Negatives Atherley

Item consists of photographs of a family taken at Atherley. Subjects include water bodies, the Samuel de Champlain monument (in present day Orillia and designed by Vernon March), a house, and a car thought to be a Ford Model A.

Dorothy & James

Item consists of photographs of a young girl and man around a neighbourhood and inside a house. Two photos are in front of a tall fence, one is a photo of the young girl with a woman and the other is the young girl surrounded by a group of people.

Wedding

Item consists of photographs taken at the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. McClure in 1925. Subjects include various group photos, a large boat, a Ford Model A, horse carriages, a large drum with the Prince of Wales on it, canoes, and dog carriages.

Atherley

Item consists of photographs of a family taken at Atherley. Subjects include water bodies, a canoe, the Samuel de Champlain monument (in present day Orillia and designed by Vernon March), a house, and a cow.

Brechin

Item consists of photographs of a family at Brechin. Subjects include family portraits and photographs with various farm animals including birds, horses, cats, and goats.

Unionville

Item consists of eight photographs taken at Unionville of a young boy and a young girl. The children are accompanied by adults in two of the photos. In one of them both children are carried by adults with another woman standing by. In the other the young girl is standing in front of a man.

Brechin

Item consists of photographs of a trip to Brechin. The photos are taken in a rural farming area with subjects that include men and women, horses, hay, firewood, a log cabin, corn stalks, and cows.

[Photographs from a Kodak No. 1 camera]

Item consists of twelve snapshots taken with the Kodak No. 1, the first rollfilm camera under the name "Kodak". Subjects include a house in a forest, a group of women posing in front of the house, a man walking by the house, cows, and men playing cricket or baseball. The images are round on a white background with a black border and gold gilded edges. On the back of one photograph is handwritten in pen "Set 2.00" on a piece of masking tape.

Une Voyage Commence

Item consists of a toned black and white photograph of a group of men and women on a sailboat. Five women dressed in long skirts and three men in turtlenecks or ties stand and sit on one end of the boat, posing for the photographer. In the foreground, a boy is turned away from the camera, looking at the group. He is wearing a hat and has his sleeves rolled up. The boat seems to tilt sharply to the left. On the back of the photograph is handwritten in pen "Une Voyage Commence" which is French, and translates to "a trip / journey begins".

[Two Men and Their Horses]

Item consists of a black and white photograph of two men and two horses. The men are wearing hats, suspenders and boots, and are each holding a lead to a horse. The horses are brown with some white spots. They are standing in front of a building made of stone and wood, which appears to be a stable of sorts. The ground is dirt and rocks. The focus is sharp on the horses, but not much else. There is a 0.5 cm white border around the image.

[Man Leads Two Women on Camels]

Item consists of a toned black and white photograph of a man leading two women on camels. The women appear to be tourists. They are both older women in hats, gloves and glasses. They appear to be tourists, sitting atop camels that have ornamental blankets on their backs. The man leading the camels is wearing a long white robe, has a beard and a turban. They appear to be in the desert. There is a 0.5 cm white border surrounding the image. On the back of the photograph is handwritten in pen "Miss Livingstone & H."

[Women Leaning on Porch Pillar]

Item consists of two black and white photographs of two women leaning on a porch pillar. In one, the woman is wearing a large hat and scarf, a coat and white gloves, and a long skirt. She is leaning on a column of a front porch of a home. There are rocking chairs in the background on the porch. In the other photograph, the woman is wearing a large hat and fur coat. She poses beside the column. There is snow on the front steps. There is a dark spot on the right side of the images, where it appears something slightly obstructed the lens. There is a small white border surrounding the image. On the back of the photographs in pencil is written "712" and "884", respectively.

Item consists of a black and white photograph and gelatin silver negative of an elderly woman sitting in a chair. The woman is wearing a dress with lace collar. She is sitting in a wooden chair in a grassy field. There is a large tree behind her. The photograph is a cropped version of the negative. There is a small white border surrounding the photograph.

