Also included in the file is a photograph of former Ryerson Presidents Walter Pitman, and Brian Segal, Ryerson President Terry Grier and David Crombie taken after before or after the ceremony on June 15 where David Crombie was installed as Ryerson's first chancellor. Ryerson was also presented with the Kerr Memorial Mace during that same ceremony.

File contains a photograph of Ryerson Administration and Information Management graduate Alva Alvear buying a hot dog from Ernie's Hotdog emporium at Lake Devo. The photograph was published in the July 7, 1989 edition of the FORUM newsletter.

Continuing Education

File contains photographs relating the the School of Continuing Education. Included are photographs of Family Life Education certificate recipients; Mary McDougall Maude and Rosemary Shipton with the Publishing Certificate course; Life Institute members including former Architecture professor Pam Hitchcock; and Act II Studios production about living with cancer. There are other photographs in the file that are not identified.

Student Residences - Pitman Hall and ILLC

File contains photographs of Pitman Hall - exterior, interior, and construction and the International Living/Learning Centre exterior. Also included in the file are drawings of the exterior, a floor plan, and a room sketch for Pitman Hall.

Student Centre plan unveiling

File contains photographs taken in October 1991 at the unveiling of the plans for the Student Centre on Gould Street. Included are photographs of the architectural model, an architectural rendering, and photographs from the unveiling. In the photographs are President Terry Grier, and two former RSU presidents Mark Lemieux and Janet Piper. Also included in the file is a line drawing of proposed building. Photograph published in the October 25, 1991 FORUM.

Audrey Cohn-Sandler reading room

File contains photographs taken of the Audrey Cohn-Sandler reading room that opened on November 19th on the 6th floor of the Learning Resources Centre. There are photographs of people in the reading room and photographs of the memorial plaque.

Ryerson Community Park phase II

File contains photograph from the official opening on June 14, 1984 of the second phase of Ryerson Community Park. The Park was where the patio of the Ram in Rye campus pub is now located. In the photograph are Bill Cochrane, Chairman of the Alumni Fundraising and Board of Governors member; Bob Knox, Vice President of Public Affairs for Sears Canada; William Pattison, Chairmen of Ryerson's Board of Governors; Art Eggleton, Mayor of Toronto; and Reuben Baetz, Minister of Tourism and Recreation. They are posing beside the commemorative plaque.

Lake Devonian

File contains photographs taken of Lake Devonian (Lake Devo). Included are winter photographs showing pleasure skating (perhaps general public) and Winter Carnival activities of broom ball and tug-of-war. Also included are images of people relaxing in and around the pond in the Spring.

Toronto Normal School class of 1924 60th Annivesary reunion

File contains two photographs taken by Chris Bell of the 60th anniversary reunion of the Toronto Normal School's graduating class of 1924. One photograph is a group photo of the 60 + attendees at the reunion and one is of the reunion organizers - Perry Malcolm and Dr. Archie Ritter. The reunion attendees had luncheon in Jorgenson Hall, were given a campus tour, and had a presentation by former Archivist Jim Peters.
The photograph of the two reunion organizers was published in the June 1, 1984 edition of the FORUM newsletter.

"Dialogue with the Giants" Journalism conference

File contains photographs taken by Ryerson employee Jerry Davey at the "Dialogue with the Giants" journalism conference at Ryerson. Included in the photographs are the big name newspeople including Richard Gwyn, Barbara Amiel, Allan Fotheringham, Sydney Gruson, Jeffrey Simpson, Peter Jennings, Peter Mansbridge, Morley Safer, Robert MacNeill, Barbara Frum, Henry Champ, and Peter Gzowski. The event raised money, through ticket sales, for the Committee for the Protection of Journalists, an international organization the helps journalists who face imprisonment abroad.
Photographs are of the panel discussions and one group photograph of all the participants.

Davey, Jerry

Journalism Building

File contains photographs of the former Archdiocese of Toronto Chancery building at 55 Gould Street. Starting in 1979, Ryerson rented the space to house the School of Journalism. They remained in this location until the early 1990s when the School moved into the Rogers Communications Centre. Also in the file is a picture of the Journalism newsroom in the new location.

