Alumnae Association sous-fonds

The Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Association was created in 1915 after the graduation of its first class of 10 graduates.
The sous-fonds contains materials created by the Alumnae Association and its executive or by members. Included are photographs, scrapbooks, artifacts, audio-visual materials, newsletters and other items that document the Alumnae Association, its activities, and its members.

Silver coffee urn

Large ornate silver coffee urn with spigot. Embellished handles with pine cone lid grip. Engraved on one side "Presented to the Wellesley Hospital Alumnae by Dr. and Mrs. Herbert Bruce, June 1951". Dr. Herbert Bruce was the founder of the Wellesley Hospital and would go on to become the Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario between 1932-1937.

Silver teapot and stand

Ornate silver teapot and stand. The teapot has attached lid and filagree all over the body of the pot. Four arms on pot sides to rest it on the stand. Teapot stand has ornate supports and an opening in its base for a candle to keep the tea warm.

Front of page 12 has a typewritten list of items placed in the boxes sent to Nursing Sisters in England. Box recipients were R. Adams, A. Dalrymple Ironside, D. Lodge, J. Mecredy, H. Leonard Cuddy, M. Henry, K. Fisher, E. Moore. Boxes were ordered from the T. Eaton Company. Bottom of page shows costs of items, and shipping.

Two page typewritten letter from Jean Wood, secretary-treasurer of the Toronto Branch of the British Minesweepers Auxiliary. The letter thanks Grace Bolton and the Alumnae for the knitting they have done since Aug. 4, 1943, listing all the items contributed. It also thanks them for sending money to cover the wool provided by the auxiliary for the projects.

Doney, former director of first aid for the Canadian Red Cross and his funeral. The third clipping is an obituary for Wellesley Class of 1922 graduate Adrina Caldwell.

Photograph of seven alumnae standing with Arnold Edinborough (not Edinburgh as identified). Arnold Edinborough spoke at the dinner about creative worlds available to the Canadian public. He was an author, amongst other things, and heavily involved in the arts scene in Canada.

Class of 1925 and others

Sepia toned photograph of 12 members of the class of 1925 taken at the 1937 reunion and 25th Anniversary of the Hospital celebrations. In the photograph. Included with the photograph is a piece of paper indicating the people in the photograph and the ones missing from it as well.

25th anniversary - 1937

The 25th anniversary of the founding of The Wellesley Hospital and The Wellesley Hospital Alumnae Association's celebrations were held June 28 - July 2, 1937. Events included a luncheon at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, bridge and dance at the Royal York Hotel, a banquet at the King Edward Hotel, a reception at Government House hosted by Lieutenant-Governor Herbert Bruce (hospital founder), Class of 1937 graduation exercises, and a picnic and swimming at Dr. R. J. MacMillan's farm.
The file includes one souvenir booklet, two reunion banquet programmes, and an invitation to the reception hosted by Herbert and Angela Bruce at Government House. There is also a 16mm film of the Hospital's Anniversary activities.

Elisabeth Flaws and Elsie K. Jones scholarship award winners

A letter sized piece of paper and an oversized poster listing the names of winners of the Elisabeth Flaws scholarship and the Elsie K. Jones Scholarship.
The letter sized listing lists winners, in black ink calligraphy, between 1940 and 1985.
The poster lists winners, in black black ink calligraphy, between 1940 and 1991. It also notes that awards were not handed out in 1987, 1989, 1992, and 1993.

Series contains published materials created by or about the Wellesley Hospital. Included in the series are 2 copies of the book written by Hospital founder Dr. Herbert Bruce, 2 copies of the Wellesley Hospital history book written by Joan Hollobon, and numerous magazines and newsletters written by Wellesley Hospital for the staff and the general public.

Wellesley World magazine

Series consists of copies of the Wellesley World magazine created the the Wellesley Hospital with news and stories about the Hospital, its, staff, and its auxiliary. Also included in the magazine was a page called "The Lion's Roar" which featured news and information from the Wellesley School of Nursing Alumnae Association. The magazine was published four times yearly.