Ted & Buster

Item consists of a black and white photograph of a woman posing with a dog. The woman is wearing a white dress, stripped stockings, a headband and boots. She is putting her face next to the dog's, who has its tongue out. They are sitting on the front porch of a house. There appears to be a slight light leak coming from the left side of the frame. There is a small white border around the image. On the back of the photograph is handwritten in pencil "633" and in pen "Ted & Buster"

[Man and Dog on Steps]

Item consists of two black and white photographs of a man and a dog. The man is wearing is suit and tie and hat, and is scratching a black and white dog behind its ears. They are in front of a house, and the dog is sitting on the steps. The man is looking at the camera. It appears as though the photograph was developed or fixed incorrectly, as there are marks from developing the image. The two photographs are identical, but different exposures. There is an uneven white border around both images. On the back of each photograph is written in pencil "28" and "50¢"

[Girl in a Garden]

Item consists of two black and white photographs of a girl standing in a garden. The girl is wearing a light coloured shirt, skirt, cape and hat. In one photograph, she is wearing the hat, and in the other she is holding it. She is standing in the grass and looking at the camera. A 1 cm white border surrounds the images. On the back of each photograph is handwritten "July 7 / 31".

[Two Teenage Boxers]

Item consists of a black and white photograph of two teenage boys in boxing apparel. The boy on the left is wearing shorts, a tank top and shoes. His head is shaved and his arms are crossed. The boy on the right is wearing shorts, boxing gloves and shoes. They both have a wide stance and are looking at the camera.

[GEMS Baseball Team]

Item consists of a black and white photograph of a boys' baseball team. The boys wear uniforms with GEMS on the front. They are sitting and standing on a grassy field. Five boys stand in the back, six sit cross-legged in front of them, and one boy is laying in front of all of them. There is a boy visible in the background, leaning on his bat.

[Woman in Fur, and Baby in Wicker Pram]

Item consists of a black and white photograph of a woman standing next to a baby carriage. The woman is wearing a hat and fur coat. The baby is in a wicker pram. Both are looking at the camera. There are two houses behind them. There is a light leak toward the bottom right of the photograph. On the back of the photograph is handwritten in pencil "Apr 1915".

Item consists of two black and white photographs of a woman lifting a baby out of a wicker baby carriage. The woman and carriage are on a walkway to the front of a house. There are some flowers in the background. The carriage is posed diagonally, baby and woman are looking at each other. The photos appear to be developed and fixed improperly, as there are liquid markings and fingerprints on the prints. The two images are identical but flipped and cropped differently. One is lighter than the other. On the back of each photograph is handwritten in black pen "Baby Rer. 6 wks."

[3 Women and a Man on a Lock]

Item consists of three black and white photographs of three women and a man on a lock. In each of the photographs, the women and man stand and sit in different configurations. They are perched against the lock's crank, and behind them is the lock and water. In the background there are some trees. The women are dressed is dresses and skirts, and the man is wearing a suit and tie. They look relaxed and are all wearing hats. Two of the photographs show only part of the faces of the people. It seems as though the photographer shot them too low, so parts of them are cut out of the frame. Each photograph is surrounded by an uneven white border. On the back of each photograph is handwritten in pencil the number "8", and on one of the photographs in brown pen is "July 12 / 19"

[Woman, Baby and Wicker Pram]

Item consists of a black and white photograph of a woman sitting beside a baby on some grass. Beside them is a wicker chair with a light coloured pillow and a wicker baby carriage. They appear to be sitting in the back yard of a home. There is an uneven white border surrounding the image. On the back of the photograph is handwritten "August 9th 1914".

[Jerry Sachs and Al Corbett in Sports Uniform]

Item consists of 15 black and white photographs. The photographs are of two young men engaging in different sports. According to the handwritten captions on the back of the photographs, two of these men are Jerry Sachs and Al Corbett. The photographs show the men posing in different athletic uniforms. Boxing, baseball and basketball are some of the sports the men are engaging in.

Item consists of a sepiatoned black and white photograph of some men fishing in a light coloured canoe. The canoe is in a lake, and behind the canoe in the background are many trees. There are three men in the boat. The young man on the left side of the frame is wearing a cardigan and holding a pair of binoculars. The two other men are older, wearing suits and hats, and holding fishing rods. All three men are looking at the camera. There is a 0.4 cm white border around the image. Crescent Beach July 10 / 15

The men are sitting on chairs on the front porch. One is wearing a tie and the other is wearing a vest and tie. The women are sitting below them on the steps of the front porch, and are all wearing dresses. There is a uneven white border around the image. The back of the photograph is stamped in red on the bottom right with some illegible numbers.

