Architecture - Designing for Shade

Dr. Lynn, a dermatologist and pathologist, and George Kapelos, Chair of the Department of Architectural Science at Ryerson University, initiated the idea for Designing for Shade by consolidating years of discussions regarding the possible applications of architecture as preventative medicine for skin cancer and how to influence public policy makers to adopt these medical and design solutions. Included are images of the weekend-long charrette in June 2003 as part of the Designing for Shade conference.

Architecture - Rooftop Gardens

Third-year Landscape Architecture students at Ryerson Polytechnic University have created eight rooftop garden designs and models for their "cilent", the Maurice Cody Public School of Toronto. The Toronto Board of Education's Greening Schools Program started in 1993 was to provide a set of guidelines to encourage schools to tie their curriculum to the progam's seven areas.

Architecture - Rooftop Gardens display

Landscape Architecture students displayed eight rooftop garden designs draw up for their client, Maurice Cody Public School in the artrium of the Architecture Building. Working with the Toronto school's 500 sutents and teachers, the third-year Ryerson Students designed plans and models for environmentally-firendly rooftop garden to be built at the school. Architecture Grad - Greg Papp

Greg Papp an Architectural Science grad on the Dean's List set to graduate from Ryerson in 1997. Left paralized from a mountain bike accident, through his determination he was able to finish his program. A page taken from Forum July 1997 page 6 entitled "Beating the odds".

BOMA donation - signing ceremony

File contains photographs of the signing and ceremony of BOMA (Building Owners and Managers Association) donating $100,000.00 to create an annual awards program that assists four business management students each year.

Baskeball - Raptors Youth Clinic

Leo Rautins and Damon Stoudamire hosts a free youth basketball clinic in West Kerr Hall Gymnasiim for children ages 7-15. Their focus is to try and teach the kids to stay in school and stay away from drugs. Speedy Mufflier King Inc. and Toronto Raptors Basketball Club Inc. are partners in this free clinic. From Forum Sept. 12, 1997 a picture of Damon Stoudamire presenting a basketball to one of the 700 children attending the free youth basketball clinic.

Basketball practice

File contains photographs taken during Ryerson Rams men's basketball team practice in the Kerr Hall gym. Practice is last one before the team left for Halifax to participate in the national finals. One photograph from this file was published in the FORUM on March 29, 1999. Included in the file is a photocopy of this image.

File contains photographs taken during the Young Professional Board of Trade dinner. They include photographs of speeches and group shots of members.

Bookstore and Victoria Street parking garage

File contains photographs the Ryerson Bookstore and Victoria Street parking garage. Included are photographs of architectural renderings, construction of the building and completed interior and exterior shots. Also included are photographs of the Ryerson Engineering Mech Force 10 prank. The group pulled a VW bug shell up the side of the parking garage.

Bridge Building Competition (Civil/Architect)

Model bridges built by Ryerson architecture and engineering students were put to the test in the university's annual competition February 19. The 34 bridges, built with only popsicle sticks, white glue and dental floss were tested for their resistance to various weights to the point of collapse. Bridge building

File contains photographs of Ryerson's annual Civil Engineering bridge building competition. Included are images of various bridges made from popsicle sticks being tested for strength. Also included in the photographs are shots of the big cheque won by a Ryerson team last year in the national Troitsky bridge building competition at Concordia University.

Bridge busting

File contains photographs taken at the annual Civil Engineering bridge building competition. Included are images of bridge construction and demolition. Winners of this competition get to travel to Concordia University in Montreal and participate in the Troitsky bridge building competition. One of the photographs was published in the FORUM in March 2002.

Bring Your Kids to Work Day

Bruce Elder research grant

File contains photographs taken during and after a talk given by Ryerson Image Arts professor Bruce Elder. Bruce Elder was the co-winner of the 2000 Sarwan Sahota Distinguished Scholar Award and gave the talk as part of a series sponsered by the Office of Research Services. Pictures include shots of the lecture and group shots that include then dean of Communication and Design Ira Levine, Bruce Elder, then acting dean of Graduate Studies Rena Mendelson, then acting associate Vice President Academic Judith Sandys, and co-director of the Communication and Culture graduate program Don Gillies. One of the photographs was published in the April 2001 edition of the FORUM.

Business Management - Link program

File contains two photographs taken at the Link program open house for Ryerson first year Business students. The Link program was a pilot program to equip 80 business students with laptops - helping to make them more adept at information skills. One of the photographs was published in the September 6, 1996 edition of the FORUM newsletter.

Business Management - Niche Masters Speakers Series

Alon Ozery founder of Pita Brak was a guest lecturer on campus. A 1996 graduate of Hospitality and Tourism Management he addressed students as part of the Niche Masters Speakers Series, developed by Business Professor, David Schlanger. Forum March 8, 1999. "Succesful grads return to class".
