Continuing Education - UCEA Marketing Awards

'Get there. Start here.' ads win U.S. honors for CE. Continuing Education's marketing campaign has been named "Best of Show" by the U.S. based University Continuing Education Association. The campaign won the New York Times Best of Show title. From Forum, March 29, 1999.

Continuing Education - awards

15 Continuing Education awards presented at the Awards Dinner sponsored by The Continuing Education Students' Association of Ryerson and The Continuing Education Division. In the color negatives there are staff and faculty presenting awards to selective students.

Continuing Education booth - Sheraton Hotel

File contains photographs of Continuing Education's booth at the Sheraton Hotel. Booth part of the University Continuing Education Association's annual conference. Pictured at the booth are the dean of Continuing Education Marilyn Booth; database and digital services administrator Thom Boivin; manager of marketing and publications Janet Hercz; and associate director Amy Casey. Booth won the association's gold award for excellence in marketing and publications and the New York Times best of show award. One of the pictures was published in the July 2002 FORUM.

Contract signing - George Brown College

File contains photographs taken at the official contract signing between Ryerson and George Brown College regarding the joint centre for Studies in Community Health. Then Ryerson President Claude Lajeunesse, then George Brown College president Frank Sorochinsky, and journalist Diane Francis - chair of fundraising campaign, are pictured. One of the images was published in the March 2001 edition of the FORUM.

File contains photographic slides taken during the convocation procession through the Quad and the after the ceremony. Many of the photos are "aerial" shots taken from the roof of Kerr Hall looking down at the graduands.

Convocation for the the Faculty of Applied Arts ( Fashion, Image Arts, Interior Design and Theatre) and Business Management. Arthur Lee, President and Chief Executive Officer of Solid Wear and James Cameron, Film maker were both awarded the Doctor of Laws.

Records consists of convocation programmes, transcripts of speeches/addresses, press kits, photographs, invitations, cassette tapes, some videocassettes and related documentation.

In December 1996, the name of the Office of Development, Alumni and Community Relations was changed to University Advancement Office and, thus, responsible for Convocation and ceremonies until 2008 with the creation of a separate department, the Office of Convocation and Awards.

File contains photographs of the Ryerson graduands walking to Massey Hall for convocation being led by a bagpiper from the Metro Toronto Police Pipe band. In the foreground of the photographs is Ernie the Hot Dog man. Also in the file is a photograph of someone petting Eggy.

Convocation, 1989

File contains a photograph of Ryerson Administration and Information Management graduate Alva Alvear buying a hot dog from Ernie's Hotdog emporium at Lake Devo. The photograph was published in the July 7, 1989 edition of the FORUM newsletter.

File contains photographs taken at the Spring convocation ceremonies on June 13, 14, and 15 and Fall Convocation on October 20. The photographs are of fellowship honourees. Included are photographs of June Callwood, who received a fellowship at the June 13 Applied Arts convocation ceremony in the morning; Douglas J. Cardinal, who received a fellowship at the June 13 Technology convocation ceremony in the afternoon; Rosemary Brown, who received a fellowship at the June 14 Arts and Community Services convocation ceremony; Roberta Bondar, who received a fellowship at the June 15 Business convocation ceremony; and David Crombie, who received his fellowship at the October 20 convocation ceremony. Also included are two photographs from the fall convocation of the procession and children from the Child care holding a sign.

Other photographs are of medal winners, staff members with graduating family members, the first Bachelor of Social Work degrees and first Bachelor of Engineering degrees.

The photographs include fellowship honouree Norman Campbell at the June 16 Faculty of Applied Arts ceremony; medal winners; and graduates with their degrees. Also included in the file is a photograph of former Ryerson Presidents Walter Pitman, and Brian Segal, Ryerson President Terry Grier and David Crombie taken after before or after the ceremony on June 15 where David Crombie was installed as Ryerson's first chancellor. Ryerson was also presented with the Kerr Memorial Mace during that same ceremony.

Debbie Chant

File contains head shots of Debbie Chant, a professor in the School of Early Childhood Studies. Photographs were taken at two different sessions. One set of photographs was taken when she was on secondment as Assistant to the President.

December 6 memorial display - Paper Prayers

File contains photographs taken of the "paper prayers" display as part of the December 6th memorial. Display occurred in the Olive Baker lounge in the Podium building. Members of the Ryerson community were encouraged to submit their thoughts on violence, a prayer, a poem, a remembrance of a victim of violence or empowering words and they would be put on display.