Item consists of a black and white photograph of two boys standing, holding a string with fish on it between them. The boy on the left is wearing a shirt and black pants with a belt, and is holding one end of the string. The boy on the right is wearing a suit and a hat, and holding the other end of the string. On the string hangs 5-6 medium sized fish. Both boys are standing in front of a house and looking at the camera. There is an uneven white border around the image and below the image is handwritten "PALS". On the back of the photograph, stamped in blue is "New Crystal Finish, Reg U.S Patent, THE OWL DRUG CO., Lewison, Idaho", and on the bottom right "13". The Owl Dug Co. was created at 1128 Market Street in San Francisco in 1892. It branched out across the United States, until the Rexall Drug Co. bought out the chain in the 1930s.

The woman in the middle is wearing white and holding a young girl in her lap. The woman on the right is wearing a dark dress and a wide brimmed hat with ornaments, and a sash. All three of the young girls are wearing white dresses. The house appears to be in a rural area.

[Nancy and Charles Crabb Kissing]

Item is a black and white photograph of a man and a woman kissing. They are standing on a pile of rocks in a rural setting. The woman is wearing a long dark dress and a dark hat. She is holding a long wooden stick like a cane. The man is wearing a suit and is holding his hat in his hand. The photograph measures 7.25 x 10.75 cm and is mounted on a piece of embossed grey card. [Jerry Sachs and the Portsmouth Baseball Team]

The guys are standing in a hilly suburb park area with some homes behind them. All of the men in their uniforms are standing in a line, and there is a younger looking boy dressed as an umpire in front of them. There is a small uneven white border around the image. On the back of the photograph, someone has written in pencil "Jerry Sachs, 5 from left side". In another photo, the team is together on a grassy field with a man in a hat and tie. They are off- center and some of the team appears to be cut out of the frame. There is a light leak on the bottom right. [Two Young Women Pretending to Fight]

Item consists of a toned black and white photograph of two teenage girls pretending to fight one another. One of the young women is wearing a plaid dress and has a fist raised as though she is going to punch the other. The other woman is wearing a long skirt and a white shirt, and is leaning in toward the first woman. Both are looking toward the camera as though this were a staged act for the photographer. They are standing in front of a house with a large tree. They appear to be in a rural setting. The photograph is surrounded by a 0.5 cm white border. The back of the photograph has a handwritten number in pencil "2174".

Item consists of two photographs of a baby in a white dress sleeping in a bed. The baby is propped up on some pillows in a single bed. These appear to be the same photograph printed twice at different exposures.

AZ Watson Taken at Midnight

Item consists of a sepiatone black and white photograph of a man and a dog at midnight in Nome, Alaska. The man appears to be standing on a porch with his hands in his pockets. He is wearing a long dark coat, glasses and a hat. There are binoculars around his neck. There is a dog in the foreground, at the feet of the man. There is an uneven white border around the image and at the bottom of the photograph is written "AZ Watson Taken at Midnight" in pen. On the back of the photograph in pencil is handwritten "Taken at Nome Alaska at 12 oclock at night continuous light sun set at 10.20 pm June 21st 1902".

L.S.H.LL 10 Years on General Principles [photobooth stip]

Item consists of a black and white photobooth strip of a man in a vest and tie. In all images he is looking to the left. On each frame is handwritten in pencil "813427" and on the back in the same handwritting is "L.S.H.LL 10 Years on General Principles". There is an uneven black border around each frame, and some damaged from fingerprints on the middle frame.

Item consists of one black and white photobooth strip of a man in a suit and tie. There are three different frames. In the top frame, the man is facing left, in the middle frame he is facing forward and on the lower frame he is facing right. The focus of the image is somewhat off and the man never makes direct eye contact with the lens. Between the frames is an uneven black border.

