Graduation, 1960

File contains an invitation to the graduation exercises on June 1, 1960 at the Sherborne United Church, and a copy of the the superintendent's report given as an address at the graduation ceremony. Report contains information about the school and the hospital.

Graduation, 1962

File contains materials relating to the Class of 1962 graduation from the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing. This also marked the 50th Anniversary of the Hospital and the School. Elsie K. Jones, superintendent, was honoured with a the unveiling of her portrait (commissioned by the student nurses). Hospital founder Dr. Herbert Bruce did the unveiling. Included in the file is one copy of the superintendent's report given during the ceremony, 3 invitations to the graduation exercises, memos regarding the ceremony, and a financial report comparing costs for the graduation ceremonies for 1960, 1961 and 1962.

Graduation, 1965

File contains materials relating to the Class of 1965 graduation from the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing. Included in the file are two copies of the superintendent's report given by Dorothy Arnot during the ceremony, two invitations to the graduation reception, two invitations to the graduation ceremony, one copy of Miss Jenny Weir, Director of the School of Nursing at Queen's University, speech, i copy of the programme, and 2 copies of a press release about the graduation ceremony.

File contains materials relating to the Class of 1966 graduation from the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing. Included in the file are two invitations to the ceremony, a graduation program, five copies of the valedictory address, a seating list of graduates, a press release regarding awards, and three copies of the superintendent's report given during the ceremony.

Graduation exercises and cornerstone laying, 1965

File contains a 26 minute film that includes: the graduation exercises for the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing held June 7th, 1951; a short section showing people using a stethoscope; and the rest of film is the cornerstone laying by the Honourable John Robarts for the new wing of the Wellesley Hospital on May 19, 1965.

Nursing Cape

Navy blue and red wool nursing cape. "WD" embroidered in gold on the right side of the collar denoting the "Wellesley Division". "TGH" is embroidered on the left side of the collar denoting "Toronto General Hospital". Cape closed with two wool tabs attached to cape with brass buttons. Cape was part of nurses uniform.
Wellesley Hospital merged with Toronto General Hospital between 1948 and 1959, becoming the Wellesley Division of that hospital.

Photograph of the Duke and Duchess of Wellington greeting Mrs. Alice Tso, Director of Social Service, and her daughter Diana in the lobby of the Wellesley Hospital. The visit was in honour of the Hospital's 60th Anniversary. The Hospital is named, in part, for the Duke and Dr. Herbert Bruce received permission from the previous Duke to use his coat of arms as the Hospital's coat of arms.
The photograph was published on the front cover of the Wellesley World Fall 1972 edition.

Pages 4 to 6 of the scrapbook contained a two-part news story written by Donald Jones about Dr. Herbert A. Bruce. It was part of his column "Historic Toronto" published on Saturdays in the Toronto Star. The first part of the story, entitled "Doctor ruffled a lot of feathers and gave Toronto a hospital" was published January 5, 1980 and was clipped and saved on pages 4 and 5 of the scrapbook. The second part of the story, entitled "Dr. Bruce's report got Toronto started on slum clearance" was published on January 12, 1980 and was clipped and saved on pages 5 and 6 of the scrapbook.

Annual Reports - Wellesley School of Nursing

Sub-series contains annual reports created by the Directors of the Wellesley School of Nursing. The majority of the reports are the ones sent to the Department of Health, and then the College of Nurses of Ontario to register the school. Included with some of these are the reports by the Department inspectors as a result of their visits to the Nursing School. The file also contains annual reports written for the Wellesley Hospital Board of Directors, and a variety of correspondence and questionnaires from other Nursing ruling bodies including the Canadian Nurses' Association and the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario.

Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing graduation doll

Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing graduation doll created for Wellesley graduate and former Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing faculty member Linda Cooper. Doll has curly blonde hair and full make-up. It is wearing the nurses graduation cap with the black band, the starched white graduation uniform of dress, bib and apron with the blue and red Wellesley nursing cape. The doll is also wearing white stockings and white shoes. A scanned image of the Wellesley graduation pin is affixed to front of the uniform on the left side. The doll is also wearing a plastic heart bracelet.

