The Saint John Project: The National Film Board of Canada's "Challenge for Change" Program Revisited

Contained in a University of Colorado paper folder is an abstract and attached paper "The Saint John Project: The National Film Board of Canada's "Challenge for Change" Program Revisited" by Robert Scott. The paper was presented at the McBride Round Table in Communication conference - Global Media and Global Responsibility: A Time to Choose. The round table was held at the University of Colourado, Boulder October 1-2, 1997. Also in folder are conference details, a list of other places Robert Scott presented about the Saint John project, and background articles about the project.

The Radioptican

Black with gold-trim picture and postcard consumer projector with adjustable telescopic lens. This model has two chimneys and two electric bulb fixtures. The Radioptican originally was made by the H. C. White Company of North Bennington, Vermont, that initially manufactured stereoscopes. In about 1915, the Keystone View Company took over production of the Radioptican, which continued to be widely used for educational purposes.

Item is a clear glass tray for developing photographic prints. A removable glass dowel holds the paper down so it remains inmmersed in the chemical solutions. Sold by the E. & H.T. Anthony company in New York.

Item is a postcard reproduction of Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper painting made with the Xograph three-dimensional printing process, a proprietary lenticular process in which parallel strips create the illusion of three dimensions when looking at the image from different angles. This card is part of the 3-D Collector Series published by the Manhattan Post Card Publishing Co.

Item consists of a Playbill program for the production of the Jean Anouilh play The Lark at the Longacre Theatre. The play starred Julie Harris, Christopher Plummer, and Boris Karloff. Newspaper photographs of the production are tipped into the program throughout.

The Kodak Photo CD press conference, New York City

Item is a VHS recording of the live press announcement of the Kodak Photo CD System, which was held at the Marriot Marquis in New York City on August 25th, 1992. The event included an outline of the products involved in the system and was hosted by David J Mels (Senior Vice President and Director of Communications and Public Affairs) and Kay R. Whitmore (Chairman, President and Cheif Executive Officer).

Item is a manual for a Kodak Instant picture camera, which resulted in Polaroid launching a patent-inringement lawsuit in 1976, which Kodak eventually lost in 1985. Kodak instant cameras were recalled and customers were offered a replacement camera or $50.00 in Kodak stock.

Item is a rangefinder snapshot camera for instant photographs using Kodak's proprietary instant print film. This model was part of a series that was Kodak's response to the successful instant cameras produced by Polaroid. A patent infringement case was brought against Kodak by Polaroid in 1977 and was finally settled in 1986, in Polaroid's favour. Kodak recalled all their instant cameras, offering customers a new camera or a rebate in exchange.
