Toronto Stock Exchange building

Photograph of a model design proposed for the redevelopment of the old stock exchange building. The design included a tower with 13 storeys of office space and 11 storeys of condominiums. The design was never implemented, and instead the Ernst & Yonge Tower was constructed on the site.

Trolley restaurant

Photographs of the exterior of a trolley streetcar built into a glass enclosure on the side of a building, operated as a restaurant. A TTC streetar can be seen exiting the station adjacent to the restaurant in one of the photographs. An article on the interior decoration was published in the May 1980 issue of Canadian Architect magazine.

Eastern section, Gardiner Expressway, concept drawings

Illustrations showing an idealized reconstruction of the section of the Gardiner Expressway and Lakeshore Boulevard, crossing the Don Valley Parkway and extending to the waterfront. Drawings include mixed-use infills under the Gardiner (with the existing Lakeshore roadway relocated south toward the water), and the creation of a Garden Boulevard to the east with commercial uses on either side. Ponds, lakes and fountains are inserted along the shoreline. The designs were commissioned as part of an OAA Charrette, and the images were published in the July 1987 issue of Canadian Architect magazine.

Architects in this series include Richard Meier, British architect James Stirling, and Dr. Anne Schrecker, Chairman of the Architectural Science & Landscape Architecture Department at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in 1981. This folder also contains numerous photographs related to the judging of Canadian Architect Magazine contest submissions. Many photographs do not contain dates or inscriptions.

The majority of the photographs are not dated, but appear to have been taken during the early 1950's to 1980. Architects pictured include Eberhard H. Zeidler, Senior partner of Zeidler Roberts Partnership, as well as Bruno Zevi, Boris Zerafa, and Young & Might. The file also contains biographical information on Eberhard H. Zeidler.

The file includes portraits, candid, group, and architectural photographs. Photos include pictures of architects Arthur Erickson, Charles Eames, Glenn Edwards, and Ralph Erskine, as well as architectural photographs of interiors and exteriors of the Bayles Residence and Roy Thompson Hall, both designed by Arthur Erickson. The poster in the file is a sketch of Erickson outside his Bayles Residence. Textual records in the file consist of a statement on Wolf Foundation Prize for Architecture winner, Ralph Erskine, and a note on the Charles Eames Furniture exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in 1973.

The file contains correspondence from Vivian Manasc to Marco Polo, the Managing Editor of Canadian Architect, in regard to First Nations schools and other projects completed by Manasc Isaac Architects Ltd, being Saddle Lake Junior/Senior High School, Pequis K4-12 School, Peigan Health Facility, Hobbema Wellness Centre, Driftpile K4-Grade 12 School, Four Chiefs Complex, O'Chiese K4-12 School, and Saskatchewan Indian Cultural Centre & Keepinghouse. The slides in the file contain interior and exterior shots of the buildings mentioned.

Toronto series

Series consists of photographs, photomechanical prints and drawings of buildings located in the Metropolitan Toronto Area, an administrative area that is now usually identified simply as 'Toronto'. The municipal districts included are: East York, Etobicoke, Forest Hill, Leaside, Long Branch, Mimico, New Toronto, North York, Scarborough, Swansea, Toronto, Weston and York.

Files for buildings in municipalities that are identified as part of the Greater Toronto Area but are not part of Metropolitan Toronto proper, including Mississauga, Vaughan and Markham, are found in the Ontario series.

Located near Mont Joli, Quebec, MLI has been the world's leading francophone marine sciences centre since it was established in 1987 by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO). It is primarily involved in providing the federal government with methods of conserving marine resources, protecting the marine environment, safe marine navigation, as well as research, monitoring and assessment of fisheries, marine mammals, oceanography, and habitats of the Estuary and Gulf of St. Lawrence and Northern Quebec. The Canadian Hydrographic Service at the MLI is responsible for the nautical charts for the region. Also contained within the MLI are the Laurentian Regional Science Branch and the Regional Oceans Branch of the DFO. The MLI takes part in joint projects with the Groupe interuniversitaire de recherches en océanographie du Québec (GIROQ), the Université du Québec à Rimouski, and the Institut maritime du Québec.

A stamp on verso gives the project name as "Les Terrasses," the Architectural firm as Webb, Zerafa, Menkès, Housden, and the Proprietors as Rose Quebec Ltd. & First Quebec Corporation, D.W.S. Holdings & Gerald D. Hines & Interests.

Aerial view of the buildings. A sticker adhered to verso reads "The Monastère du Bon-Pasteur/ Montreal, QC/ Grand Prize/ The Montreal Trust - Credit Foncier Award". The monastery, the main building on the site, was built to house the Sisters of the Cornmunauté de Notre-Dame du Bon-Pasteur d'Angers, who came from France in 1844 at the behest of Mgr Bourget. Today the Bon Pasteur siteis a multipurpose complex, combining housing, cultural amenities and services, etc.