File contain program calendars from the 1950s to the 1970s. There are some dates written on the front of the booklets in pen, but no clear dates printed in the actual calendar. There are broken down into three file parts - 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.

Reference handbook for nurses

A medical reference book for nurses. Found in the pages of the book was a news clipping about a soldier's death, notes on a quinnine injection, and recipes from the Hospital for Sick Children. Wellesley Hospital participated in an affiliate program with Sick Kids hospital so its nurses could train in pediatric nursing.

The Hospital for Sick Children affiliate pediatric program

The Hospital for Sick Children program, in place since 1919, was offered to nurses from Toronto General Hospital, Toronto East General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, Wellesley Hospital, St. Michael's Hospital, Branson Hospital, Women's College Hospital, and Soldiers' Memorial Hospital in Orillia. Graduate Nurses preparing for Ontario registration and students from the University of Toronto (come with their own instructor) were also in the program. Pediatric nursing was made a compulsory course for Nurses wishing to become registered with the Province of Ontario. The program itself lasted 8 weeks and covered conditions that were the most serious or most common in children including allergic conditions, cancer, congenital conditions, and exceptional children.
File contains a duotang with an outline of the pediatric nursing affiliate program.

Wellesley School of Nursing - Nursing procedures

Wellesley School of Nursing nursing procedures manual containing instructions on a variety of topics. Manual was used during the time with Wellesley Hospital was a division of the Toronto General Hospital. Topics include patient admitting and discharge, room cleaning, medical procedures, pre- and post-operative care, medicine administration, charting, and equipment use. Included are examples of the variety of forms used by doctors and nurses and a separate booklet of information on oxygen administration published by the Linde Company.

Florence (Stewart) Roberts and Isobel (MacGillivray) Smith

One audiocassette. Side A has continued interview with Florence (Stewart) Roberts, class of 1919 (See RG 976.01.02.01.02 for beginning of interview). Side A also has start of interview with Isobel (MacGillivray) Smith, class of 1919. Her interview continues on to Side B. See RG 946.01.02.01.04 for continuation of her interview.

Second page in scrapbook. Front has typed note "Box sent to Miss M. McMullen for Easter in March 1946". Underneath this is a newsclipping listing the contents of Overseas parcel no. 129 and the cost for shipping parcel.
Back of page has typewritten "Contents of boxes sent to overseas nurses Xmas 1945". Underneath this are two typed lists of box contents for Parcel No. 83 for servicemen, and parcel no. 90 for civilian in the British Isles.

On the front of page 8 is a typewritten list of recipients of Christmas 1944 boxes and cards sent by the Alumnae Association. Included are Lieutenant Nursing Sisters J. McCready, E. Rudd, E. M. Brown, M. Hillman, M. R. Adams, L. Hamblin, K. Fisher, M. Montizambert, M. Littlejohn, H. Pangman, D. McKnight, H. Haugh, E. Moore, G. M. Stewart, C. J. Cuthbert, M. Montgomery, and L. Jamieson. Box also sent to Major Alex G. Shaw. Cards were sent to Captain E. C. Noble, Miss H. Cunningham, Miss M. McMullen, and Major C. A. Tavener.

Back of page is typewritten inventory of the contents of overseas boxes as well as the inventory of parcel 62 for servicemen.

Grace Bolton personal scrapbook page 1

Invitation for Grace Bolton from Dr. Herbert and Mrs. Bruce to a reception at Government House in Toronto in honour of the members of the Wellesley Hospital Alumnae Association on the occasion of the Hospital's 25th anniversary. Dr. Bruce was the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario at this period. Underneath the invitation is a newsclipping about the reception. Both are glued to a piece of cardstock.
