Instant camera and film advertisements

File contains prints featuring images of advertisements for Kodak instant cameras, including a diagram of the process fluid, and Kodamatic instant color film. Also included are promotional images of Kodacolor film. Many are filed with captions. The caption for an image advertising Kodamatic Trimprint instant color film reads: "A cold winter's day is an ideal time to organize your pictures into albums. Remember that the Kodamatic Trimprints, when they have been separated from their backing, can be mounted or trimmed like conventional prints."

The Eastman Dry Plate and Film Company

File contains prints featuring an image of the Eastman Dry Plate and Film Company Photographic Materials building. Caption adhered to verso reads: "When amateur photographers sent their Kodak cameras with exposed film inside to the Eastman Dry Plate and Film Company in 1889, they received a reloaded camera and 2 1/2 inch diameter prints. This photograph of the company was taken with an early Kodak camera."

Kodak people sports, lawn bowling party, golfing, hockey

File contains a portrait of two young men wearing matching sweaters with badges that red: "Weston Juvenile T.L.L. Champions 1930", two matching images of bleachers filled with men and women dressed in suits and hats (between 1930-1939), a group shot of the Sept 1937 Testing & Processing Depts "Lawn Bowling party", an image of "Bob and his girl's" at a golf course, and a portrait of the Kodak hockey team (ca. 1935).

Second annual Kodak minstrel show

The first image, Burgess & Seymour, a study in black and white, depicts two Canadian Kodak employees, one identified as draftsman F.A. Seymour and the other as R. Ainslee Burgess. They performed a skit originally performed in the Canadian Kodak Minstrel Show of February 17-18, 1921, which was, according to an included clipping, repeated at a bazaar held by the Toronto Technical School. The skit consists of two easels, on which the two performers have drawn sketches of different Kodak girls. One of the performers (Burgess) is in blackface, as part of the Minstrel variety show performed during the 1920's by Kodak employees as part of the Kodak Athletics Association (KAA) activities.

The second image is a group portrait of the Kodak minstrel troupe consisting of 29 men in black face and their accompanying 7 musicians and conductor. They performed at the same event as Burgess and Seymour, February 1921.

Minstrel shows are a style of variety show, most popular during the late 19th and early 20th century, in which white performers use make-up and costumes to depict racist and stereotypical caricatures of Black people. The genre originated in the United States, but Canada had its own troupes and touring companies, and the format was popular with schools, community groups, and religious organizations.

File contains records created during the process of publishing various books, magazine articles, and other forms of press, including articles for Kodakery Canada, InFocus, and Kodak Canada News. Items include memos, correspondence, annotated drafts, images, and other ephemera. Subjects of publications include: Kodak pioneers; Kodak Canada's Vancouver processing lab; Kodak's role in metropolitan Toronto; airshow photography; Kodak's relationship with Quebec; Kodak products, employees, and awards; antique cameras; Kodak's role in both World Wars; and nature photography.

Kodak product packaging

File contains packaging for Kodak photofinishing--including envelopes for mail-order processing and developed negatives--from roughly 1907 to 1997. File also includes product packaging and instructions for Canadian Kodak's Azo developing paper from between 1909 and 1911. Azo is a silver chloride contact printing paper originally produced by Photo Materials Company of Rochester, NY. This latter company was purchased by Kodak in 1898, which then began producing and distributing Azo paper under its own name.

Records pertaining to corporate meetings and presentations

File consists of overhead transparencies and paper copies of notes from internal presentations delivered between 1991 and 1999 in English and French. Much of the file consists of Kodak Canada's Talking Points/Point de Vue initiative, an internal communication system designed to quickly disseminate information throughout the organization. File also includes notes for regional visits, notes and transpariencies for an Image Check meeting from January 20, 1995 and an SGM IS managers meeting from April 26, 1995, and other materials. Topics include Kodak Canada's history, organization, strategic vision, quality policy, customer satisfaction measures, operating efficiency, and revenues.

Corporate histories and overviews

File contains miscellaneous overviews and histories of Kodak, written and used as reference material by Kodak Canada's communications department between 1958 and 2004. Includes brief background accounts and "fast facts," as well as "Kodak Canada Milestones" documents, which provide year-to-year accounts of Kodak Canada's activities. Most documents provide general corporate information, but some cover more specific topics, including the Ryerson Chair in Photography, Kodak's Toronto Expansion Program, the history of the Kodak camera, Kodak's offices in Quebec, Ottawa, and Edmonton, and the history of the Kodak Heights Power House (building #1). Many of the histories were written by Mel Rubinstein, Company Information Specialist, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs. Corporate histories in this file appear to have been written retroactively and can thus be differentiated from Kodak Canada's "Corporate History Notes," which were written on an ongoing basis and provided day-to-day accounts of the company's life.