Bookstore and Victoria Street parking garage

File contains photographs the Ryerson Bookstore and Victoria Street parking garage. Included are photographs of architectural renderings, construction of the building and completed interior and exterior shots. Also included are photographs of the Ryerson Engineering Mech Force 10 prank. The group pulled a VW bug shell up the side of the parking garage.

Ryerson Athletic Centre (RAC)

File contains photographs of the Ryerson Athletic Centre (RAC) located in the Kerr Hall Quad. Included are photographs of architectural renderings and the model; construction; empty interiors; and activities taking place in the RAC.

Business Management - Link program

File contains two photographs taken at the Link program open house for Ryerson first year Business students. The Link program was a pilot program to equip 80 business students with laptops - helping to make them more adept at information skills. One of the photographs was published in the September 6, 1996 edition of the FORUM newsletter.

Ryerson University Archives

File contains photographs of the Ryerson Archives rooms, staff, displays, and items from its collections. Included are photographs of Jim Peters and the Archives room; Claude Doucet and the Ryerson Family papers; Claude Doucet and Peter Ryerson with the Egerton Ryerson portrait he donated; Archives bicentennial display; Copies of photographs from RG 95.1 of various campus activities; and photographs of pages from the Ryerson Family papers.

Applied Geography

File contains photographs related to Ryerson's Applied Geography program. Included are photographs taken in the classroom, a photograph of the grand opening of the GIS lab in 1994, and a photograph of Applied Geography and CSCA (Centre for the Study of Commercial Activities).

CATE [Centre for Advanced Technology Education

File contains photographs of the Centre for Advanced Technology Education. The building was a 2 storey addition to the exisiting Eric Palin Hall located at 87 Gerrard St. East. Included are exterior photographs of architectural renderings, construction and the completed addition.

Terry Grier

File contains a variety of photographs of Terry Grier. Photographs included are from convocation; his installation as president; dinner honouring Terry Grier's stepping down as president; Phantom of the Opera fundraiser; RCC sod turning; celebration of university status; and Ted Roger's gift to University. Also included are a large number of head shots.

Image Arts - Kino Flo Demo (Hochleim)

Frieder Hocheim the Photographic Arts alumnus visited Ryerson to donate three sets of the revolutionary lighting system for which he won an Oscar in 1995.The Kino Flo motion picture set lighting systems ("Kino" is German for cinema and "flo" is short for fluorescent) "Oscar-winning grad lights up Hollywood" from Forum, November 24, 1997.

Kapuskasing native Allan Measor has been named winner of the D.H. Craighead Trophy at Ryerson Polytechnic Unversity for his accomplishments on the badminton and squash courts.

Figure skater Mary Beth Moellenkamp of Mississauga was named the female Rookie of the Year at Ryerson Polytechnic University.

Bridge Building Competition (Civil/Architect)

Model bridges built by Ryerson architecture and engineering students were put to the test in the university's annual competition February 19. The 34 bridges, built with only popsicle sticks, white glue and dental floss were tested for their resistance to various weights to the point of collapse. Athletics luncheon

Ryerson athletics 1997-98 held a luncheon on April 12, 1998. The luncheon was to honour their achievements for that year.

Career accelerator cheque presentation

Canadian Women in Communications/Roger's "Career Accelerator" cheque presentation is a one week seminar for members of the group "Canadian Women in Communications" (CWC). In order to qualify applicants had to have a minimum of five years experience working in radio broadcasting. At the cheque presentation ceremony Stephanie McKendrick - CWC President, Pamela Wallin - CWC Board Member, Laura Nixon - CFO of Rogers, Dr. Ira Levine, Dr. Robert Gardner, Jerry Good (RTA Head of Audio and the person responsible for spearheading this project) and Claude Lajuenesse.

