College, St. Lawrence College, Carlton University, University of Ottawa, Ryerson University, Seneca College, and Loyalist College. Computers donated by Sun Microsystems.

Rogers Communication Centre groundbreaking and opening

File contains photographs taken of the groundbreaking of the Rogers Communication Centre on November 15, 1989. Included in those images is Ryerson President Terry Grier and Ted and Loretta Rogers. Ted Rogers' Donation

File contains photographs taken during the reception for Ted and Loretta Rogers in the Rogers Communication Centre. Reception held in honour of their $10 million leadership gift to establish the Edward S. Rogers Sr. Graduate School for Advanced Communication at Ryerson. The gift will endow 6 graduate fellowships and 2 research chairs. Included in the photographs are Ted and Loretta Rogers; Ryerson president Claude Lajeunesse; and artifacts to be placed in a time capsule. One of the images was published in the October 2000 edition of the FORUM.

Ted Rogers' leadership gift signing and press conference

File contains photographs taken at the donation signing and press conference for Ted and Loretta Rogers' donation of $10 million to Ryerson and $25 million to the University of Toronto. Event took place at the University of Toronto. Ryerson's donation went towards founding the Edward S. Rogers Sr. Graduate School of Advanced Communications. The money will fund graduate fellowships and research chairs within the school. The University of Toronto donation was to fund scholarships, research chairs and labs. The University named the department of Electrical and Computer engineering after Edward S. Rogers.
