New nurses' residence

A new nurses' residence was built after The Wellesley amalgamated with Toronto General Hospital. The cornerstone was laid by Ontario Premier Leslie Frost during a ceremony held June 29, 1952. The building opened June 29, 1953. In 1971 the building, now being used as offices, was re-named the Elsie K. Jones building.
File contains photographs of the sod turning, cornerstone laying, and interior and exterior photographs of the residence.

Mr. and Mrs. C. LaVenture and Evelyn Jolley

Photograph shows an older man and woman, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. LaVenture, seated. Mrs. LaVenture (aka Elsie K. Jones, former long serving director of the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing) is holding a teacup in her lap and shaking hands with Mrs. Evelyn Jolley, Wellesley class of 1937. Mrs. Jolley was also the head of the Alumnae Association at that time. Photograph was published in the Winter 1971 edition of the Wellesley World magazine.

Mother - daughter tea

Photograph of women sitting out on a veranda drinking tea. A server is seen passing out food. In the background you can see more women sitting out on the grass at tables. The mother - daughter tea was part of graduation week for the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing class of 1972B and was held at Prince Arthur House. Photograph was used in the Fall issue of the Wellesley World newsletter put out by the hospital.

File contains a series of miscellaneous photographs. Three of the prints are of a spread of nursing magazines; one is of an "Innovations in Nursing" display in the hospital's front lobby; one is a composite with the central image of the nurses choir with smaller images of older people; and the final photograph is of six children in the yard of a house.

Miscellaneous

File contains three photographs. Topics include an early outdoor event on hospital grounds, Dorothy Eden and Dorothy Arnot addressing a group on a tour of the hospital, and a group of student nurses walking through the hospital corridor singing.

Medals

File contains Canadian (British) and American World War I and II medals. Some were awarded to Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing class of 1915 alumnus Willmina Ferguson and the others were donated by her family to the Archives.

Mary Willmina Ferguson portrait

Photograph of Mary Willmina Ferguson. Born October 13, 1889 in Richards Falls, Ontario. She was a member of Wellesley's first graduating class in 1915. She signed up with Canada's overseas expeditionary force as a member of the Canadian Army Medical Corps on January 31st, 1916. She received a British War Medal, a Victory (Inter-allied) War Medal and 2 Mentioned in despatches oak leaf sprays for her service over seas.
Removed from the the back of the frame was a yellow piece of cardstock with information/dedication about Ferguson.

Photograph of a man's arm and hand resting on the waist of a woman in a nurses uniform. Nursing students were not allowed to marry without the Nursing director's permission, and only in the last 6 months of their training. Photograph taken during graduation events for the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing. Apparently several members of the class of 1971 married during their last year of training. Photograph published in the Wellesley World magazine, Winter 1971 edition.

The Wellesley Hospital

File contains photographs of what appears to be several different events. Unclear if the date on the original envelope pertains to all of them.
Photographs include the Golf Tournament, a nursing event, a visit to the hospital by an unknown man and woman and other events.

Identification bracelet

Identification bracelet made from a French coin.
Small chainlink rope made into a bracelet by soldering ends onto a filed down franc. The front of the coin features a woman (The Sower, designed by Oscar Roty in 1900). The verse side was smoothed to allow for etching "Clara MacNeill C.A.M.C. 1916-1917, 1918-1919".

Hospital information

File contains brochures created to give the reader information about the hospital as a whole. Included are four brochures from 1967 designed to be a "tour" of the hospital, and brochures from 1976, 1976, and 1988 that would have been given to people coming to The Wellesley for treatment.

Hospital Tour slide show

The 64 slide show created by the Alumnae Association as an intro the beginnings of the Hospital and its current (to the 1980s) layout and features. The initial slide show was created in 1980 with slides 58-64 were added in 1981-1982. Slides (put in order according to enclosed listing) are as follows.

Hospital 60th Anniversary celebrations

File contains photographs taken at various events celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Wellesley Hospital held September 6th-8th. Events organized and run my the Alumnae included the garden party held on the hospital grounds, tours of the hospital and a dinner held at the Royal York. Several of the photographs have names written on back in pen.

File contains materials relating to the Class of 1974 graduation from the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing. This was considered the "last" Wellesley class graduation - although there was a 1975 graduation for the students that joined Wellesley in 1972. Included in the file are three copies of the ceremony program, one invitation to the Class of 1974 tea, one name plate, three copies of the ceremony invitation, two invitations to the graduation breakfast, one special guest instruction card, one copy of the graduation speech of Carol Whiting - Acting Principal of the Wellesley School of Nursing, three copies of G. E. Thornton's, Director of the Wellesley Hospital, speech, a news clipping fromt the Toronto Star about the graduation, and memos and correspondence in regards to convocation.

File contains materials relating to the Class of 1973 graduation from the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing. This was the last graduation ceremony held before Wellesley became part of the Ryerson Polytechnical Institute School of Nursing. Included in the file is one copy of a speech given by Dorothy Arnot, one copy of the valedictory address, one copy of Dorothy Eden's speech, two ceremony invitations, one ceremony program mock-up, and various memos and correspondence regarding the graduation ceremony.

File contains materials relataing to the graduation of both the Class of 1972A on June 22, 1972 and the Class of 1972B on September 7, 1972.
For the Class of 1972A, the file contains two invitations to the graduation breakfast, two ceremony invitations, one invitation to the graduation tea, one ceremony invitation mock-up, and one copy of the ceremony program.
For the Class of 1972B, the file contains two copies of the ceremony program, one copy of the graduation breakfast invitation, and two copies of the ceremony invitation.
Also included in the file are various memos and correspondence about the ceremonies.

Harold Rea (whose daughter graduated from Wellesley in 1963), an assortment of correspondence and memos relating to graduation.