[Man, 19 Fish, Woman]

Item consists of a sepia toned black and white photograph of a man and woman standing beside 19 large fish hung on a wooden shed. The man is wearing a tie and suspenders and the woman is wearing a long black dress with white lace jabot. They are both holding fishing rods.

[Woman Milking Cow in a Field]

Item consists of a sepiatone black and white photograph of a woman milking a cow in a field. The woman is wearing a light-coloured dress with white apron and light-coloured stockings. She sits on a small bench and rests a large silver coloured bucket on the bench. She is milking a cow that is mostly white with some black spots and large horns. In the background there is 11 fence posts, with trees behind them. There is a 0.5 cm white border around the image. On the back of the photograph there is illegible numbers from a stamp.

Nurse Jill and Dad

Item consists of a colour photograph of a young woman and older man in front of the Palace of Westminster (or Houses of Parliament) in London, UK. The young woman is wearing a blue dress and is sitting, while an older man dressed in a suit with a red tie stands beside her. They are both looking at the camera. In the midground there are cars driving by and in the background the Palace of Westminster is visible. On the back of the photograph is typed "Nuse Jill and Dad. Photo by Win, London, 1972." The image is surrounded by a 0.5 cm white border and is printed on Kodak Paper.

The Rock, White Rock, BC

Items consists of a post card of a 4 men and 4 women standing and sitting on a large rock. Image is circular and likely shot on an early Kodak Brownie. On the front, above the image someone has handwritten in pencil "The Rock", and below in pencil "White Rock B.C". The back of the photograph is printed with a post card format. This image was developed on Velox photographic paper, the first commercially successful photo paper.

[Woman and two girls in the roots of a tree]

Item consists of a sepiatone image of a woman and two girls sitting in the roots of a felled tree. The woman is wearing a coat and a hat with a broach and a long scarf. The girl in the foreground wears a black hat and a coat. A second girl peeks out from a hole in the roots in the midground of the photograph. There is a white boarder surrounding the image. The back of the photographed is stamped with the numbers "0480" in blue ink. The photo was printed on Velox photographic paper, invented by Leo Baekeland and sold to Eastman Kodak. Velox was the first commercially successful photo paper.

[Woman petting a goat]

Item consists of a black and white photograph of a woman in a hat and sunglasses petting a goat. The goat is wearing a collar and there is a large tree in the mid-ground. It appears to be summertime. There is a 0.5 cm white border surrounding the image. The back of the photographed is stamped in blue ink "8070".

Lantern slides (.1) and box (.2)

Wood box has sliding lid and is covered with patterned brown paper. Nine of the glass slides are painted with scenes of children engaged in play and work, and one includes the phrase "Good Night." Three slides have been painted with four vignetted cityscapes each. All of the slides are edged with orange tape.

Sackville Street, Dublin

Lantern slide, glass slide in wood frame. Image area is circular as is the hole in the wood frame. Illustration is hand painted onto the glass. Handwritten on sticker "Ireland - Sackville Street, Dublin." Illustration of a busy street scene with people, horse & buggies, streetcar with buildings on either side of the street, and the Nelson's Pillar at the end of the street. Cobblestone street, men in top hats. Please note, date is based on the knowledge that since 1924, the street has been known as O'Connell Street, Dublin's main thoroughfare. The Nelson's Pillar was erected in 1808 and destroyed by a bomb in 1966. It is a granite pillar topped by a statue of Horatio, Lord Nelson.

Railroad Bridge by Moonlight

Printed on a sticker on wood frame "Express Train - Railroad Bridge by Moonlight." Illustration of a railway bridge over water, with a forest behind and the moon above. Unable to find reference to title on slide.

[Joker]

Glass slide in wood frame. The glass slide is exposed, no protective covering. Missing the moveable part of the slide to make the illustration change. The black paint around the illustration is exposed. The illustration is a handpainted joker with a jester hat and costume, his tongue is sticking out and it looks like he's holding a big blank book that covers his body.

[Bar Scene]

Lantern slide, glass slide in wood frame. Image area is circular as is the hole in the wood frame. Illustration is hand painted onto the glass. Only information on slide is carved into wood frame "T.H. McAllister Optician N.Y." Illustration of a bar scene, with an American flag hanging above the bar. There's men standing beside a bar, with a bartender standing behind it. Looks like the men are arguing, and one of the seated men a glass broken on his head, and there's blood. There's a dog in the foreground barking at the men.