Positive Space Campaign

Lesbian and Gay positive space a campaign endorsed by Wendy Roberts and a fourth year Social Work student. Wendy Roberts co-ordinator of harrassment Prevention Services (HPS) which is overseeing the campaign. Posting a sticker should mean that "you are supportive in a general way" "are comfortable being with and talking with people whose sexual orientation may not share" and that " you are prepared to challenge homophobic and stereotypical talk, even if said in jest." Exchange students from USA

2 students of the University of Detroit Mercy are studying at Ryerson, through the North American Design Institute exchange program, an offshoot of the North America Free Trade Agreement. "Free trade spawns student exchange", from Forum, March 9, 1998.

ACC prize presentation

Fourth-year Business Management student Rhonda Hogan won the monthly cross-Canada ACC TelEnterprises contest. Published in the FORUM, March 23, 1998.

Security - phones in Quad

A new safety device in the Ryerson quad provides direct communication to the security desk in Jorgenson Hall. Director of Equity and Harassment Services Jane Mays said the device, "moves us so much forward in communicatin and safety on campus". Royal Commission Report Writers

Editors, Mary McDougall Maude and Rosemary Shipton are busy editing Royal Commission reports. Ms. Shipton and Ms McDougall Maude's partnership also includes their Publishing certificate program at Ryerson which began in 1990.

Architecture - Rooftop Gardens display

Landscape Architecture students displayed eight rooftop garden designs draw up for their client, Maurice Cody Public School in the artrium of the Architecture Building. Working with the Toronto school's 500 sutents and teachers, the third-year Ryerson Students designed plans and models for environmentally-firendly rooftop garden to be built at the school. Architecture - Rooftop Gardens

Third-year Landscape Architecture students at Ryerson Polytechnic University have created eight rooftop garden designs and models for their "cilent", the Maurice Cody Public School of Toronto. The Toronto Board of Education's Greening Schools Program started in 1993 was to provide a set of guidelines to encourage schools to tie their curriculum to the progam's seven areas.

J. Stuart Mackay Award (Lombardi)

John Barba-Linardo Lambardi, president and CEO of CHIN Radio/TV International was named 1997 reicipient of the J. Stuart MacKay Communicator of the Year Award. The award presentation was made at the Rogers Communication Centre by President Calud Lajeunesse. Toronto Mayor Barbara Hall thanked the MacKay family and congratulated Mr. Lombardi on his award. Forum, April 11, 1997 "Johnny Lomardi honored with Mackay Award".

Companies and Banks such as Bell Canada, Sun Life, Canada Trust and Ford Canada were on campus recruiting and head hunting students.

Bring Your Kids to Work Day

Human Resources Orientation for Chairs

John Cowan of Queen's University was keynote speaker at the orientation session for chairs, who are central to achieving the mission of the university, The orientation called for a lot of interaction among chairs, something that typically dosesn't happen in the course of the school year. Dr. Dewson commended Larissa Allen and Sandy Schwartz of Human Resources for organizing the orientation. Article appeared in Forum, September 12, 1997 "Orienting chairs'.

Ministry of Labour - donation

Pictures of Elizabeth Witmer, Claude Laguenesse and Chief Librarian Richard Malinski acceptance ceremony in the library. This special occasion was to mark the donation of Ministry of Labour Library's collection to the Ryerson Library

United Way Pancake Breakfast (Eggy)

United Way Pancake Breakfast on Tuesday October 28, 1997 raised $1281.Service was provided by VP Dennis Mock, Ryerson's United Way co-ordinator Marg Macmillan, Executive Director of University Advancement Bob Crow, Nicole and Claude Lajeunesse, VP Michael Dewson, and VP Linda Grayson. A picture of the group appeared in Forum November 10, 1997. A yellow flyer advertising the location and the menu, with Nicole and Claude's favorite items.

Nursing Honour Society

Ryerson School of Nursing inaugural induction ceremony, May 29, 1997, inducted the first members into its Honour Society in recognition of excellence in research, practice and scholarly activity. The standing-room-only induction ceremony in May saw 163 individuals become members, including faculty, alumni, students and nursing leaders from the professional community. Janice Waddell ( co-chair steering committee) read the opening remarks and welcome, Sue Williams (Director School of Nursing) said the welcoming remarks, Judith Sandys (Dean) more greetings and remarks. Southern Ontario alumni event
