Manufactured by Stark Electrical Instrument Company, it was used by the School of Electronics in Toronto's Training and Re-establishment Institute, 1945 - 1948 and likely by Ryerson Institute of Technology's School of Electronics from 1948 into the 1950s. It's serial number is 3051.

Decade Resistance Boxes (potentiometers)

The file contains 6 decade resistance boxes with variable resistors (potentiometers). Decade resistance boxes are electrical test instruments used in laboratories, field work, and, in our examples, in educational settings to measure electrical resistance in circuits and to calibrate other electrical or electronic devices. Electrical resistors interrupts or reduces the flow of electricity and multiple resisters on a box allows the user to vary the amount of electricity flow as it passes through the box by adjusting the resistors. Each resistor is in measurements of 10 ohms, thus, the term decade.

Our decade resistance boxes were used by students of the Toronto Training and Re-establishment Institute onsite after World War II and in operation between 1945 to 1948 and by Ryerson Institute of Technology from 1948 into the 1950s.