Coming Thro' The Rye

Lantern slide, glass slide in thinner wood frame. Image area is circular, though in square glass. Image is hand coloured perhaps from an engraving. Printed on slide "Coming Thro' The Rye" and "Crystal Magic Lantern Slide." Sticker of a Y on frame. Image is of a woman and a man embracing, the man kissing the woman, a field behing them. It is an illustration representing the poem "Coming Thro' The Rye" by Robert Burns (1759-1796), composed 1796.

Gallery in Museum of Capitol, Rome

Lantern slide, glass B&W slide in wood frame. Image is framed in black and gold. Handwritten in black on sticker on glass "Gallery in Muesum of Capitol, Rome," and again on a sticker on wood frame "Gallery in Capitol Rome Italy." Image of a hallway with busts and statues lining it. Great ceilings with arches, window at far end. Research lead to the Capitoline Museums on Capitol Hill in Rome, Italy, but unsure if Capitol Museum is the same as Capitoline Museum.

Dresden Museum, Germany

Lantern slide, glass B&W slide in wood frame. Image framed in black. Handwritten on sticker on glass "6326 The Museum Dresde." Sticker of a Y on wood frame. Image of the facade of a building with arches and a dome. Research into Dresden museums showed that it resembled the facade of the Old Masters Picture Gallery, state art museum located in the Semper wing of the Zwinger Palace.

Baptistery of St. John, Pisa

McAllister, Manuf'g Optician, 49 Nassau Street." Image of the baptistery of the Cathedral of Pisa in Italy. It is round domed building, very ornately decorated. It is located in the Piazza dei Miracoli, near the Cathedral and the leaning Tower.

St Giles-without-Cripplegate Church, London

Lantern slide, glass B&W slide in wood frame. Image framed in black, and shaped like an circle. Y sticker on wood frame. Image of the interior of St Giles-without-Cripplegate Anglican church in London, England. It shows the tombs of Ben Johson, Edmond Spencer, John Milton and Samuel Butler. When the church was built it stood without (outside) the city wall, near the Cripplegate. The church is dedicated to St Giles, patron saint of beggars and cripples. It is one of the few medieval churches left in the City of London, having survived the Great Fire of 1666.

The mountain lies between the regions of Aosta Valley, Italy, and Haute-Savoie, France.

Image of an obelisk (with Egyptian Hieroglyphs on it) in centre frame, with two men standing in front and beside it. Looks like some houses have been drawn in and some foliage too. Very simple image.

Looks to be the start of the bridge, big covered archway. In BLC (white sticker facing you), you can see the ghost of people walking. Cannot find where bridge is, as not sure to the correct spelling of its name.

Bacharach, Germany

Image of the town of Bacharach, named for Bacchus, the ancient Roman god of wine, a medieval walled town only meters from the river's banks. The Rhine river once splashed up against the town's walls, but a landfill has been added to accommodate a road, train tracks and boat docks. In the image you can see the river, the spire of a church and rooftopes.

The Amazon, Berlin

Handwritten in ink on wood frame "Amazon" the rest of the sticker has come off. Image is of an equestrian statue outside a building with columns. The statue is of a naked woman, holding a spear, sitting on a horse rearing up, with a lion latched to its throat. Cannot figure out which museum it's in front of in Berlin, Germany. Please note that the wood frame is a thicker cut than the others, and not a straight cut.

Devil's Bridge

Lantern slide, glass B&W slide in wood frame. Image framed in black and gold. Sticker on glass handwritten in pencil "Devils Bridge" and perhaps the word "Switzerland." In print "E. & H. T. Anthony & Co. New York." Image of two bridges spanning a river, in a canyon. Research showed that it is the Devil's bridge of St. Gotthard's Pass in Switzerland. It is recorded that the first bridge was destroyed by a flood in 1888, and the second bridge was built in 1826 and third one in 1958. This image shows two bridges, the original and the second which is why the slide is date ca. 1826-1888.
