It is recorded that the first bridge was destroyed by a flood in 1888, and the second bridge was built in 1826 and third one in 1958. This image shows two bridges, the original and the second which is why the slide is date ca. 1826-1888.

When the church was built it stood without (outside) the city wall, near the Cripplegate. The church is dedicated to St Giles, patron saint of beggars and cripples. It is one of the few medieval churches left in the City of London, having survived the Great Fire of 1666.
