Of interest is Orson Wells report of a lesser known late 19th century author who wrote a fictional story of a ship named Titan that perished one starry April night by colliding with an iceberg; a story that foreshadows that of the Titanic. This 1980 expedition to the Titanic is the first of two, the second is: Titanic 1981, where the team has plans to take submarine dive down to the Titanic, if it can be located.

The news features, designed for the press, cover various aspects of the movie like: how the Titanic was discovered, the technology involved in diving to the titanic, items recovered from the wreckage, accounts of survivors, and how the recent discoveries have changed the story of why the great ship went sunk.

The film is raw footage from a dive using MIR1 and MIR2 to the Titanic wreckage. The film begins with a view of the bow exterior of the Titanic lit by MIR2 light. Content includes railing on the bow, starboard, and port side, collapsed decks, capstan, and steering stand. The steering stand is filmed from various camera angles and with white and yellow lights.

The film is a documentary account of the preparation and descent of the Russian submersibles MIR 1 and MIR 2 into the depths of the Titanic. Hosted by Walter Cronkite. The film begins with a merger of underwater technology between North Americans and Russians, a technology pioneered by the Russians. Following this, a team of researchers, explorers, photographers, filmmakers and scientists board the Russian ship Akademik Keldysh on route to explore the Titanic. Two submersibles are launched on a 24-hour day schedule and the images recorded are extraordinary. The film then focuese on the treasures found in the deep; ceramics, coins, an unopened safe, as well as parts of the ship that were at this time previously unexplored and provide clues to the sinking of this massive ship.

The topic of interviews is the expedition to the Breadalbane shipwreck on the ocean floor of the Northwest Passage. The film is an episode of "Walter Cronkite's Universe". Cronkite joins a team in the Alvin (a Deep Submergence Vehicle) to the ocean floor to view the thermal vents and aquatic life of the Oceanic Ridge. Crinkite interviews geologist Robert Ballard on the topography of the ridges. Footage is shown of Cronkite boarding ships, entering the Alvin and diving down to the ocean floor. A crate full of deep sea aquatic animals is raised to the ship deck where marine biologists study and experiment on the different animals.

Over 1,500 people perished. In 1985, the wreck of the Titanic was found on the ocean floor by a research team led by Robert Ballard and Jean Louis Michel. Dr. Joe MacInnis became the first Canadian to dive to the Titanic shortly afterwards. The footage in this collection features images of the ship obtained during a 1991 dive that formed the basis of the IMAX production Titanica. Recordings are of varying stages of production from raw footage to feature length films, and include programs from television and radio.

The news segment is of a CBS Morning News inteview of MacInnis conducted by Diane Sawyer. The interview discusses a diving team, lead by MacInnis, searching for and investigating the Breadalbane shipwreck. The Breadalbane sank in 1853 when it became trapped in ice in the Northwest Passage. It is considered the northern most shipwreck. During the expedition, MacInnis and his team photographs the wreckage, studies the biological and geological aspects of the ship. Footage include MacInnis and his team setting up camp in the Arctic, divers Phil Newton and Doug Osbourne in a "Wasp Suit" and images of the shipwreck.
